Games Suck Lately or am I just too picky?

Is it just me or are there like no good games out right now? There are a few games Im keeping my eye on for the horizon(D3, HOTS, SWTOR) and Ive slowly been updating my equipment to better suit my gaming needs(Gaming Rig which can ran any game on the market, HTPC, laptop for managing skype/vent/ims etc.) Im all set to play games and watch movies all day long, but I have nothing to play.... Nothing sounds interesting at all.

I play sc2 and dead island the most but even then its only for a few hours every day. Im nearing the end of my interest for a while in Dead Island because ive basically done everything you can and gotten to lvl 50 and made godly weapons and Im comfortable with my skill level in sc2 that I don't feel uncomfortable not practicing as much as possible. Im kind of interested in Mortal Kombat for PS3, but I know that if I buy it Ill only get a few days of enjoyment out of it, compared to my childhood where i literally would play the same game over and over grinding out all the secrets I could.

It just seems that the new games don't seem to keep my interest or really make me feel like playing through the game again to get all the secrets. Its just like I beat the game once and Im done, for Dead Island it was twice before I got bored with it and 1 play through doesn't take all too long, maybe 3 or 4 days at 2 or 3 hours each day. Where as I played golden eye for years before I switched to a PS2 and there were games I just played nonstop there too. But in the last 5 to 10 years games seemed to be rushed more, not as fleshed out, bug ridden, and half the features promised not in the final release or given "pending in a future patch" release dates. I guess I just have nostalgic glasses of the past and I am sad I sold all my games except OOC for my N64 and Im sad i sold my Super Street Fighter and SNES....

Sorry if this is incomprehensible, Im watching Korea WCG and its late and Ive been rearranging my little gaming area to more properly secure things.

Well for single player games, DE:HR and Bastian just released which have both received really good reviews. If you are anticipating D3 Bastian would be a great game to play in the mean time. There is always emulation of older consoles if you want to go that route.

I don't play much MP outside SC2 and LoL right now so I can't really recommend anything you would not have already heard of.

Honestly SWTOR really is looking worse and worse. Deus ex just came out and its pretty fun. Battlefield 3 looks like it will be awesome too. I think a lot of sweet games are coming out. Skyrim comes out soon too.

Your older than you were 10 years ago. I state the obvious I know but that's what it comes down to. Just like we could sit down for days on end playing the same game over and over, kids these days do the same with the games that we get bored with after only a few hours.

Also on your point about games these days being more bug riddled and less fleshed out, you should try playing some of those old games again. Or don't. Keep your memories of them intact.

No to be a hater but DE:HR is just doing the same thing for 30 hours, hide hide hide omfg I got caught /dead 9assuming you actually play on hard..) gets old quick.

SWTOR I have been in the beta since it started ad honestly I agree its gotten worse and worse. I actually don't even plan on buying it anymore..

Quality of games has for sure dropped however I have hopes that BF3 willl rekindle that spark I once had.

Yea, I would say this as well.

It was the same for me, even with the same games. For example, I could sit down and play smash bros melee for 10 hours straight if I was at someone's house, or even alone sometimes, but nowadays when I play that exact same game, I can barely go 1-2 hours. I think it's just we're getting a bit old to enjoy games for self fulfillment like before . However, playing competitively is still amazing, and I would guess that's where you'd have to try (maybe dota 2?).

Oh man SSB:M me and my friends would alwasy have sleepovers (haha and sounds weird saying it now) and play with 200 stock and let it go all night.

The only nostalgic game that I can still marathon like no other is LoZ: OoT. TO this very day I can bust out my N64 and play it start to finish with no break

I'm with you to be honest. I have about 9 games on this computer and I don't feel remotely interested in playing any of them.

TF2, SC2, some HoN if I really tried.

Just holding on until BF3 comes out.

Like music, there are 2 things which you have to consider before you do say that

We only remember the good games, not the terribles ones.
There is alot more games these days, and thus alot more crap.

