I'm not too sure about this part. (The last bit, not the people milling around inside stations bit.) I mean, I don't know that they actively try to keep big games on the inside stations in order to minimize distractions for the players, but if they do... it'd be kindof silly. If Anaheim was set up to the same general floor plan as Orlando was, that would put stations 1 & 2 off to one side on a stage, and with little but the stage itself acting as a seperator. (This, btw, was amazing in Orlando. If only because I was able to watch MKP playing from literally at his feet - I was sitting less than two feet to his right on the edge of the stage, getting a crick in my neck from turning to look up at his screen. I could've yanked his chair out from underneath him midgame if I was completely insane douchebag.)
Also, the "known" pros are going to be treated a little bit better, always. If for no other reason than that they go to the events, the meet the admins/refs/organizers, and are more familiar than random masters tournament entry "Billy". I mean, towards the end of the tournament the pit might be more relaxed (I've seen people watching the main stage from in the pit because, y'know, chairs) but during the tournament it can be really really chaotic in there. |

| I guess the best think you can when you go to an MLG event, is to just focus on one game at a time. |

Man sheth, you may in fact be too good for esports, most people would be fuming about this, and you are defending the mlg refs, even though you got kind of screwed over. Glad to see you did as well as you did, and next time you will do even better! Not letting ret and ver stand behind you is something i have never heard of before, and i don't think anyone else has either. But either way thank you for explaining what happened in a fair and calm manner, and Gl hf at all of your future tournements! |

More bullshit.
I'm almost certain I've seen several other players sitting and talking after a match as well. Hell, even some guys got some coaching in the booths.
Silly rules are silly rules but whatever.
We all knew there would be scheduling conflicts as well with all the tournaments going on, but the refs really ought to be on the same page as the players. ;/Last edit: 2012-06-12 23:20:28 |

Thanks for taking the time to write this up Seth! :D I know it must have been tough to play both tourneys at the same time but you should great play!
I've been very interested in the open bracket issues that have popped up on Reddit with Smile/iNcontrol. Overall I think that MLG should really consider changing the way that is set up. Mainly in regards to spectators, Sheth and iNcontrol have made great points about having monitors/tvs to broadcast more matches from the open bracket. I know i've gone to a couple MLGs and when some of my friends are playing in the center I have no idea whats going on.
The main issues seem to revlove around the "rule" that says you can't talk to anyone in between games. EVERYONE knows (except MLG i guess) that this never happens. I want to touch on the subject of Team Coaches, in particular the NA coaches Thundertoss and Gretorp. They are supposed to talk with their players and help them work out nervousness/build order issues. If they notice their player keeps delaying getting a particular upgrade/tech structure they should be allowed to tell their players. I would really like to see MLG add a "Coach Pass" for MLG events to allow people like Thundertoss and Gretorp to do their job.
On the subject of kicking players out of the open bracket area, I can understand why they want to do this. I still think that players who pay $70 regardless of if they are on a major team or an up coming player. They should be allowed to stay in the Open bracket area IF no other spectator area(more tvs/monitors to view the matches) is designed. I think kicking players out to prevent over crowding and what not is a great but they have to address the Terrible spectator possiblities of the Open bracket. Maybe create another mini stage like Station 1-2 or something, because that always gets swarmed and for good reason!Last edit: 2012-06-12 23:54:19 |

I wasnt talking about stations 1-2, was talking about in the pit there's usually 5 rows of pc's and important championship bracket games are in rows 2-3-4 (middle) when rows 1,5 are at the edge (much easier for spectating) but don't get used.Last edit: 2012-06-13 00:07:41 |

Oh man...seeing the way you've handled this Sheth is making me feel a little childish for getting upset.
Guess it's true, running two tourneys is going to inevitably create problems. Hopefully one day they can fix them. (More importantly I hope they TRY to fix them. Excuses are not very comforting, but they tend to be the reaction we get.) |

As far as coaches, they should be allowed to watch over a players shoulder in the pit, then when they have no players playing they should have to leave.
I don't know why its not that simple. I must be completely missing something.
A lot of LP's player photos are shots taken in the pit. Check out
CatZ
Drewbie
Jinro
Taeja
Alicia
IdrA
MC and on and on and on Most pictures aren't of suitable quality for player pages, and it's actually rather hard to get good shots.
Additionally, I've seen a lot of great content produced from inside the pit, specifically from Anna (can't find any links atm because of silly site blocks at work :\)
While it may be crowded in the pit when there are 4 photographers, a coach, 2 managers, and 6 other players all watching the same player, there is more reason to remove the players, who's job is to play, than the others, who's job is to be watching the player.

Sorry that happened Sheth, somebody at MLG/WCS is a moron to put both events in one weekend, they put you players in a really bad position.
Btw, great commentary at E3 earlier in the week |

Think it was Saturday that I managed to catch you out of the ropes for the first time. My friend actually spammed me with texts about it, as it was his turn off of the seats. I had this weird goal in mind for MLG: before I got any other signature on my mouse pad, I had to get Sheth's. Also, I wanted the 2 to 23 hugs I was promised on stream once, but it didn't work out. Traded water for an autograph while feeling incredibly nervous, and even got a hug out of it! Tried to keep it short because it felt like I was a big bother while you were hanging around the player's area. I hope I wasn't too much trouble, Sheth. And thank you so much for the second at the signing event. When I get it framed I'll send you a picture. :D -- Since this is probably going to be the only time I'll write about my MLG experience, let me just add: I got to do something amazing. For the first time I managed to really show my mom the game I love. She bought me Starcraft 1 when I was eight years old, and she asked to come along to MLG when I told her about it. She watched every game with me, and cheered even louder than I did sometimes. When we got back to the hotel after the finals on Sunday, she told me a few things. She had an incredible time at MLG, she loved watching Starcraft, she wants to go to more Strarcraft tournaments, and she thinks I should try to be a Starcraft player. It was the strangest thing to hear, but it was so cool to be able to share this game with my mother. Oh man, this was way too long.
This is so cute, it makes me warm. I want more starcraft moms T_T. |
