OK, so I've seen all these threads about the drink Milkis and how awesome it is etc.etc. (the person is awesome too ofc). So I figured that I'd try to acquire some Milkis, but I live in Stockholm and after some searching I discovered that there is apparently only 1 fucking korean food store in Stockholm?! WTF IS GOING ON WHY DO KOREANS HATE STOCKHOLM?
Well I went to the store and it's called "Korean Food" (Luntmakargatan if any swedes are wondering)
Went in and the first thing I saw was a mountain of shin ramyun (ramyun = ramen I guess?) and other stuff like chili paste, soy sauce, kimchi and kimbap (which is like sushi but it's not?). I asked the lady at the register about milkis and she had no idea what I was talking about.
Her Swedish was terrible, I kept saying milkis over and over while doing a drinking motion hoping she would understand. Finally she said "Ah, OK!" and disappeared for a few minutes. I thought I had succeeded and I was thinking about how awesome it would be to drink some milkis. However, when she returned she presented me a glass of milk with ice?
It took me a good minute to understand wtf was going on and then I realized. "Milk", the english word and "is", the swedish word for ice. She somehow made the connection that by milkis I meant milk and ice.
I was facepalming so fucking hard, how could someone even make that connection, why was she trying to sell me a glass of milk? I accepted defeat, bought some shin ramyun instead (pretty good) and left the store.
Came home, did more research and it turns out that some Japanese stores here have some Korean imported items. So I will go to some of those stores tomorrow and see what I can find.
Hope is fading

| Koreans pronounce Milkis as "Meel - Kee - Seu" (seu is the sound like soot). If you say it like that they will understand. |

No. It doesn't sound like 'milky'. It sounds like 'meelky'
Seu doesn't sound like soo. It sounds like 'soot' and rhymes with 'foot' and 'put'. If you know french, take 'le' and change it to an 's' sound -> 'se'
Meel (Rhymes with 'Feel') Key (Normal pronounciation) Seu (Rhymes with 'le' or the goo in good, foo in foot, pu in put, etc.)Last edit: 2011-08-23 01:43:17 |
