He also fails to deliver ammo to the MG, with the sniper. As well as fails to deliver ammo to the the MG and other soldier who is eventually stabbed, and shot to death. As well as not doing anything when the Captain is shot and another soldier is killed. That makes around 7 soldiers dead due to his cowardice.

He ruins the entire fucking movie in that one instant.

I had the same feelings, but I guess that's one reason the movie was good: not all soldiers have the courage we'd expect, and the movie showed that (then again, Upham was a cartographer, so...).

o.o why are you making this thread now? The movie has been out for a long time lol. He is the type not really made for war and in the end he finally gains courage. Not every soldier in the army is as bad ass as the captain was ;p

That guy at end of movie captures tons of Germans and Then he kills the one he let go. He's just a guy who was made into a soldier.

The Germans (according to the movie, not sure if this is true) believed that cowards were more costly to the army they were a part of when left alive, so killing him would be essentially helping the enemy.

I think it was more that he just didn't care. He came around the corner, saw the armed soldier who was having a breakdown, and just walked past to continue to bigger and better things.

The soldier who killed Mellish was the prisoner that Upham convinced the Cpt to not execute. The German was thankful for that. That is why the German said Upham's name at the end before being shot.

one of my favorite movies of all time.

That scene where he does nothing.. .then the German walks past him is one of the most intense scenes ever.

Perhaps second to a scene in Goodbye Solo.

Sometimes nothing happening is so much more dramatic than anything.
