Day 4, Filling Knowledge Gaps

Today will be short, due to limited time (new internet line being installed, setup).

Knowledge gaps. The bane of any newcomer in the Starcraft universe. Yesterday we talked about finding them, today we get to fix them. The biggest challenge in dealing with a knowledge gap is identifying it, so after reading yesterday's blog the hardest step is already done. The next step is finding someone who has the information you need. And if you're already on this site, those people are very easy to find.

This is going to be the best place to start when you need simple knowledge. "How much damage does 'x' do?" or "How fast does 'y' build?" are questions that are most easily answered here. Simply put, almost any in-game stat you could need will be there. Other out-of-game information can also be found here, such as how to read build orders, or how to use and combat specific strategies.

This site needs to come with a small disclaimer. A lot of things that can be found here are outdated, and are no longer as effective as they once were. That said, this can still be a great place to find answers to questions you may have. And if the answer isn't already available, there are several places to ask people for help, and most of the time they will try to be useful. Questions like "What cheese should I expect to be used against me?" or "What is the earliest I could see Dark Templar if my opponent fast expands?" can more easily be found here.

For most people this is the most enjoyable way to obtain knowledge. Having an intelligent guy sit at his computer for an hour and tell you how to deal with colossi while telling some hilarious anecdote can be a great way to learn. Not every gap can be filled here, (imagine the time that would take), but any question that is answered will be thoroughly covered.

These are easily to best 3 places to gain the knowledge that will fill any gaps we have. The last place worth mentioning is that many players will add commentary to their streams, and that is always worth listening to. Tomorrow we'll talk about fixing any difficulties we have putting that knowledge to use for our decisions.
