| THANKS A LOT for the interview / framing shots part. This has been pissing me off for a loooong time. Boggles my mind why so many professionals get this simple concept wrong. Especially since it's so easy to fix. Watch 1 or 2 sports broadcasts and look how they frame their shots. |

I need to research this further...
I think you have a good point, shame you didn't mention Soe, who I think does great job being MC/interviewer with decent amount of knowledge. |

Edited: By the by, got that little IPL thing right, and I think I only watched like 1 hour of the whole entire thing. Bottom line? Yeah, I'm pretty awesome.Last edit: 2012-07-06 20:21:34 |

Hyper sexualised content is also kinda annoying. 'The chair' advert at HSC V for instance.
But yeah, I think your points here have merit, but I imagine there's a long way to go until they're properly addressed. |

| Love this video, hopefully these issues are taken a bit more seriously by tournament directors/producers in the future. |

Yeh, it's amazing how much I learned from this video how bad these ESPORTS companies frame their shots. |

I totally remembered aLive won IPL4! But I'm also the person that always remember Polt as a former GSL champion and the winner of biggest prize pool in SC2, which everyone seems to forget... Which is completely similar to your point on Fnatic_aLive's achievement in IPL4!
As someone who have an interest in photography I've always been quite upset with the framing of many shots during big events. I remember IPL3 and MLG Arenas as being far ahead of the competition in terms of framing all their shots in a really professional and proper way. There's still the joke with the NASL Camera guy (from NASL season 1 finals) that pops up in stream chats every once in a while when the camera is doing weird stuff at a big event, and I really think events should spent more time working on the presentation of their product instead of trying to always look for new fancy stuff to add like on stage interviews, couch interviews, analyst panels and all that. I'd much rather see a tournament have a much better presentation of their current product instead.
I also think making sure the shots have good lightning and exposure would do a lot to help players stand out more. Like the shot you showed with Sen in his Fnatic shirt standing next to Rachel in her black and white dress, I think was more due to lack of good light on the shot, which naturally makes white stand out, since it'll reflect what little light there is much better, in comparision to a mostly black shirt.
I remember when Ongamenet were hosting the Starcraft 2 tournament at WCG 2011 and I got reminded of the production value which we all know from OSL and MSL in Broodwar. I think tournaments should look into trying to copy from leagues which have much more experience in esports such as OSL. They really bring the players out much better than everyone else. With good shots of players in booths, before and after the game, as well as good interviews.
I somewhat agree with your point on girls and their role, but I believe it's more about having more focus on the players and less on hosts and casters. Because I think that's a more general concern in SC2 right now. How casters and hosts take a lot of focus away from the stars of the show, the players. |
