I remember the spring of 99, waiting in a line of over a hundred for like 2 hours so I could see the very first showing of the Phantom Menace, the first new Star Wars movie in about 15 years. I was too little to remember the other ones in the theater but the Star Wars franchise was one of my all time favorites, like just about everyone else on the planet.
I had no doubts it was going to be awesome, I mean, it was the freaking Star Wars franchise, there's no way they'd ever make a bad Star Wars movie, amirite?
I remember walking of of the theater not knowing what to think. I mean, deep down I knew it was a crappy movie, but maybe I was just processing it correctly. I actually saw it again the next weekend, there were parts that were cool, but it just felt cold and boring and at all interesting or compelling.
And what is the movie's legacy. Well the hardcore fans hated it, the critics hated it, it's legacy was that of a bad joke, a punchline, the long awaited but disappointing and downright embarassing follow up to the legendary Star Wars franchise. The beginning of the end of the legend of Lucas.
How could this have happened? How could they have made it so bad? I mean parts of it were good, but the bad parts are so bad and unnecessary, they could have easily been fixed. It's like the took all the charm, originality, and character and squeezed it out of the franchise.
Interestingly enough the movie went on to be a major finacial success, in fact, not factoring in inflation, it's the #10 highest grossing movie of all time.
Sound familiar?
Behold, Diablo 3, the Phantom Menance. It's taken me a few weeks to recognize my feelings towards the game but now I remember when I felt like this before. It was after my couple viewings of Episode 1.Last edit: 2012-06-01 15:06:06 |

| It's not as bad as you make it out to be. What they did was listen to everything people bitched about in d2 and changed it. Now everyone is bitching about how it got changed to what they wanted. Honestly if you don't like it just don't play it. Seeing this shit on d3 forums is bad enough, let alone on TL. |

It's not a complete disaster, there are parts of it good. D2 wasn't perfect either.
But D3 is so utterly shallow, bland, generic, simplified, and utterly forgetable. There's no excuse that a game with the resources and legacy behind it that D3 should have been anywhere near this, well forgetable. |

Then go play D2.
D3 delivers what it promised, except for all the server issues, if you don't like it go get a refund. |

This is so annoying -- how can you justify a release in this day in age (from a company that has grown in professional ability and monetarily) that's as broken as a game from a smaller company released OVER A DECADE ago. This game should have shipped with A LOT more content for the time it was in development, and that content should be much, much more sharp than it is right now on release. Blizzard has the resources. They made a killing off of WoW and SC2. I don't think they beta tested the game themselves at all, to be quite honest. It's pretty obvious their internal team is incompetent after their claim of testing inferno (and being unable to beat it).
There is no excuse for a game in our modern time, when we've learned so much about game design over a decade, to release the way it has. The broken AH, the poor itemization, the absurd elite combinations, the hit lag, the server issues, the list goes on. Diablo 2, a 12 year old game, never had this many issues on launch. It had problems -- but my god, they had such a tiny and relatively inexperienced (by industry standards today) team creating it. Why is the Diablo 3 team so incompetent? Did they even work on this game for a few years full time? Or did they work on parts of Titan and WoW? I refuse to believe an entire team of professionals worked on this game full-time for a few years or more. |

