So there have been a lot of complaints about LoL taking the main stage in the IPL. Basically, IGN is hoping that by showing the game at its best between its best players, it can pique enough interest from the larger SC2 fanbase to try out LoL.
Did it work?

(22) 28% I play LoL, and I don't think it should continue to be an E-sport (18) 23% I play LoL, and I want to see it on a big stage more often. (12) 15% I am now interested in checking out LoL (3) 4% I am actually more interested in LoL than Starcraft 2 now. Honest answers please!
Personally, I thought it was pretty terrible that they decided to merge LoL and SC2 on the same channel. LoL looks completely baffling to the casual viewer. I cannot for the life of me see how someone can become interested in a game like that from just looking at it being played. But that's just my opinion.

I don't get why people have LoL and SC2 hate. LoL doesn't care about SC2 and we shouldn't care. We should be respectful cause they are still pros TT.

I don't hate LoL, I just don't want to watch it during a Starcraft tournament just like I don't want to watch baseball in during March Madness. I think this whole eSports cross-over that we're seeing more and more often is just stupid.
More tournaments should be like MLG. They can have multiple games being played if they want to, but run them on separate streams with separate schedules ffs. |

I agree to some degree. SC2 is a hugely complex game. In order to understand all of the nuances you'd have to play for at least several months.
LoL is far MORE baffling than Starcraft 2 though. You can tell a casual viewer "Competitive Starcraft 2 is a game where two players harvest resources to construct armies with the end goal of destroying the other player". The casual viewer should then easily be able to see this unfold, and by looking at the amount of red/blue on the minimap, be able to guess at who is winning.
For LoL, you can tell the viewer "the goal is for one team to destroy the other's main building", but the progression of the game is so roundabout that you have no idea what is going on. The hundreds abilities and items of the game are also completely unintelligible for a casual viewer, while in Starcraft a viewer can look at a tank, or a blinking stalker, and pick up very quickly on what each unit is capable of. |

I like LoL, but I don't really care for it as an eSport. All the ARTS games are really hard to watch if you don't play them (actually the easiest to understand as a spectator that does not play is Dota2, but thats not out yet). Was a bad call to put it on the SC2 stream, it is kind of a bad call to support LoL as an eSport. Its got the fanbase to support one, but it doesn't take as much skill as any of its direct competitors in my opinion as someone who has played all of them.

I play League of Legends but I honestly can't watch it. It's 1- 1.5 hours a match and it has maybe MAYBE 10-15 exciting moments. It's pretty dreadful to watch much more fun to play.

LoL is actually a lot more boring to watch than HoN or DOTA. Just the way it is set up doesn't lend to the games to be particularly exciting.

I think your OP is kinda misinformed...LoL actually has a far larger player base than SC2 (its comparable to, and will probably exceed the WoW player base). What Riot is trying to do is increase LoL competitive exposure and give it "E-SPORTS" legitimacy. I'm not sure what the complaints are against, given that the two games are so dissimilar. IMO more competitive, potential e-sports type games can only be good for sc2 as it gives legitimacy to the entire progaming concept.

dota 2 should crush LoL once it comes out in the competitive scene. It's incredibly obvious to everyone, and everyone that plays LoL that dota 2 takes a lot more skill. Even if it does have a lot of casual fans the players just aren't as talented.

I played LoL/HoN/DotA, but it'll be difficult to have it as an esport simply because of the difficulty of having it as a spectator sport. It won't be as popular as something like SC2, simply because there are so many items and abilities you need to know beforehand to be able to enjoy it. Also, with 10 people running around the map, it's hard to keep track of all the action. MOBA games can be an esport, but it would simply be much more harder because of spectating difficulties.

I play it from time to time with friends but truthfully none of us think it's a very good spectator game. The IPL finals didn't really change that opinion.

I think that the casters made a mistake by continuing to cast the same way they had previously, ie assuming the audience all played the game. LoL is a game that you have to actually know something about in order to enjoy watching, so the lot of people who didn't know the game would obviously have gotten nothing from watching.

i think the difficulty in making LoL a credible esport is trying to balance the game between the constant 3 week new champion release cycle. also having a better (or dedicated) in game observer would probably help too, as often the observer for LoL misses a lot of action.
