Hello peeps . This is S2Glow , bringing you my update about what i am thinking right now.
last 2 day i have been to a marathon , for those who don't know what marathon is , it is a 42km which is equal to 26.09miles run , being a computer gamer for so long i have never been to a marathon so i wanted to try something fresh and i sign up for early bird which is 6month before the race start so that i can get cheaper price , it cost me 65 Singapore dollar though :D .
so before 1 month i started to train a little , i run about 25km for that 1month LOL , not even 42km yet so you know , i am not really prepared for it.
so at that actual day i reached that place , that marathon is called sundown marathon which means i start the race at 12.30am which is midnight. i am standing there with my friends warming up.
then i am at the starting line already! preparing to jog! btw i am kinda sporty type , i play basketball , soccer etc all kind of sport so i am not totally into gaming so i decide to join 42km instead of 21 or 10 because i think i can do it! so here is the story. As i run , the first 3km is a breeze , i feel nothing , just feel hot because singapore is a humid country , even at night is very hot lol. then as i start to reach 10km i am still feeling alright , my original plan was to hydrate myself @ 21km but @ 13km i am starting to feel dehydrated so i decide to drink 500ml of water straight and i continue to run , @ 17km i started to feel the pain in my knee and ankle so i stopped and the rain start to drizzle , this is the start of the *fun* part .
so at the next hydration station i drank 4 cup of 100PLUS and 1 cup of mineral drink and 1 banana. you can imagine how dehydrating it can be and after a short while the rain get heavier! and literally my earphone which i am using from xsplit 128000bitrate AAC quality become 41000 bitrate SPEEX quality. i was like wtf?!?!? the rain drench the cover of my earphone and i am hearing shit quality music T_T , my leg is very heavy because of the rain , so many water run into my shoe. the rain continue for the next 4 hour STRAIGHT and is heavy rain! the good part about this rain is the temperature instantly go down by a lot and theres lots of wind which is irony because i feel cold when i run and i constantly need to rub away those water in my face.. As i keep running my leg become VERY pain , is no joke i never feel those type of pain before and i wanted to put counter pain cream but i heard from people that the after effect is very bad so i decided not to put. around 25km i start to walk and jog because of my knee cap and ankle pain i stop about 3 times just to stretch my knee so that it wont feel pain.
as i reaching 30+ km a lot of people started to walk so am i because the pain is unbearable ! so i will be uploading my timing and how drench i am after the race pictures ! you can see that the ending i try to give a dumb face =P haha is in the spoiler + Show Spoiler +
so conclusion to my post is that if you're not a professional runner or whatever , PLEASE dont join marathon first , start with half marathon so that you will get the feel. currently i am suffering the after effect , i cant even walk properly , my ankle and knee is fucking hurt whenever i use them and i don't know how long it will take to heal :/ , i kinda regretted but no choice , i already run.
hopefully you enjoy this post ciaoz , going to stream BW later , HEHEHEH stay tune lol!

| Haha, if I recall correctly, don't you have to do a bit over a lap of the entirety of Singapore because the perimeter of the country (where you can run) is less than 42km? |

Congratz on getting to the finish line!
I ran the Rome marathon on march, first time for me as well, had a bit of problems with my knee and my final time was 5:51, half marathon was 2:38... I'm confident I could've done it in under 5 hours if it wasn't for my knee starting to hurt like hell at around 12 km point ._.
The last 5 km for me was the absolute worst, my legs started hurting so bad, did you experience anything similar?
But I'm going back next year to try again for that 5 hour mark. |

Nice story and congratulations on getting to the finishing line!
How does it actually feel when you know that you have finished a marathon now? |

I did this a few years ago Is this still from Changi Airport to East Coast Park and to Holland V or somewhere like that? Can't remember the exact route but it was a fun experience, kind of wasted I didn't try hard enough. Still had plenty of energy after the event and you kind of forget about the pain since it's so late at night and your brain can't function well. It was also raining but I guess not as bad as what you experienced hehe.

My experience is the same. Somewhere around the half-way mark your knees and bones start to hurt if you haven't trained specifically for the marathon.
Some tips: - Don't drink a lot of fluids at once. A little bit of water and a little bit of gatorade every now and then, otherwise your stomach will start to hurt. - Take a shit and a piss before the race. - Marathon specific training should include at least one long ass run a week of 30k so that your bones and ligaments can adapt to the strain. Even if you're a soccer wiz or a hotshot 5k runner, you're gonna feel A LOT of very uncomfortable pain if you don't adapt using longer runs when it comes to the marathon. - Grats on completing a marathon race! |
