There are MANY small religious festivals in Spain. Pretty much every small town or village has its own festival dedicated to a local patron or saint. I would try to visit some of these. These kind of festivals are quintessentially Spanish, in Spain traditions last so long and are being kept alive. Be sure to check out Spanish cuisine. Eat like the locals do: a big big lunch at 2-3 PM. It is so good.
Also, although Madrid and Barcelona are great cities, southern Spain is absolutely STUNNING. Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada. They are great historic cities, old, beautiful and the weather is usually great.
If you like soccer, it would be great to visit a match. To see live flamenco and/or tango is fun as well, although many performances are catered toward tourists so if you want a more genuine experience you have to keep your eyes and ears open. A bullfight, if you are into that?
Dutch guy here, who is absolutely in love with Spain.

Bring Sunblock!! lol but seriously its hot as hell
It really depends on what you want to do, in Madrid you have some nice historic places to visit but you will probably find many tourists there, you could also visit the north of Madrid (not so many tourist atractions but its very very pretty)
You have El Retiro (huge park with a lake that you can rent a boat to spend the day) you have El Pardo (big ass forest) All this is in Madrid.
Also like someone already said Spanish cuisine, enjoy every little bit of it.
Hell if ya want send me a PM ill show you around if you want :D
Have Fun dude and please remember your sun block!!

My dad was already brown as fuck from sitting in the sun over here in germany. When we arrived in spain a month ago, we obviously went to the beach first. It was really cloudy that day, you couldn't even see the shape of the sun...
Yeah even my father had a terrible terrible sun burn. (I was smart and had sunblocker lol)

Thanks for all the replies. I can't wait, I know for a fact we're trying out the cuisine. I'm bringing a lot of money for food alone haha :D
And thanks for warning me about the sunscreen. My girlfriend has allergies with the sun, so it's good you let me know. |
