So i saw his blog and people were saying it was a stupid riddle, therefore I present you with one of my own:
All you have is a rope and a lighter/match/something to burn the rope with.
The rope takes exactly 60 minutes to burn.
How do you measure out exactly 45 minutes?

the real riddle consists of two ropes with irregular burning patterns, i.e. it may burn really slow for 59 minutes and really fast for 1 minute
you just burn one at both sides and the second on one side, and when the first rope burns up, burn the second rope's leftover side to get 45 minutes |

uh fuck me, "it may burn really slow for 59 minutes and really fast for 1 minute" is a bad way to phrase it
i meant it might burn really slowly for 1/100 of the rope but burn really fast for the rest

wait, and that deals with the irregular burning rate? who knows how far the 2nd rope will burn when the first rope is done?
im guessing the first rope will take 30 minutes, but how do you know how far the 2nd will burn?
and what is this "leftover side"? whats left is left. and you don't know if it burned slow for 59 minutes or fast for 1 minute.
and we had a 2nd rope???
okay, so if the rope burns at a linear rate, then the riddle is retarded. if it doesn't, then it needs to be stated so. and also if you have 2nd 3rd 4th ropes.Last edit: 2008-08-16 13:05:51 |

ohhhhhhhhhh okay, ur trying to measure out 45 minutes, not 45 minutes worth of rope, or burn 45 minutes worth of rope.

According to the OP, you only have one rope. My guess:

To find the halfway point of a rope you just hold both ends and let it hang...unless it's too long to do that. I hate riddles. It makes everyone realize just how stupid I am. I don't even know why I put this in spoilers... -_- |
