Yea, I've had p4 sitting around for the longest time, just had to beat p3 first. Actually I'm planning on saving p4 for way later, after I play The Answer, then final fantasy 10 and possibly x-2 even though I've heard nothing but semi-enthusiastic reviews at best about it.
The last parts of persona 3 was definitely well done with the perfect music and themes to wrap up the school year. Man, the way it all ended left me with that feeling of more to be desired, though  So sad, the way it ends... |

| Love this game. Persona 2 was better, and Persona 4 had better gameplay, but it was such a good time waster. (Social link storylines are way better in P3 though). I never bothered to complete the Answer though, that would have been another 50 hours or so on top of the 150 I had already spent on the game. |

persona 3 is fuckin awesome
i was initially drawn to it because the character cap themselves in the fucking skull when they cast spells
then i bought persona 4 because it came after persona 3 and, while not quite as pleased with the characters' method of summoning their persona, found it to be sufficiently macabre and a wholly worthwhile game |

Persona 2, omg Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment are still on my computer. I beat IS but got stuck at the part in EP where you gotta fight the golden clones of your old group. I'm trying to finish the answer just to fulfill the last parts of the game and finish the story for myself though.

I'm trying to wait on playing P4 as long as possible, hopefully until P5 comes out (I hope). I love to have a game to look forward to

I've never played any of the megaten series except for p2 and p3. I should try the others in the series, but I don't even know what platforms they're on or if they're dubbed/subbed.
P.S. Persona 3 portable is coming out for the PSP with an option to play a female lead.

| I sadly played Persona 4 first, and while I loved what I played of 3, it was just so much harder to get into with the combat system. It's just not the same without full control of your party. |

In persona 3 portable, they're allowing you to fully control your party, which people say may make it easier. They're making 5 difficulty levels to make up for that, though. |

| In all fairness, difficulty derived from stupid decisions you had little direct control over, isn't a difficulty I want any part of. Require more grinding, have more monsters that can kill you in a hit or two, or whatever you need to do to make the game difficult, but give me the control to counter it. |

| I didn't really mind the autonomous control settings for your allies. Then again, I played on easy mode and leveled up so much that the game didn't give me much trouble. I do hate the stupid decisions your allies make to seriously screw you over though, like Mitsuru using mind charge when a bufudyne could've easily finished off the enemy. The AI seems a little better for the Answer than it was in the Journey. |

Yea, with some changes along with it. First of all, you can choose the gender that you want to be, whether it's the original male character or a female lead. If you choose to play the girl, they switch a few things like instead of Elizabeth, there's a male attendant in the velvet room and you may be able to change some s.links (you get to date junpei I heard, rofl). Even without the girl lead, there are definitely a few changes in events, which makes sense to me because I doubt they'd simply stop at making an avatar change to a female gender role. Here's what wikipedia told me on p3 portable:
Persona 3 Portable
Persona 3 Portable, an enhanced remake of Persona 3 for the PlayStation Portable, has been announced by Atlus for release in Japan on November 1, 2009; a Western release of the game has not yet been announced.[3] The announcement in Famitsu revealed that the player will have the option to play as a female character. This selection will alter some aspects of the story: the first Persona gained by the Protagonist, Orpheus, will have a different appearance; Igor's assistant in the Velvet Room, Elizabeth, will be replaced with a male equivalent named Theodore.[83] The gender choice will also alter some aspects of the Social Link stories. In addition to the new playable character, there will be five difficulty levels to select from. The port will include only the original game's story (The Journey from Persona 3). However, there will be some changes made to the plot, regardless of character choice.[3]

P3Fes was easily the RPG I spent the most time on, and that's not counting the time I spent playing The Answer. Though honestly, most of the time I spend was in planning fusion routes because I want a certain persona to be absolutely perfect. I think the things that made really pulled me into the game was 1) The method of summoning 2) The music and 3) The cutscene where you summon a persona for the first time. After that, there was no way I wouldn't finish this game.
I transferred data from my sister's P3 Vanilla save (she did about 75% of the story) to start P3Fes with, and when I finished the game, I had done almost everything there is: Maxed all but 2 social links, got every persona except the 2 link's final persona, nor the Orpheus Kai, finished the Monad dungeon (Did not fight the secret boss though since this was technically a first play-through), etc etc. I think I got every katana except the Monad one. Not without lack of trying though...
Interesting this post was made just after P3P came out. I just started playing that now, and chose the female protagonist right away. I haven't gotten too far yet, but anyone that's been griping about the gameplay in P3Fes can rest assure that P3P is using the battle system from P4. Not having to watch your allies act stupidly anymore is definitely one of the best things you can ask for (eg Yukari healing you instead of removing your poison. Every turn). Unfortunately, this means no more infinite loop knockdown to ez mode bosses like the reaper anymore I'm hoping this also means ma- skills can still give me a 'once more' even if I miss an enemy, like in P4. Wouldn't know, haven't gotten one yet. Oh yeah, and returning to the main floor in Tartarus no longer full heals you, although you can pay money to heal at the save clock.
So far, from playing as the female protagonist, I've got a lot of new music. I played both P3 and P4 and loved the music in both, and P3P is no different. I assume the new music is only if you chose the female protagonist though. Don't know if I'm the only one waiting for the soundtrack to come out.
You can also choose which assistant you want at the Velvet room. Even though I adore Elizabeth, I went with Theodore. I can just imagine his position as the youngest out of the 3 siblings, so my first impression is to feel a bit of sympathy for him.
Oh yeah, as far as gameplay goes, the on-screen cursor thing isn't as bad as it sounds. The maps are still the same, but have turned 2D, but it really isn't a difference from being able to walk around in a 3D map. If anything, it's much faster this way to get around. The only thing I miss is not being able to wait until the protagonist stuffs his hands in his pocket, then start running around like that. For some reason, that always gave me a chuckle. Tartarus (and I assume full moon missions) are still the same as in P3Fes and doesn't use an on-screen cursor. However, I noticed opening the menu and closing it no longer makes shadows instantly turn around (Which I abused very much in P3Fes)
So yeah, I spent way too much time on P3Fes, and I'm probably going to do the same on P3P, heh.
Oh yeah, I forgot to ask, for anyone that's played, what did you name your protagonist? I always went with the one given in the manga (for both P3 and P4), since I totally lack an imagination but of course the female protagonist doesn't exist in the manga. She was given like 2 names from various sources, but they sounded so cheezy I decided I may as well put something together randomly on my own.Last edit: 2009-11-05 07:53:10 |
