I'm pretty sure if you poke around you can find roundtrip airfare from the US starting around $700. Or at least, I've found it that low... though it wasn't peak vacation time then.
I've also heard that it can be lower if you can figure out how to go through the Korean side, but I've not verified that myself. |

Most of the time, isn't 1 way more expensive? Check expedia, I've always had good luck there to Korea. Or hotwire.com
Buying tickets from the Korea end if your starting point is in the states is not gonna be that much cheaper.
