This is an EP that I've been working on for this last four months. It's metalcore, so if you don't like to listening to screams etc. I strongly advice you not to click on the link.

Anyways, hope that someone might like it

Here you go!

Cheers!

I'm not a huge fan of the genre but I gave it a listen and I think it sounds really good. The audio quality seems top notch, can tell you worked hard on it.

seconded. I also don't really like the genre anymore, but since I know how hard it is to produce something like this, hats off to you. The guitars have quite a "djenty" feel to them sometimes, which I like, considering that every other metalcore band just does the same three whatever-their-guitars-are-tuned-to-minor arpeggios in a different order over and over again.

Thanks! Yeah, but it's also fun to learn how to tweak the sounds etc. Thanks for your time!

Btw learned a new word, had no clue what you ment by "djenty" but did a quick google, and now I know a new word, ty!

I'm not into the genre at all, yet I think you did a great, professional looking job on the sound editing. It's really clean. Love it.

Really hate the genre with a passion so i'm not gonna comment on the music itself, however the production did seem quite good. Only thing i'd really worry about is the dynamic range isn't really too big , was the recording compressed much? Anychance you could detail a little bit about the production? ^^

Yes I compressed it quiet hard to get the volume up, I went back and fourth but ended up with this. The thing is that I feel that I know a bit more now, so when the times come and I feel like recording again, it probably will end up a bit better. But I'm quiet happy with the results, but I had to narrow the time down, otherwise I could end up remix etc for a couple of more months. But Instead I can take a break now, and after a while start to wright and record new stuff.
Can you please ask more specific what you want to know, each song got about 30 channels with loads of plugins etc. So it would take a long time to go over them all

Oh of course sorry ^^ . What microphones did you use for drums? Are you happy with the amount of compression or do you think it'd work better with more dynamics? How many layers did you use for the guitars normally? How many mics did you use for each guitar take and what microphones?

I usually dont listen to the genre but I really liked it. Sounded very professional actually.
Also, the EP length is 13:37.

The funny thing is that I realized that first after I had uploaded it to soundcloud, I guess just some people got a feeling for it

Well, first off I'm recording this in my basement so I have cheated with drum samples and guitar amp simulation. So instead of miking up an amp I have lined my guitar (LTD MHB-401) in to the audio card (emu-0202). And since I'm guitarist/vocalist/pianist I chose to record the midi tracks for the drums with my midi keyboard and after that I've worked around a lot with different drum samples to get the sound that I want and felt fitting. To the vocals I'm using a se electronic 2200a microphone through a Alto s-6 mixer.
The thing with the compressor is that I lose a bit of volume dynamic but I instead gained a lot of volume both in the audio level and also to the body, kind of hard to express. Think you need to hear it to understand, It forces the audio to be even more stereo than it is. Kind a like you would have a balloon field with water, and you pressed it in the middle until it got even pushed out to the sides Like I said, hard to describe

Ask more if you like, and I will try to answer them

Oh yes of course I was wondering how you got that guitar tone by mic-ing a combo/cab makes much more sense now not a massive fan of that tone myself but it does work well within that genre ^^. Was just curious about your use of compression because when I'm mixing I tend to go super light on the compression but then again we do play totally different genres

I play in a Thrash metal band but you can hear some death metal/progressive (death , cynic, atheist) influences entering the music. Other than that I play classical guitar with a preference for pieces from the baroque period which would probably be one of my favorite styles of music , I absolutely love it ^^ other than that i've played in the odd pop/pop-rock band cos I got paid for it.
