Day9s stream chat continuously got turned to subscribers only, disabling other users to talk. The reason was because people would do the !playlist troll, and i understand trying to eliminate spam. HOWEVER, there is already a spam blocker for that, which delays chat for 2minutes. I don't understand how Red Bull and other sponsors would allow something like this which can drive off people from the stream that they make money directly on.
Also, it is pretty lousy to basically portray an image of, "you guys can't talk, you can only watch and bring us money."
For the most part I have loved the RBB tournament so far, and i love Day9s streams, I however completely am against the moderators here. To some extent for a sponsored event like this, you can't allow random joe moderators to control a show.
And before people flame me for "siding with idiots and spammers" I'm not condoning it, and i fully believe in deleting the messages if it is a problem. But really, these weren't racial slurs or even bad language, and the chat wasn't hacked. Just mods personal views that cause them to ban what they don't like, vs what is appropriate.
TLDR(read edit 2): There is already an antispam throttle, by shutting down a chat it has now become 1 mod vs everyone in chat, since everyone in chat can only say 1 thing per 2 minutes. So if there's spam... its everyone talking... and the locked channel has now disallowed people just now joining from asking whats going.
Edit: Love you sean! I will still be watching dailies, i just hope that someone is talked to about this, and at the very least some sort of rules and policies are in place over what is bannable/chat frozenable/ etc for mods. And definitly for a sponsored mega event where sponsors may not like how their event is being broadcasted.
Edit2: There are clearly going to be(and are) a bunch of chat haters out there that are missing the point and just flaming the idea of a chat, and the people in them. Which isn't the point to this at all, as I don't chat really at all.
The point is... it is bad from a business stand point to do this, and it is disrespectful to viewers and sends an image that they don't care about the benefits and freedoms, and just want to rake in their money from the thousands of viewers.
With that I won't be responding to replies anymore, as I feel i have justified my points already in the current replies.
and if you think you can't talk in the chat with out it getting spammed off the screen, go to the other stream that isn't sub only, it is very readable with 10k+ viewers. It just sucks that both games aren't on a redbull stream and instead on personal streams. Last edit: 2012-05-27 10:58:42 |

| Cant speak for anyone else but I avoid chats on streams once 5k viewers or so hits, shit just gets dumb and its impossible to really comment or have convos with people even with "slow chat" enabled or whatever. |

I know what you guys mean about chats, but there was 1 time where i was wondering if sheth can directly effect the outcome of his group due to tiebreakers and him being eliminated, and couldn't ask.

I'm having fun with the tourney.
I have always disabled chat in games and on streams at every single oppertunity. I and disappointed in myself if I read more than 2 or 3 lines usually. It's utter trash. Let me see if I got this right: There's 1 mod in the RBB chat, and people are spamming stupid stuff like "!playlist"? And you think a 2-minute delay is going to stop spam at 10-20k+ viewers? Trust me, a 2-minute delay doesn't do anything then in helping against spam like that.
Thing is, to avoid being banned in chat you just have to use common sense. Don't be a trolling tool and don't post links to unrelated things. Don't spam, don't bait, don't hate. Subscribers-only is a nice tool to let people know that their trolling will not be tolerated. It's like taking a toy from a kid because he's beating a friend with it. |

btw: IT IS THE USERS FAULT. honestly the sub only was the only possibilty to stop the spam. he would have left the chat if everybody wouldn't have spammed: !playlist when a song came up , and thousands of idiots joined them even if they know it doesn't do anything |

| If there's one mod in there like KristofferAG said there is no way in hell that mod can keep control of the chat solo. I remember modding NASL season 1 (Pre sub only chat) took at least 3 or 4 mods every night because of all the trolls and spammers. It's completely appropriate for them to put it in followers only mode. |

| personally i just click the hide chat button on any stream i ever turn on and watch the show. i dont understand how people enjoy arguing and trolling eachother over stupid shit instead of watching the stream lol |
