I quit a few months before Cataclysm was released and it's been the best decision I've ever made. Had a lot of fun playing WoW for nearly 4 years but in truth..it's a big waste of time.
I had a lvl 80 gnome rogue and I quit, because I didn't like the amount of time I had to commit to the game without getting anything back from it. Raids always took my nights from 8pm ->. I played arena with my brother, but that got frustrating pretty soon as there's only so far you can get with boomkin/rogue. We still did get close to 2k in tbc. I can't remember my rating in WotlK.
I have tons of funny stories most of which happened while levelling. My brother and a friend of mine decided to go kill horde players when we were level 20ish. Pretty fun times at barrens.
One thing I hated about WoW was my worst posible loot luck. I played TBC from day one and killed gruul at least 50 times, during which I lost DST about 25 times to pretty much every physical dmg class. Don't even get me started on BT.
The thing I hated most about raiding was that like 5 people carried the whole guild. Whenever we had to kill a boss which required everyone not being clinically retarded (I'm looking at you Archimonde), included about 4 hours of wiping. These people wouldn't even listen to any advice, our rogue class leader was pretty much the same. Everytime I tried to tell him how to max his dps (it was pretty bad), he just ignored me and kept on sucking.
I should've probably left Vashj way earlier, that server had like one good alliance guild and it was full all the time. My experiences would've probably been more enjoyable.
WoW is a great social game, I've actually met a lot of great gamers and people off of WoW.. You would be surprised how many top level SC2 players came from WoW, however it is a huge time sink and I don't recommend to competitive gamers if they don't want to enjoy the social parts of it.

Jesus that thread made me physically sick. I don't want to put how revolted by these people I really am since it would invoke the banhammer.
It definitely made me angry, I was going really mad at first but then... I realized that it was actually sad. Those people don't believe in e-sports. Can you imagine such a life? Very sad.

And I thought people were joking when they said e-sports is starting to feel like a religion.

Ah WoW, I played since mid-BC, on Bloodhoof EU over multiple horde alts. My favourite period in the game was probably around relentless season near the end of WotLK. I was a bit of a bg hero, as I loved playing a fire Mage, as in I would log in, and farm bgs and Wintergrasp all night. I'd like to think I was known as one of the best pvp fire mages on my server, and could go toe to toe with most other players, although maybe that's my ego speaking . I had a rival who would offspec fire when he wasn't frost, and was really good at it. I on the other hand was solely fire for 95% of the time. As it wasn't an arena-viable spec though, I didn't get to do much arena, but did hit 1800 in 2s with a ret friend in the Wrathful season.
I really enjoyed Cata, I probably had the most fun levelling a goblin shaman, although transferred it over to alliance to do 2s with a friend. Race changed my Mage to goblin instead because I missed the little green guys.
It was because of WoW I started playing Starcraft and I made some great friends playing. I don't log on much anymore, but haven't completely quit. But as they say, you never quit WoW, only take extended breaks

Not sure why that thread made you or anyone sick. A lot of people just don't get Starcraft and what makes it popular. I wouldn't take it as a personal offense when that minority voices their opinion.
Edit: Also:
I'm the tiny dwarf with the X over his head. I can't believe that was three years ago, jeeze.

Best time waster ever. 400+ days since launch. Warlock all the way. Quite fun, and still haven't found another MMO that is better. It's just too well refined. I'm currently playing Rift and bloody hell you can't see mobs properly, as a tank that sucks; grey mobs can easily dismount you, drink every other mob (imagine warrior leveling before they added the heal abilities). Not to mention once you have aggro you can go afk as a tank. Star Trek online, there's no group content really, fun game otherwise and great PvP; but logging in each day to just do dailies to get BiS gear is not my idea of fun.
Still, when the job goes to 12-16h/day it's a bit hard to keep having fun in a top 100 guild. Just giving up too many other things (like food). But once job clears up, break over; you never quit WoW :D
Another thing for the PvE players, once you go hardcore you can never go back to casual play. It's just impossible to imagine having to spend the entire life of an instance raiding 5-6 days a week like most casual-ish guilds. Just burn hard and fast then 1 night of farming, much more relaxing.

I beat the game, got bored and cheated, and got banned. Then I beat it again and cashed out. Then I beat it again, "leveled" archaeology and got banned.
There's my story.

you can't really expect the average WoW player to "get" SC2. Most WoW players aren't competitive with other players at all, what's fun for them is progression (measured in big numbers on equipment). there's none of that in SC2, only skill progression
which is much more rewarding, but those poor unenlightened souls won't ever get it
The most fun I ever had in WoW was arena in BC. The game is now ruined for me because nothing has ever measured up to running the druid/warrior + druid/warlock gauntlet to the top of the 2v2 ladder as shaman/warrior
I still play a little bit, leveling up another character that I'm sure i'll abandon once it hits max level, but getting there through BGs and dungeons is fun.
