Just quit my first job...

So when I was a junior in high school, I got a job serving food at a retirement home. I was a shy kid and honestly I only applied there because I knew a girl that worked there and thought she was cute. My first day was February 3rd, 2009... and as of today, I no longer work there. I recently applied at NetApp where I'll be working a lot more hours, even only as a part-time employee, and where I hopefully learn a lot in the field of computer science, which I've decided to really go into.

But man, I never expected it to be this hard. It's not so much the act of quitting and moving on to something new, putting in my two weeks was simple. But man do I hate goodbye's. And I worked there for three years, even though it's generally only a job for high schoolers I still worked there into my sophomore year of college. I ended up getting comfortable which I know is never a good thing in life, you should always be willing to push yourself to the next level. This sounds comical but it didn't really sit in until it was announced that I was quitting and everybody wanted hugs or handshakes... I seriously almost burst into tears lol. It kinda made me realize how I was at the top there and just how loved I was.

It's hard because of all the memories that are coming back to me. I've grown so much as a person the last three years... and some of that can be attributed to work. The first time I walked in that building to be trained, I saw a whole dining room full of people and just got scared and didn't know how it was gonna go. But the job really broke me out of my shy personality. Not to mention all the stuff I've gone through just in that time period such as multiple heartbreaks or bad situations. I've grown so much as a person these last few years. I still remember early in 2010 where I had to make multiple girl blogs on here because I had no idea how to deal with my problems haha . But through all of this, I've grown and still have a long ways to go... but it just feels hard to leave where you came from.

This isn't anything big for others who have done this before, but for this being my first job where I ended up staying much longer than expected... it's hard.

I am excited for my future though and I'm excited to get off to a new start at a new place. I'm going out of town this weekend to go to a basketball tournament, which will hopefully be a great way to get my mind off of things and allow me to relax a bit, and then starting on Monday I will be working for a completely new company, a new boss, in a completely new environment.

i got my first job right after high school and have been there for almost 5 years. I'll be quitting soon because I'll be going to grad school or working a career. When I first got my job, I was extremely shy just like you. It was to the point where I actually left my first college because I was so freaked out that a lot of my classes required me to work with a bunch of people I didn't know. My job was in retail sales and I purposely picked that job because it would teach me how to talk to people. It was a job where I HAD to talk and I was provided a formula for how to talk to people.

Now, I'm a social butterfly and my managers need to separate me from the other workers sometimes so I don't distract them o_O While I dont attribute all my growth to working there, it's what started it all. Now, when I go into the elevators at school, I make jokes with random people I don't know. Whereas, 4-5 years ago, I would get major anxiety before entering a room full of people I didnt know for an extra circular activity. I kid you not, after looking into that room and seeing all those people, I went to the bathroom and had to pump myself up to get the courage to go in.

My current/first job has been good to me for the most part. I got promoted less than a year and soon started making $10.71/hr which is amazing as a college student. I'll probably be a wreck when I have to leave my job.

Your first job, if you stick with it, helps you grow a lot because of the kind of interaction you get and the responsibility that comes with it. So here's to a good few years where you've grown and at hopefully at our next jobs, we'll grow even more

Such a nice fact that you enjoyed the place. That people around you enjoyed having you, that is a gift you should keep forever.

Yea, leaving a job where you've known people for a long time is tough. To me, the thought that I'm no longer going to be talking to certain people every day makes me kinda sad, although you can still keep in touch with some of them.

YOUR GIRL BLOGS? Did I comment? Whoa there I usually remember the GB writers but your name doesn't ring a bell. Maybe I just have bad memory~ Wahaha~

Anyways, I'd like to congratulate you for doing a wonderful job at your now-ex-job. I think it's very nice that you left on a very positive note, for a new exciting challenge.
