Over the past 2 weeks I've been really trying to work on my macro and I'm finding I still can't get out of gold league. Every game I go for a 1 rax fe, keep unspent below 300/300 most of the game (unless maxed, or for a few seconds here and now when being harassed). With most of my gold league opponents I lose to, I find that they are on 2 base for pretty much the whole game, floating 1k/1k when they get to about 100 supply and and then floating up to 3k/3k when they hit 150-200. Additionally I lead them in supply by between 50-100 until the last engagement which I lose. Admittedly I do get supply blocked 1-2 times per game but that's mostly after 120+ supply is reached.
I thought Gold league and below was just make units and A move to victory. I'm even using a semi-proper build order (marine - tank - medievac). What is wrong with me?
I've included some replays where I've lost, and the last one where I won.
first off I am a High Diamond Terran and i have been right where you are now
well after watching the 1st game the first thing i noticed was that you took your 4th gas way too early a terran only needs 3 gas for making reactor medivacs and getting 1-1 you dont really need a 4th gas until you take your third that hindered your mineral income even though you had the same number of scv's at the 10 minute mark that many of the masters players i play against on ladder have, you actually (in terms of mineral income) were down by 3 leaving you with wayyy too much gas for the 10 minute mark also you got supply blocked in the middle of an attack (70/70) and that is probably one of the easiest ways to lose everydamnthing also you got a tech lab on your first rax and didn't make marauders out of it that and your stim was SUUUUPER late (hate it when that happens ) and since you weren't getting enough minerals your third was quite late ( a safe and quick-ish 3rd is down by 13 minutes and when you saw he was going for colossus and didn't make any vikings and as much as i dislike telling someone what style of play to use i must say this much that marine tank against toss is tough even for myself you also never made ghosts and against toss they are a MUST even if they dont go templar you can't deny the fact that emp = the shit
Okay im pretty sure you can see what happened in the second game, just keep that wall intact, its soo much less stressful if you do it that way
my best advice is to go and watch these videos here
and even though you aren't bronze just play some customs practicing the bronze and silver lessons
your macro is not bad by any stretch of the imagination especially for a gold level player but its just not really having a clear cut 100% set in stone build that is holding you back
after watching these videos a friend of mine who was stuck in silver shot his way up to diamond in little under a week (he was on holiday so he played all day every day but still you get the point) if you follow this series like law you WILL get out of gold if you put in the time
my internet is acting up and not letting me DL the rest :/ I will update this post with more info when i see the other games
Thanks for the recommendations, I've watched the first 3 of the Filterstarcraft videos and his style is to make addons on all three barracks before he makes the factory, and then to take a gas after the factory completes? So does that mean that when I go MMM that I should take the 4th gas when I take the third base as well?
I guess I'm still stuck in the mindset that making lots of units, keeping the money really low and constantly making SCVs will allow you to A click your way into Diamond league. Those days seem to be long gone.
