On the sidebar I read: "Dreading impo" tence.
Ahem.
It's kind of like a test. It's a bit to late to get more prepared now, so the best thing you can do is make sure you get enough rest, eat a good breakfast, dress properly, etc. These things will maximize your chances of success. Also remember that freaking out now is not going to help you any, so might as well not do it. Different people have different ways of coping with stress and jitters before big tests, competitions, speeches, etc. If you don't have one, find a song, or activity that helps you relax. I tend to play the piano myself to soothe my nerves. |

As a church minister, you should be more than comfortable dealing with people. So why the lack of confidence in this situation?

Everybody's always nervous pre-interview. Past the first few minutes or so you'll forget about all these "concerns."
Just common knowledge. |

| Best thing would be to go with the mindset that you're going to do fine. If you believe you're going to do fine and everything should flow pretty well which is the best thing for an interview. |

Like kOre said, it sounds odd, but if you go into the interview with a larger ego than you normally have, you'll come off as way mote confident. You have to pretend that you are positive that you really believe in what you are saying. If you come off as meek or unsure, you won't leave as good of a memory with your interviewer.
I'm guessing that you'll be asked some philosophical or difficult questions and you should be completely honest. Tell the truth no matter what, even if you think the truth reflects poorly on you because unless you have committed some kind of felony, your interviewer will respect you for being honest. Basically, tell the truth, sound confident even when you aren't and believe that you really do deserve this job. |

I dunno if it being a church minister interview has its own little quirks ... maybe you should be asking other people who have went through this interview process and are working in the job that you want?
For general work interviews, from personal experience I think the 3 most important things you need to demonstrate to the interviewer is: 1 - Can you do the job 2 - Do you want to do the job 3 - Are you a good fit with the team/culture
And then there are the other 3 golden rules that I've found to be very true in interviewing: 1 - Never talk more than the interviewer (so key for myself, since I love to talk) 2 - Always overprepare 3 - If I don't have enough time to prepare, prioritize what I want to overprepare in
But like I said at the beginning, you really should be asking people who have experience in the interviews that you're going to be having. I'm sure there are a lot of unique aspects to a church minister interview.
And lastly, pray :D lots! |

It sounds like to me that you are worried about giving the exact answer they are looking for. I think you should just concentrate on giving the exact answer you want to give and deliver that answer with confidence. It seems like showing conviction and confidence will take you farther than trying to figure out on the fly what you think they want to hear, especially for the type of job you are going for. I've never interviewed for something like what you are going into though, so take that for what you will.
Either way, best of luck man! |

| just be really religious and bible-grasping. Bring a bible with you and when you come across a hard question, just start talking, open the bible like you know where to find the answer, sort of look down at the bible, continue talking, and say something about jesus and god. I'm sure you could get any job you wanted at a church like that. |

"I took classes in public speaking in college and a few more during my corporate days. That training was marginally useful for learning how to mask nervousness in public. Then I took the Dale Carnegie course. It was life-changing. The Dale Carnegie method ignores speaking technique entirely and trains you instead to enjoy the experience of speaking to a crowd. Once you become relaxed in front of people, technique comes automatically. Over the years, I've given speeches to hundreds of audiences and enjoyed every minute on stage. But this isn't a plug for Dale Carnegie. The point is that people can be trained to replace fear and shyness with enthusiasm. Every entrepreneur can use that skill."

Not my personal account of public speaking, of course, but I have found through my collegiate years that the technique described is useful and effective. |
