I've decided to put some of my photos up for criticism and enjoyment. These are from December 2010 through spring 2011. All have been down-sized for easier browsing. Details and a link to the full-size image are included in spoilers.

My camera is a D90 and the lenses are 35mm f/1.8 and 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6.
Any comments and suggestions are welcome!

Are those your dogs? How cute!

The white balance of the first photo is a bit uncomfortable. A snowy and wintry scene is usually portrayed much colder in colour temperature. If the warm colours were intentional, IMO it makes the photo look like it's taken with a point-and-shoot =/

I like the third and last photos!
Same difference is not an oxymoron!

Thanks, guys! The dogs aren't mine, they're of a friend of my brothers'.

I didn't know much about white balance when I took the first pic, but I think it's close to what I could see with the naked eye; nightlights around here really are that yellow as far as I can tell. I tried to tweak the colors like you suggest, but I didn't like the result. Please feel free to change it if you think it would look better otherwise and post the result, I'd appreciate the effort.

Wow the place you stay is beautiful!

What are the streaks of lights on the road in the first pic?

Those are the cars' headlights as they appear after a 30 second exposure. Wikipedia has a good short article on the technique: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long-exposure_photography

The fist pic is taken in Timisoara; I live in Bucharest and that is where the others were taken. The last picture is in a mental hospital in Bucharest.

Haha, saw the Dacia and the tram lines in the foreground and my first thought Romania. Really nice.

Love the first picture, it's absolutely gorgeous and nice!
What's the aperture for that? (I forget my terminology, so I guess I meant, what speed is the first picture and over what period of time?)

Great first pic. The last one I'm not sure what it actually is....

edit: And that is a Siberian husky I believe yes?

Nice jobs on the photos, looks gorgeous in Romania! Really like that large clock in that garden looking shot, pretty flowers in that one as well. Well done.

I'm really liking the second one; that one has potential to be classic; it is a pity that the dog is cut off slightly on the right.

In general, these are fine solid photos. I would certainly considering some PP work to make the colors/tonality stand out a little more though. I also feel that you can slightly more aggressive with sharpening. (Sharpening for web viewing that is)

I used a small aperture of f/22 to have depth of field and to allow a long exposure of 30 seconds. The iso is the lowest for the camera, 200. All the details are included in the spoiler beneath the picture.

It's just a depressing wall. I think the dog is a Siberian husky but I'm not an expert.

For the second picture, try going to the "full image" link in the spoiler. The thumbnail seems a bit cropped, sorry I didn't notice the image host does that.

I'm a beginner with post-processing and felt PP was a bit too much for me, so I only used Picasa, but I'm afraid of going overboad since I don't know what I'm doing. :-) I'll get to learning some PP down the road, but for now the pleasure of doing all I can do with the camera is enough for me.

Thank you for all the positive comments!

Considering these have minimal PP (if any), then you have A LOT of potential. I agree. It is more important to try to get it right on the camera.

I like them. The one with the two dogs needs to be exposed a little higher I think- you're supposed to overexpose snow until its bright white- maybe its my monitor though. I still like it though.
