Hey TL! I have a problem. I'd like your experience, your thoughts, and your solutions.
When I play games, I can generally only play 2-3 games, then I need a break. A bit part of this is me being nervous/tense during games. This is especially true of long, intense games. After only one such game, I'm so exhausted that I dont want to play anymore.
Any help?

I used to be the same, atleast to some extent. But it got alot better when I stopped trying to get better and/or to play competetive. But thats not the whole solution and I dont remember the exact events at the time since I quit 9 years ago. Maybe low level teamgames going for crazy builds with your offrace could help a bit. Just trying to tell yourself that you are going to mess around could ease your tension a bit. Unfortunately my advice = running from your problems in a way.

playing a lot of starcraft is a little bit like running. on your first try you wont be able to run very far, same with starcraft.
the only way you;re able to run a lot is by practicing and trying to beat your previous time, this is exactly the same with sc2. streaming pros didn;t start out by playing 10 hrs a day, that's jsut them playing a little mroe each week or w/e.
I had the same problem when i started with sc2. I always watched the replay to get some rest after a game. But it got a lot better and today i can play for hours without a break. Just playing for a long time (two years now) fixed it for me. Dont force your self if you are exausted obviously. Take a break and continue if u feel good.
Or just play 3 games then break and come back for more?
I also feel that 3 games is max for, then I need to occupy my mind on somthing else, and then I come back and play some more. You can only stay focused for so long, if im not mistaken around 45 min, then you'll slowly start loosing focus and its becomes a struggle, thats why you feel "exhausted".
Just take a 15min breather and come back.
and about nervous/tense, thats just a matter of geting used to playing, I mean the ideal way to play would be having basic macro and micro in your muscle memory, opening up your mind to more complex and game deciding decisions. At the beginning you most likely have to think about micro and macro, which makes it really really stressfull to play.

I found the best way to get over it is to just keep playing. When I first started playing BW way back when, I felt the same tension during games. So many years later, I'm completely relaxed when I play because SC has become second nature.

Keep a large glass of water next to you while you play, and take a few gulps between games. 1: water keeps you hydrated, always good. 2: its like taking a quick breath after running a sprint (if you get the adrenaline like I do after a macro game).
Also, I tend to get up and walk around for a minute between every game, just to keep the blood flowing, I really have a problem sitting down for a really long time.

Thanks for your answers guys! I've been playing since the beta, so I dont know about the "getting used to play" part... Although I dont play all that much I guess... But yeah, I think taking breaks might be a good idea

Sometimes I wish I had some form of ladder anxiety. Instead I chug away for four-five hours straight, not caring if I'm losing or winning, and wonder where the day went...
Worst is when I try to play hungover, I think I've done it three time and accumulated a record of something like 5-36 (actually should be pretty close to the actual record, I remember going 1-11 and 2-13 and don't recall the third run but it was around the same rate).
Some people (like Kas, for the biggest example) don't have problems massing games. Most of us, unfurtunetely because of not perfect mechanics, still struggle with simple things, therefore the game becomes more exhausting. I suggest you to try to play constantly without the fear of losing or winning since unless you are a pro gamer, taking the matches so serious shouldn't matter for you.

Stop playing? o.0
Or are you some kind of masochist, looking for help in how to make yourself suffer some more?
My answer -
Before you tell me something like - this is just a game: Some people dont try to mesure how much effort to put into something. As long as it is possibly they would put as much time and effort in EVERYTHING they do. So not being able to succeed in something you like is much MUCH worse then any possible problem it may cause. Anybody who decided to take care of himself (gym and diet change) and stick to it enough time to get into it will know exacly what i am talking about
I get this feeling whenever I havn't played for 2 weeks. Just force yourself to play 10+ games in a row for a couple of days and this totally goes away.
A big part of it is the adrenaline + that you have to focus really hard. Playing more games will make more things automatic and there will be way less adrenaline in your body.
I've seen this in all my friends who play SC2.

Its like every other training just force yourself to do more games like lets say once you are exhausted play 1 more then the other day when you are exhausted play 2 more and so on. After you uped the games to 10~15 you won't get exhausted so easy. So just play more.
play some customs to warm up. losses don't affect anything, and the opponents' skill ranges from complete scrubs to mid masters players, so it's kinda like playing roulette. (which makes it a lot of fun)
