I don't think plateau is the right choice of words. You've just had some bad luck / played bad most likely. If you're in platinum then the only way you are at a plateau is if you genuinely suck balls at rts.
Just either 1) keep playing 2) do customs to practice or 3) take a short break
Practice will help you improve though =) |

That is some good advice my friend. Might just have some fun in 2v2's and work on my builds and timing perfection. Gotta always work on that macro :D
Thanks man. |

Practice more than study. At that level you can brute force games with poor strategy as long as you have good mechanics. So as long as you keep playing games and put a large emphasis on mechanics you'll be fine.
When I hit a wall of sorts in my practicing, I usually either: a) Play more games (works well) b) Play way less games, or play fun games like customs or team matches (not the best plan ) |

you just keep practicing when you plateau. I read somewhere(probably in Infinite Jest, come to think of it) that skill comes along as a series of plateaus anyway. If you're getting good at something you have to be content to make seemingly no progress for long periods of time.
Basically your procedure for getting better(constantly practicing standard play, watching replays especially those of pros and your own, studying vods, in that order) doesn't change at all.Last edit: 2011-04-28 12:32:38 |

Im at the same spot you're at. I feel like I've plateu'ed with my timings. Im taking a break by playing some team fortress 2 and watching starcraft instead of playing. Just got to take a break to take the pressure off myself |

Hmm, platinum... No offense, but at that level I could win 100% of the time with just good macro and timely bunker or two. I hope you are not paying for the coaching, because there is nothing he can do unless you decided to work on your macro yourself.
So, you want to get masters? Here are some tips:
Macro -make constant scv's -stay under 500 for first 11 minutes, afterwards, move that goal to stay under 1,000 (this is very lenient, but is rarely broken by masters players.) (except zergs)
Seems obvious right? Make scv's and make units? Well, to be 100% honest you wouldn't be plat if you did just this.
Micro: -practice hotkeys (i do 5= cc 1234= units 6=barracks) -practice f2f3f4 (normally f5f6f7) This is a minor deal but you can set screen locations using the F keys. -practice unit control (very simple, but needed, micro, such as marauder kiting zealots)
Decision making: -know what counters what and how much it takes to counter it. (void ray in your base? know 4 marines and a viking is cheapest solution.) -understand what you scout. (I see two fast gas from protoss. So: DT's or voidray? 1 turret at my ramp counters/stalls them both for when i get my viking out) -Reacting to what you scout (I've got to be honest, sometimes what seems to be the right answer isn't, this is easily solved by asking a higher player or your own experience)
Ok, well that is a long post. But seriously, stop the coaching. I will answer any questions you have and I will watch replays if you want to send them to me.

Rank if you care (I don't plateau, I just dont play enough games to reflect my skill in my rank.): http://sc2ranks.com/team/3806342 |