The key is to look for indy games IMO.
I think that a lot of people that have been gaming for like 20+ years agree with you (I myself do).
But if you can overlook the big mainstream games, you can find AMAZING games, like Braid, Machinarium, Limbo, etc.

That kind of games have great artwork, are not "dumbed down" (they're challenging), and in adittion they're usually pretty cheap (MUCH cheaper than "big titles" like some Call of Duty or whatever)

Some other games I recommend are: Trine, World of Goo, Crayon Physics Deluxe.

Sounds like you missed a fundamental part of the game. It's all about choice, and you don't have to hide at all if you don't want to. You limited yourself. I hear a lot of people complain about "Oh, the game had way too much hacking" And I go "No... you chose to do a lot of hacking."

Deus Ex Human Revolution is probably the best the PC has to offer recently, OP. If we're talking about non-PC stuff, I just got Kirby Mass Attack for DS, and it's unbelievably fun.

I find that I get bored of games a lot faster than I used to. The only games that have continued to be fun for me throughout the years have been SCbw, sc2 and wow. Even old games that I used to love that I have on emulators tend to get boring really quickly. Recently it seems like I am unable to finish any games that I start. I stopped DA:O like one hour from the finish, I stopped playing chrono trigger about 30 minutes away from Lavos... It feels like there is something wrong with me. My expectations are just too high and while I am super interested when beginning a game, I just lose it even though I still know the games to be very good.

Maybe I've been spoiled, and it seems like whenever I die and have to go back to a save point some time back, it just kills all of my motivation. The only game that I've beat recently was Super Mario 64... but when I was younger, I'd beat the game and then make a new game just a couple of hours later...

Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey will remain fun forever however.

You're possibly growing out of video games . I did that. I still play some old games but new shit just doesn't interest me.

I guess Im just growing out of video games like a lot of people are saying...it makes me sad though, playing games use to be all I wanted to do, now I just sit around watching old shows on hulu/netflix and nostalgia critic....

well shit...even sc2 lately ive been more interested in watching then playing, and its been that way with BW for a long time too...

Oh well moving on I guess.

Doesn't sound weird at all, we did the same

Hm...not really. Why would you only remember the good games? It's often the case with personal memories but not with games.

Exactly, that is pretty much the only thing which keeps you interested...because of your opponents. Every game plays out in a different way, so it's something "new".

Thank the Wii console.

It showed that complex video games will never sell as well as "OMG LOOK IM DANCING ON THE SCREEN IN MY OWN HOUSE!!" games.

Appealing to the masses (the retarded masses, but the masses) is more lucrative than generating games for the hardcore game fans.

WoW sucks compared to vanilla, and every other MMo out atm is just a shittier version of WoW.

waiting on GW2.

Looked at the new StarWars mmo was going to play... until i realized there is no way in hell there will be fun PvP in that game..

honestly the last mmo i played and actually enjoyed was Warhammer online... too bad it was fucking terrible and not finished at release.. and they released at the same time as a WoW expansion = they killed their own chances at making something awsome.

But i loved Warhammer online.. the problem was soooooo much of it was dependent on huge numbers of players... which it now doesnt have thanks to its fail release.

It's not you and you're not growing out of anything, growing old or growing nostalgic as a lot of people would have you believe.

Most AAA titles nowadays are actually not very good and won't keep you entertained for very long, and it has nothing to do with your taste.

Just look out for indie games on Steam, it's definitely worth it and that's where all the talent is (at least in game design) nowadays anyway.

See this is why i've been going back to playing SNES legends like Chrono Trigger, I actually play most games for the storyline, right now, not appealing to me.

Very similar feelings here. I'll load up TF2 and after a couple hours (if that) I just don't feel like playing anymore. I don't think games are worse so much as the spark has just worn off for me. And more importantly 20yr old me enjoys very different things to 10yr old me.

Skyrim, D3, BF3 and GW2 are all looking very promising and I tend to enjoy sequels to games I loved rather than a brand new titles.
