There's so much I like in Nitsche's work. The way he reminds me of post painterly abstraction but at the same time could easily be tied to the likes of Mondrian or Rothko. You dont need any knowledge or insight to enjoy his work though. When seen from afar they're awesome compositions of form and color. But when you're up close, you start seeing countless layers of color and lines, clearly showing the growing process and giving this vibrant feel to the paintings.

I was pleasantly surprised when I randomly walked into my school's gallery today. I just wanted to say hi to someone but then I saw 4 Nitsche's hanging on the wall. I was so baffled lol. I instantly went up close to check if they were originals and yes!
Boo for crappy cellphone cam, I know. I didnt have anything else with me.
[edit: oh wow they're pretty good actually. Guess it has to do with the lighting]

The expo actually opened today at 6pm so I went with some friends and we actually got to talk to him. Despite his really clean and ordered style he's very outgoing and cool.

5/5 on this day!
Oh yes I also got the highest grade of my year in designclass WOOT

I really like the first one. I know nothing about art history so I probably have a limited appreciation beyond "woah that looks cool." What are you studying / majoring in?

What's post painterly abstraction
"Oh no, we've drawn Judge Schneider" "Is that bad?" "Well, he's had it in for me ever since I kinda ran over his dog" "You did?" "Yeah...if you replace the word *kinda* with *repeatedly*...and the word *dog* with son"

The thing is that you need to learn to see an artwork as a world in itself. Its not the point of art to 'function' a certain way or to really communicate an obvious message. I believe that anyone can enjoy art, and even if its just 'whoah thats cool' its always good
and I study graphic design.

Post painterly abstraction was a term they used for a movement of painters in the 60s. They didnt really have a strict ideology but they all had one thing in common: form is absolute. Look up artists such as Frank Stella or Elsworth Kelly if you wanna see it. They wanted to get rid of the 50s and its abstract expressionism. The work was what it was without adding any superfluous value to it, which pretty much makes it the predecessor to minimalism (which was mainly sculptures in that era).

Post painterly abstraction is art that has to be flat, symmetrical, center-dominated, was inspired by Clement Greenberg when he wanted to transform abstract expressionism into something more modernist by answering the questions/challenges proposed by the European styles such as cubism, etc.

Wow, Being an aspiring artist, i have been put against contemporary art by my father (an artist who learn old school in Europe) but even then i can see the depth of the work and appreciate this artist's understanding of space and illusion. Although i prefer art that i has a lot of symbolism and a"realistic" image, i understand why people are interested in this, i still like it less than most other things though, because it seems very limited. (i am in 12 grade this year, going to art school).
