In the light of recent tragic events in the USA, Starcraft has gained national news attention. While the content of the message is mainly negative, it is well known that all news is good news.
Which doesn't mean that the news is inherently good, but it can be made to help. So the point of this is to pool TL's resources (you guys) and to come up with some way we can effect the real change that is needed.
We cannot effect this kind of thing, but what we can do is show that the Starcraft community and gaming in general is a very positive, upbeat community that brings people from across the world together.
So what can WE do to help with this disturbing trend of mass shootings, and at the same time, show the world that Starcraft is not a blight?
Here are my suggestions:
I propose to any pro's who are willing, to host a streaming event, in which all proceeds go to Autism research. While Autism is not the reason for these shootings, it's something that we don't know enough about, and it shows the world that we care.
Thinking big, we could make an ART (Autism research tournament) or some other new tournament, and try to find a way to turn it into one of the largest Autism funding events that are currently held. This would require the big faces in the Starcraft 2 world to be on board as well as somebody who can get the sponsers (EvilGeniuses, Team Liquid?). We then make a, half goes to players, half goes to Autism event. I think The Cynical Brit would be an excellent main caster for this. But ALL of the big names should be there. This would require money, and the most we've seen in Starcarft. Could our main foreign teams do it?
