Last week I was laddering quite a bit. And to be honest, It was making me very mad because I was losing quite a bit. My stats were something like a 1:2 ratio, and I dropped from 1650 points down to something like 1511. It really hurt me to feel like I was losing to everything possible..
Part of me wanted to say "Fuck this game, I'm wasting my time"
I'm sure you've all been there..
However, I took a few days off to get my head straight (I went to a "hippie" festival and camped out for the weekend), and once I got back I reluctantly started laddering again.
To my surprise, I was now playing much more solid and felt more confident, and thus my stats were showing it. Of my last 30ish games, I am 24-5....with a 16 win-streak in there as well.
I went from those 1511 points, all the way to 1800 points in a matter of a couple days ( this is after ladder lock, so no bonus pool)...
I am not trying to brag about anything, but I want to put this out there to encourage everyone who thinks they are worthless or are terrible (like I did) to keep trying. If you learn from your mistakes and take your losses for what they are, you will be surprised where you can go.
Don't give up.

Ignore the obvious troll.
Ask yourself what your goals are, where do you aim to get in say 5 months. That's your leading guideline. I am raging quite often when I lose, because 99% of the time it is my own fault. But I got a goal to reach and no matter what I will get there.

^This. If you really feel like quitting, no one is stopping you. Personally, I wouldn't. Hell I went from high C- back to D+ in a week a couple years ago (4-17 record) and I kept playing. |

| I'm glad you pushed through your losing streak and are now playing at a higher level. But I think it's a really dangerous sign that you are getting "very mad" because of losing. Maybe I'm totally off here, but you should not be playing this game to "be good". You should be playing this game because you love the thrill and intensity that only a badass RTS can give you! Unless you are a freak exception, there are always going to be plenty of players who will consistently beat you. I'm sure with work you can narrow that number down further and further. But who the fuck cares if you don't ENJOY that work? Because it's going to be W-O-R-K. Anyways, I wish you the best and greatest happiness in your goals! |
| | To say that I'm missing the point, you would first have to show that such work can have a point. |

| I always go through losing streaks ( highest: 17 losses in a row), but I never give up. I usually take long breaks ( 1-2 weeks sometimes ) just to cool down and get rid of the rage and get some daylight, but I never surrender. Last edit: 2011-07-09 00:41:04 |

| I have a friend who plays with us, he gets roll by us every day, he would lose like 10 games in a row day after day. We can feel his depression building up just like you are right now, but once in a while he manage to take one game from one of us, and he would light up with happiness that puts a smile on all of us. The harder you fail the better you are rewarded, this is the nature of the game. |

| I think I'm going to save this so I can link it to posts in the future where people complain about losing and not having fun with the game. Thanks! |

Haha.
I'm glad you recovered from your losing streak and are kicking ass on the Ladder right now. I will remind myself of this story whenever I start losing badly. |