Wait, you are complaining its too easy and in the same complaint include that some packs are impossibly hard?
Starting to really dislike the feedback most of the community gives Complain its too easy to beat the game, then proceed to complain they get two shot by any mob in inferno...
Same goes for items, complain the items are too bad and crappy, but that the AH is too stuffed with the best items. Isnt that just a complaint that you yourself arent finding any decent gear? Played alot of D2 and let me tell you this, the AH-system is way better then getting on some random forums, requesting a trade with someone and swapping items that way, all just hoping hes trustworthy, not a duper and not a scammer. Gold is actually valuable now as opposed to the gold in D2.
Theres no talk about the positives of this game at all. The story is actually pretty good, the idea of random sidequests that make sence are awesome (and expandable) and the cutscenes are killer (they actually got my gf into d3). Not to mention the good drops are more rare (it looks like it drops more cus of the AH, but drops way less then in D2 where u found a legendary from every endboss or more). The friendssystem and joining games together is also very nicely worked out. Theres good challenge trough the acts, the minibosses are a great addition in diversity and the areas you go to just look pretty awesome (act3 hearttowers giant dudes anyone?).
The game is new, its just out and the load is still huge. Blizzard cant test a load of a couple of million players. They take the betatesting, expand that to the expected sales and adjust accordingly. If the load is 10x bigger then expected... well yeh the servers are going to have a tough time. Its a new game, its part of the process. You simply cant test everything, not even blizzard. Thats what support and patches are for, we had 1 patch so far. Can we give the game some time to evolve into what its supposed to be?
I agree with grovbolle, if you liked D2 that much and hate D3 as it is, stop playing it. But stop bitching about a new game thats just out. EVERY new game has problems. In this modern age as you put it @hazard, yes the budgets are bigger so they should be able to deliver a bugfree game. Thats where you forget that the complexity is also far far bigger then the older games. The engines get bigger and theres more bit n pieces that can break, specially with a few million people hammering on it at a time. You cant test everything, its impossible.
I love this game, I play a WD and im progressing to lvl60, buying some upgrades at the AH , finding some myself, running with friends. This game will only get better and better with time, its blizzard. give blizzard time. |

yes, finished NM and havent seen 1 legendary at all.
the AH make it looks like Legendary are dime a dozen since you can find 100s of any type of legendary there, but if you think that there are 6 million people playing, those 100s actually only account for less than 0.01%

| Yeah I am also getting pretty much over all these complaints about D3. Firstly the game has just been released and it will OBVIOUSLY have errors and such in the beginning, especially since it is an online game. And secondly the way people argue their points about errors in the game is just appalling. it always sounds like 'Omg i hate diablo 3 why do i get ALL my skills instead of choosing and using about 3 all game? ffs i hate diablo 3 its so bad!'. There aren't any well constructed criticism's to be honest, just people whining because the game isn't EXACTLY how they personally wanted it to be. |

People aren't complaining that the difficulty is too hard. When you get to inferno act 2, you'll realize it's not difficult. It's not like Dark Souls. It's about getting one shotted by hit lag and unfair elites that you have zero chance against as certain classes. The game needs to be harder. It needs to have less one shotting from unfair abilities and hit lag. |

ur dumb wow, sc2, and d3 are three different properties and blizzard doesn't get that much money of them (activision does...) and more content.....? SO your telling me the years you played d2 there was different content? WAIT i bet you dont even remember all the quest why? because it was just trist----tombs----cows----baal------baal how is that betteR? d3 promised one thing mainly which was d3 itself.... nothing more nothing special just another game where you can play enjoy and then return to real life....
AND THE LAUNCH yes it was bad. BUT!!!!!!! what did you want them to do buy a shit load more servers so it could run clearly for the 1st week then what? after that week how do you justify the cost?
the elites..... why are you QQing about them being hard? i dont get it.
the lag is bad when it happends but ive been playing for since launch and ive had maybe 4 spikes in that entire time not including day 1. This is coming from someone whos playing hc too....
Whats so bad about the game itself that makes you believe its incomplete? it felt like a better d2.... the story was there the rising in difficult was there... the gear is over 100 times better than in d2 in looks and in quality no more running around and seeing the same paladin in every baal run. So it must be the pvp your talking about.... so answer me this would you just want the same system at launch from d2? no... because it sucked and you know it. Sure we need to wait for the pvp to come but a couple of months of waiting for pvp is much better than to delay launch that would of pissed you off so much more than your complain now.
Boooohoooo the AH isn't working right.... go back to d2 and spam all day to trade anything.... ill stay here and wait the 3 hours for ah to come back anyday...... |

