Hey TL, it's the time of year! I'm usually so good with Christmas gifts, but now that I live away from home I'm at a loss for ideas, can you help me out?!
My Brother - 21 years old, typical university student, likes classic RPGs and reading. Gift ideas that I have - A pea coat, and a book. I want to get him a hardcover fantasy book (first of a series), but I don't want to give him Circle of Time or Fire and Ice. Preferably an artsy fantasy book. Last year - Got him some nice clothes and a hardcover nice version of Alice in Wonderland.
My Mom - 50 years old, gamer mom. Plays WoW, and loves horses. Doesn't want anything expensive, prefers sentimental gifts. Gift ideas that I have - I really have no idea, I'm thinking about something horse related, but I don't know what! Last Year - I got her a stuffed animal that looked like her pet in WoW, along with a nice card full of WoW references.
My Dad - 52 years old, gamer dad. Played FFXI but now plays WoW. Loves gadgets that tell him information, also loves sail boats and hiking. Gift ideas that I have - Probably another hiking book and some kind of gadget, don't know what yet though. Last Year - Got him a hiking book (wrote FFXI references on every page =P), as well as a skiing gadget that gives altitude, longitude, latitude, speed ect.

| Not sure about the parents, but I got a book for your brother: The Name of the Wind. Absolutely fantastic book, award winning even. It's the first in a series, next book coming out in March 2011. |
| | Do an arranged marriage if she's not completely minging, and don't worry about dancing, get a go-kart, cheers. |

u should get him a fleshlight. but dont just buy him 1, thats very impersonal. make ur own fleshlight 4 him. first, get 100g of starch, add 200g of water. mix and microwave for 1 minute. after its solid, poke a small hole in the center and microwave another 30 seconds. then, estimate his dick size. if ur not sure, try "accidentally" walking in on him in the shower or checking his computer for naked photos. if ur not sure tighter is better, dont want it to be 2 loose. then refrigerate the custom fleshlight for about 1 hr, then remove it and its ready. if u want 2 include a card and maybe a flash drive with some porn on it, that would be cool also.

u can also get him a fleshlight. see above for instructions on how 2 make one.

hm. probably can't get her a fleshlight. can't think of anything right now, maybe listen 2 other people for gift suggestions 4 her.

For your brother: Get him "The War of the Flowers" by Tad Williams. Fantasy/SciFi-hybrid. It's a single book, though, not the starter of the series. Alternatively (and also by Tad Williams) the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series (3 books in total).
For your mom: If she's into sentimental gifts and plays WoW, you could get here something from the WoW shop, i.e. an ingame pet or mount. Or a WoW 2011 calendar.
For your dad: In case he owns an Iphone, there's a case that makes it sailing-proof. Magellan-Toughcase. I'm pretty sure there are similar things for other phone types, and if he's outdoors often, it might come in handy.

| Thanks for the ideas guys! I'll have to pick from the book recommendations, and I completely forgot about the WoW ingame-pet/plushie combinations on the blizzard store, great ideas! And baller, your posts alone are enough for my personal Christmas gift <3 |

For your brother: If you are looking for an artsy cover on a pretty decent fantasy book, I suggest you get this volume of The Fionavar Tapestry. It is a good read and looks great on a bookself for a reasonable price.

For your mom, the games are just an easy way out. Get your family's digital photos for the last year, buy a multiphoto picture frame, and frame the best family shots of the year. It is always a winner.

Like this, but your family.
For your dad, he sounds like a hobbyist, but don't paint him into a corner with the games/hiking. Expand his horizons. If he drinks, I suggest a home brew kit for either beer or wine. It is cheap, a lot of fun to get in to, and may pay dividends down the road for some bonding moments on the front porch. Check out this link for ideas on what a good starter kit looks like.
The first and third can be done online. The second is a bit harder, but it is your mom, so sack up. Hope this helps Last edit: 2010-12-02 21:57:02 |

Gamer parents OMG Jealousy MAXIMIZED
You know my parents always thought video gaming was the root of all evil in the world? lol (and they're Korean)
Anyhow, unless you're going to gift your family something specifically game-related, some general good ideas are:
- Dad: Swiss Army Knife (as smileyyy suggested), Compass (none of those crappy 5-dollar ones, the ones that have some CLASS), Watch (again... go for higher end, some look awesome), Fountain Pen (some dads can never have enough of these), or electronic gadgets in general (what kOre suggested)
- Mom: Pouches (brand maker), Bags (brand maker), Purses (brand maker) -> these three can't go wrong as long as you pick anything equal to or above Coach... other than those, I'm not sure. I've sometimes went for cosmetics (back in high school living together with parents) based on which one was emptying in my mom's cosmetics collection. Cookery and China Sets aren't bad either, but I found it more difficult to choose which ones are good for those categories.
- Brother: looks like you're set on the book.
Happy holidays~ |
