Funny thing about TeamLiquid, being a member grants you access to a wide range of worlds. Go to a live event, throw on a pony shirt, and then say hello to your fifty new friends. Notice someone lives in the same area as you, send a PM, and the next day you are having a beer. I've hosted people travelling through Japan that I've never met before, and in return crashed on couches belonging to a virtual handle. I worried that as TL grew at such an exponential rate, this camaraderie would disappear. However, I still get the feeling that people buy into the TL spirit even today.
All this is an elaborate way to say that, yet again, a happening from TL has affected my life. A while back a British guy I worked with, Andy, sent me an email out of the blue. I am friendly with Andy, but I don't see much of him outside our mandatory yearly seminar on teaching. Andy told me that he had recently found a new fitness blog and was hoping to get a consultation from the writer. Unfortunately, the guy was in high demand. One thing Andy knew from reading was that the writer was a big Starcraft fan. Looking for a hook, he asked if it would be ok to drop my name and talk a bit about TL, as a way to stand out. I said sure, and didn't think twice about it.
The blog, as it turns out, was Leangains, and the author Martin Berkhan was indeed a Starcraft fan who posts on TL. After completely forgetting the whole episode, Andy sent me another email a couple weeks ago saying the connection had worked out, and that he would be doing Japanese translations of some of the articles on his own site.
It was that at some point something in my brain switched. Before, I never considered going on a diet. The extent of any plan regarding what went in my mouth mostly consisted of "maybe I shouldn't drink so much beer this week", or, "an entire can of pringles might not be the best appetizer". However, once I read about Leangains, and especially once I saw my friend Andy doing some consulting, I decided to make a change.
I won't bore you with the details of the plan in this post. If you are interested in intermittent fasting and the Leangains guide, you can check it out here. In the next couple days I write another blog post about the first week which will go into more detail. For now though, it is just amazing to me that TL continues to shape and change my life, and the life of others.

Sacrilege! Banish such evil thoughts...
I am amazed by what TL can bring together. If there was a zombie apocalypse (almost gauranteed), I would want TL members in my survival gang. You guys are awesome!
Ps Because you know you want to...

I think its cuz TL gives you modesty. Unlike other gaming sites, most people come here to watch/talk about people who are a million times better than you at a game play it.
Also, most posts that are made on this site that would be trolled/flamed off usually make somewhat decent reading. |
| | Stop browsing and do whatever it is you're supposed to do. TL will still be here when you get back |

Ahh a Manifesto blog! My favourite. They're always so poetic and meaningful. It's easy to do one or the other but when they're combined it's always something special, thus I love mani blogs!
JW, Mani do you watch/play SCII?
+ Show Spoiler +or maybe League of Legends? |

Love it, and so true. At some point I would love to have a compilation of stories where people benefit from being TLers in real life like this one. |

What a beautiful blog^^
It's weird. I kind of went through my first year and a half at TL as pretty much a ghost. I knew that behind each handle there was a person (or in some cases, behind 15 handles there was a gg.nore), but TL remained, for the most part, separate from real life. Now, that's changing slowly. Connections are connections, regardless whether they're forged through a handshake or through a PM.
Best of luck with your diet Mani! |

Agreed, it's slowly but inevitably becoming a significant part of my real life as well. Crazy stuff.