I also hate this attitude that "it's not hard, it's just broken". I don't complain that I can't walk into an advanced aeronautics engineering exam and oneshot all the questions because "skill at thinking should >>> knowledge of the subject", and proceed to bitch that "aeronautics engineering is not hard, it's broken because if you don't know the equations you can't answer the questions, and that has nothing to do with skill".
It's yet another manifestation of this attitude that anything an individual cannot do must be because of external factors, not the individual. |

What??? So you enjoy gear checks over skill based games? If I was to play Dark Souls, I could potentially beat the game naked. The game IS REALLY hard even with some of the best items throughout the game.
in Diablo 3 inferno, you can't even beat some of the elite mobs with the best items in the game. Play against Act 4 rares with the best items in the game as a barbarian. It doesn't matter what their affixes are. They will destroy you. Your skill has no factor in inferno past act 1. It's entirely gear based.
Your knowledge argument isn't sufficient either, because the game has been theorycrafted to death and the game doesn't have that much complication in the way of stats. Another thing is your knowledge of information (and skill to use it) isn't viable in Diablo 3 like it would be with an aeronautic engineering test. It's more like -- if you had enough money in real life, you could pay your way through the engineering test without having to have the skill to take it. Optimal builds have already been found because very few skills for each class are even remotely viable in inferno. If you're in inferno yourself as a WD, you'll take note that you're either using a VQ spam build or a spamming splinter darts build.
If you're into the type of gear-check game like WoW is, fantastic for you. But Diablo isn't a series known for gear checks. You can beat almost any boss in Diablo 2 purely with skill -- to a limited degree. It was still a bit broken in Hell from immunities. In Diablo 3, a monster's affixes can entirely counter your character (and usually do) to the point where you CAN NOT solo it no matter how skilled you are without the best gear in the game. And even then, it's a stretch.

BUT!!!!!!! what did you want them to do buy a shit load more servers so it could run clearly for the 1st week then what? after that week how do you justify the cost? the elites..... why are you QQing about them being hard? i dont get it. the lag is bad when it happends but ive been playing for since launch and ive had maybe 4 spikes in that entire time not including day 1.
Can you explain what you meant in the bolded part right there.....? Also please don't resort to ad hominem.
Not sure what ad hominem means but whatever lol.
And what i mean was there was a start of the story a climax and a resolution to the story or game if you must. and just like in d2 normal was a cake walk nm was easy hell was ok (just like hell but wait d3 gave you more) and inferno is annoying lol (thats a good thing) that means im not just closing my eyes and beating the game
One more thing i want to point out we are comparing d2 and lod to d3 and i think d3 wins just because of all the improvements. sure there are thing i dont like but not as much as i disliked them in d2.
Everyone do yourself a favor load up d2 and run the game from start to end like it just came out i bet youll notice the difference in quality and effort to fix what was wrong in d2...

I think you could rent some servers for the first months? And it was not just the first day, they STILL have problems with their login servers. You would not accept this kinda shit from any other company, except games. Like if i buy a 60€ product, i expect it to work always, not when ever they have the server capacity for it.
And for me there are really only couple of issues that i hate in D3. First is the difficulty, Normal and nightmare are so easy, that dyeing there takes skills, not counting those 1-2 elite mobs with impossible add ons. I would like it to be a bit harder for the entire time, and that would give me some reason to level my alts. (Cant play HC because my internet is like crap, will be starting it when we move on fall)
And the other is legendaries. In D2 there were uniques that could drop on normal(/early mare) difficulty, that you could use all the way to hell, and they were very good. And you would get many low level set items, and low level unique drops as u went along.
At the moment me and couple of my friends have a combined gaming time of 200h+ and combined we have 1 legendary drop... That's just wrong.
But i still love D3, back to farming i guess. -> ^^ |

And even then, it's a stretch.
the game has been out for a week..... and your telling me you got the best gear a barb can get..... i doubt it. Athene's DH has the best gear so far and he kills elites with no problem unless he decide to take hits.... and thats with like 1000 fanboys giving him stuff
