This morning my son (age 3) and I were sitting at the table eating some breakfast. In the middle of his banana and yoghurt, he looks up at me and with a deep, growly sing-song voice says "Clap hands. Clap Hands."

My first thought was a reference to the They Might Be Giants song "Clap Your Hands" seeing as we are TMBG freaks in my house...

...but after another second of thinking, I realized that he was asking for a different song altogether. A huge smile starting beaming from my face. I asked "Do you want me to play that song?" to which he replied with a nod. I immediately put the song on.

Tom Waits is one of my personal and musical heroes, so nothing make me happier than for my son at 3 years old to sing and ask to listen to Tom Waits.

I wanted to go see one of his shows once. Nope. Sold out in three hours. Not even that, but the ticket prices were above a hundred bucks for the cheapest seats.

LoL. Don't worry, it happened at actual morning time, I just didn't write this until the evening. I was still beaming and being a proud dad when I got on to TL.

Those are great ones. We play a ton of The Mountain Goats and Tom Waits. He still has not heard Ben Folds much, but we play Fraggle Rock and Muppet songs on piano and guitar a ton. It is a great time. He loves to take the toy guitar hero controller and pretend it is a real guitar and rock out and sing. Little rock stars are awesome.
