Anyone remember that web series? The Halo comedy series that first came out around 2003? I watched the first several seasons religiously, but I must say that after almost 10 years the humor seems way more racist and sexist than I remember. The charming bits are still charming (Sheila the tank, Simmons 2.0, etc.), and Lopez is still pretty damn funny, but I guess I've matured since I was like 13 (surprise!).
I decided to sample a few episodes from the latest seasons (9 and 10), and I'm disappointed to say the least. It's not even trying to be funny anymore. I'm not saying that as an insult: it's literally not supposed to be funny. There are no attempts at humor. The characters I remember are gone, besides Tex and Wyoming, but no mentions are made to Sarge or Simmons or Griff, or Church or hell even Donut. There are no jokes. Apparently it's supposed to be really serious. But who the hell watches Red vs Blue for a serious plot? Who plays Halo for a serious plot, for that matter? One of the biggest draws of this web series was the spoofing of the multiplayer itself: the opening line of the first episode of the first season is, "Why are we here?"
The effects are snazzier and the production value has obviously gone up, but I don't give a shit about that. I want talking bombs and alien babies, damn it!
Has anyone been following this show long enough to clue me in to the moment the show's tone changed?

| Shows like have really don't have 9-10 seasons worth you shouldn't force episodes I remember the first couple seasons and yes they are quite hilarious I stopped after it all went to Halo 2 so I haven't seen any since. |

| I dunno about you, but I liked some of the heavier stuff in seasons 6-8 (especially Reconstruction). The humor in season 9 and 10 during the freelancer flashbacks does seem pretty out-of-place and jarring, however, especially those little scenes with two soldiers making small-talk before dying. |

I liked it when I first watched years back, but as the plot moved from Halo 1 to Halo 2 I think the quality declined.
Does Rooster Teeth have any other projects ongoing right now? |

| I only watched the first three seasons, and still watch them from time to time. That's good stuff, mang. Never really watched any further than that, so I can't say. |

| I think it's a thing where most of what's funny now is like...inside jokes from seasons prior. I think that's where they lost me at least - when the shit stopped being independently funny. |

its still funny its just not completely focused on jsut getting the jokes across
there are some parts where it seems like there trying to be funny and it fails but theres still enough parts in it to make me laugh
it happened really slowly, they started on a more overall plot after season 5(?) when they all left bloodgulch then tehy started shuffling the humour more and more to the side with each season
at this point its pretty much one episode with 20% plot and 80% humour and the next one with 70% plot and 30% action
still worth watching every week

| I'm still watching it, but I do have to say it's changed so much from what it used to be. It's arguably less funny than it used to be, but in exchange it has better action and a broader story. Unfortunately, I preferred it the way it used to be, so I like the show much less now. I still watch all the episodes though. |

I hated how suddenly during S5+ everyone became semi-competent and they tossed in a bunch of plot twists. All of a sudden + Show Spoiler +Church wasn't ACTUALLY Chruch, Tex wasn't ACTUALLY Tex, Blue and Red worked together and actually accomplished something, Freelancers are basically real Spartans and the other stuff like that.
I understand that they sort of planned the storyline and had direction instead of randomly taking off on the later stories, but to me, the serious stuff really sucked the fun out of the show. Yeah, the badass stuff is badass and sure, they still have jokes and its not like Caboose developed a brain cell or Griff found a spine, but its not the same thing as the older seasons.
I guess my problem is that like all shows, RvB had to evolve or die and they sort of blended hardcore action with some comedy to keep the show fresh, but still make it familiar. For me it didn't work =\ |

This is actually quite common with anything funny.
It is called diminishing returns. When someone tells you a joke it is funny but it becomes less funny the next time you see it. |

Well, that kind of sucks. I understand the need for some development, but not an entire focal shift from parody to CGI action scenes.

This is a little harsh. It's not as pants-pissing funny as it seemed when I was 12, but it still has its charm. Kind of like old Nickelodeon cartoons. |
