Hey TL.
A little explanation.
UCLA is the University of California Los Angeles. It's one of the best universities in the world by reputation, has a huge research base, sports teams, etc. It's about an hour north of my house.
UCSD is the University of California Sand Diego. It's got a great sciences department, it's by the beach, and it has a unique 6-college in 1 setup, where when you attend, you are also within one of 6 smaller colleges that you graduate from, each with its own requirements and goals. It is about an hour south of my house.
I'm going into my third year of community college, with plans to apply this fall for next fall at either UCLA or UCSD (UC Irvine is a backup of sorts, because I live close enough to commute).
Now, there are still some unanswered questions I have about the school application process that I will get answered by a counselor in the next week or two, but in the meantime I have visited both campuses in the past three days because I had not actually ever bee not either campus.
After taking the two tours, you realize that they are VERY different places. I liked UCSD right off the bat, but I'm not sure how much I would like it after spending some time there.
I wasn't sure about UCLA right away because it's very different than what I'm used to, but again, I'm not sure how much I might grow to like it after spending some time there.
Do any TLers have any input on either school that could help with a consideration process? I'm also asking friends I know to go there, but I figure more opinions are better!

EDIT: Physiological Science major. I've heard recently that it is super competitive at UCLA (and possibly ucsd too i dont know) so I might switch once I get there, but it will be in that vain for sure.Last edit: 2012-08-24 12:56:22

| UCSD is a lot more easy going people wise, but for a college experience I'd go to UCLA. I'm a UCSD alum and my cousins went to UCLA. |

| Both schools are great and will offer a really awesome education. I've had several friends go to UCSD and they enjoyed it-- but they're nerdier types. My less nerdy friends attended UCLA (though they were still nerds) and enjoyed it as well. FWIW UCLA is in a cool area in the city, whereas UCSD is in a more suburban setting. |

| Haven't been to UCLA but I have been to UCSD before and their campus is pretty nice. When I went there however, a lot of the girls I saw were... not really attractive (maybe the triton eye that people have been talking about is real!). That's all I really know (not much). |

| I thought community colleges only did two year degrees? You can transfer after three years, won't a years worth of credits not transfer? |

^2 years is ideal, but not all community colleges have the room in classes for everybody to graduate on time in 2 years, so people stay longer.
OP: I would choose UCLA (though I'm not very fond of either of those schools). UCSD just seems like a place where fun goes to die. |

If you're social: go to a bigger university (UCLA). Not social in respect to talking to everyone, but that you like to have fun with other people.
If not, UCSD. I know a girl that goes there. Very hot, very shy. She said she went there because there is no forced interaction, and it's much like a community college. |

We'd be glad to have you at UCSD, as we can always use more people to practice for CSL.
If you want to get a feel for the life here as a transfer student, drive down on a weekend after school starts and check out The Village, as that is where you will be living. Most people I know highly recommend it.
You can also meet us (the starcraft nerds). |

oh yeah that reminds me, transfer students have it so good in terms of living. New dorms which are REALLY nice and new market which is awesome if you cook for yourself a lot and Bistro. I went to ERC so much after those opened.
