Hello everyone who reads this, this is not your typical, well formatted, well presented, well spell checked and grammered blog, this is simply me, talking about how my life is going.

So who am i? and whyt eh hell should you even take the time to read this, well, i am the 3rd highest ranked WoW player in the united kingdom.

I recently quit mmo gaming, believing that the scene was dead, which to be fair, it really is. at least at a lan tournement level.

Iv tried to train to be competative at other games, as all iv ever wanted to do was to be a competitive gamer, and waking up withouyt any kind of goal in life is not a palce i want to be.

iv always claimed that skill makes a good player, but attitidue makes a great one, however, since switching between games trying to find a new home, it has hit me that my attitude to training is good, but i just cant seem to motivate myself to smash my face against sc2, LOL or dota for 14 hours a day.

Always my mind turns back to MMO's

I dont want to fade silently into the night, and let the one thing that iv been good at pass away into nothing without even trying to save it.

I am really going out asking for your guys to help me here. im all torn up inside because i dont know what to do with my life regarding Esports.

Yours.

Vern

Guild wars 2? Seems the obvious choice..If you want something that has a good following, massive prizepools and tournaments everywhere, your going to want to pick one of the ones you mentioned, LoL, Dota, SC2.

TBH it's waaay too big question to seek an answer for on forums filled with random people.

I guess take like 2 week strict break from gaming, then go back and check whether your passion to play returned. If not, you probably stopped caring enough to go on your competitive career. If so, there's nothing wrong about it; just move on and settle yourself totally different goal, preferably in a real life.

That's at least what I'd do in your position, but again, I'm not you, I don't know you, and it's kinda hard to judge this here...
What what the the fuck fuck? That blew my mind so much, I doubled every word in the phrase 'What the fuck' to get: 'What what the the fuck fuck my what the the fuck fucking what did the drop dropship medivac where in the what in the hell?' - Day[9]

Iv written a fair amount on GW2, but sadly i dont think that it will cut it as an esport due to circle capping D;

Let it go and walk outside.

Take a good hard look at yourself and try to figure out what you wan't out of life.

I'd also suggest picking up a musical instrument, not only is it ridic fun, you seem to be drawn to the idea of mastering a discipline(generalisation here but I was in exact same situation back in TBC and picking up the guitar again helped me temendously)
If you don't enjoy what you are doing, then what you are aiming for will be filled with the negativity that came attaining it

So when you try BW and realize it sucks, you can also look at FPS/Fightan games.

Can't imagine not being able to smash your face at dota2 for 14 hours, I can barely stop playing even after 12+ hours.

imagine being one of the best players at a game and then switching to being one of the worst.

Add your quote to that and think again:

"Skill makes a good player, Attitude makes a great one."

Ask yourself two things:

1. Do you want to play a game you're good at already because it makes you feel good or because you feel that you have already achieved what you wanted and are now too bored /lazy/ afraid to start from scratch?

2. Is mmo really the only thing that you want to do in your free time/life?

And on the "I don't wanna play a game I'm not good at" - thingy: Don't deprive yourself of something you could actually enjoy because you are to afraid/ lazy to suck at first and put effort into it. I don't assume you were born a great WoW-player.

hehe its more that i was i was very competative at wow, so im hesitant to try and reach that same level on another game, as it would be like a pro football player trying to get pro at hockey

Don't be evasive here. WHY doesn't that football player just kick his own ass and give hockey a decent try? After all, there's some resemblance between the two games; you have a goal, hockey has that thingy that resembles a ball...and you get that cool mask ;P

So - why?

Edit: lol. Internet ruins my brain^^: football player, not gamer XD

You will never be as good at any game ever again.

You probably didn't realise it but you have mastered wow(sorry to burst ur bubble but if the gcd is still involved that's not a feat worth mentioning). Mastering something takes ALOT of time, discipline and a certain hunger in your belly. Get used to not having that hunger anymore.

If you are anything like me, you will want to be at the top of whatever again..but you will not have that unquestionable drive....I played tf2 and quake after I quit wow. I'm a division 1 player in both(lol austrlian fps scene....prob like div 8 in europe) but I never had that drive to keep playing when I was tired, watch videos of the pros when no one was online...etc..

I believe that's because subconsciously I knew I didn't want to sacrifice that ammount of time into a video game again...best decesion i've ever made...I still play these games but I don't think of them as my life...barely a small part of it. I'm not saying you will have this same view, but if you do take up a new game competitivly I URGE you to realise that no matter how gosu you were at anything else, the only thing that can transfer over is learning skills. It's not an opinion, this is a fact. Motor mechanics take a long fucking time to get up to a professional level..and as you probably know it takes sooooo much effort to be that top 1% instead of just the top 5%...

Change is always painful...its called growing...we all have to get used to it. I suggest reading The art of learning by josh waitzken. A very good book into learning any discipline(although it's aimed at the competitive side of things).

PS: Everything you do requires the cooporation of your body, don't mean to generalise here but since you played wow 14 hours a day for ages I'm going to assume you are unhealthy...

HEALTHY BODY + HEALTHY MIND = HAPPY PERSON
