Is there a game out that's running 4.0 rules? Not that I approve of them or anything |

mods I never play without: G3's BG2 fixpack (not really a mod) G3's BG2 tweak pack Quest Pack Sword Coast Stratagems 2
the npc mods I've enjoyed most: Angelo Xan AmberLast edit: 2008-10-23 11:10:14 |

Use Sword Coast Stratagems 2 instead of Tactics. It does most of the same, and some things better (or at least more realistically).
Cheating character stats is easy, just use the program Shadow Keeper. Last updated in 2001 or so but it works well. Dead simple to use.
And don't forget these mods (the first three improve NPC interaction a lot): - Banterpack - Romantic Encounters - NPC Flirtpack - D0 Questpack (adds a few smaller quests) - Assassinations (I still haven't played it yet since it's quite new but it looks VERY promising. Probably best with an evil party) - Fixpack + TweakpackLast edit: 2008-10-23 13:41:55 |

Ok guys. Tactics seemed really uber lame. I mean each time i try to sleep in the Irenecus's dungeon i'm attacked by a fucking druegar mage buffed -.- I use my spells to kill him and then i have to sleep again
I will try to cheat the stats too and to reduce my hp
edit: i will still try to beat tactic illycht ( it is said to be the hardest fight in BG2 mods ^_^ ) just to brag.

Best NPC mod I've ever tried was the Imoen romance tbh. It's just incredibly well written. All negative opinions I've ever read regarding the mod was from people who quite simply haven't tried it.
It doesn't add much to the gameplay part of BG2, only bad thing is that so far there isn't a ToB part yet, so I ended up shevling that savegame and hiding it in some folder, then uninstalling the mod, otherwise I'd never be able to play ToB again, heh.
Oh, and regarding stats, I'd just use shadowkeeper. Yes, it's a savegame editor, but there's really nothing to learn, at least for just changing stats. Just open savegame, write new numbers for the stats, save the edited file. Hardest part is downloading it, but sorcerers place should have a download link somewhere. ^^Last edit: 2008-10-23 19:30:29 |

Not that I know of.
The 4.0 rules would be fine for a video game, they just don't suit the tabletop game that well (too combat-focused). |

Wowowoow u mean with a level 8 char "naked" ? ( only with the items you find in the dungeon ).
So far after like 5 tries i only get the demon at wounded level and illytcht and his friends at lightly wounded. But those fuckers use their potions
- my assassin and Jaheira are completly useless. I gonna try with confusion or mind control but i guess that they have top notch saves vs spells lolololol
:D
Oh and i still don't know how to kill the golem :D Gogo Imoen with dagger +1 ---> fail.Last edit: 2008-10-24 04:19:45 |

If you use SCS2, there's an option for that... I like having it enabled because the tactic of luring single monsters from a group to kill them one by one is sooo unrealistic.
Btw for some fun also enable Add high-level abilities (HLAs) to SoA mages/priests - ouch. |

Sounds crazy lol.
Can't say anything about new BG2 NPCs, haven't played with any yet...
LOL I think everyone got raped by that party in the inn when playing for the first time. But they're really not that tough even when you go there straight after the dungeon. Just use some good spells and positioning...
I hope you have the "always toughest random spawns in towns/wilderness/dungeons/etc." options enabled for Tactics, that should provide you with some quality "entertainment" too. The SCS2 version is also very nice, quoting from the Readme:
Increase difficulty of level-dependent monster groupings
At various points in the unmodded game, BG2 chooses the strength of the monsters you face based on your level. Typically there are four encounters, and which one you get depends on your experience level.
This component causes the game to give you somewhat tougher choices; there are four options available. "Mildly increased difficulty" causes you to get a fight one step too high-level for you; "significantly increased difficulty" gives you a fight two steps too high, and "almost-maximum difficulty" gives you the hardest possible fight whatever your level (with one exception: see below). Other ability-dependent components are modified in a similar way to try to achieve the same effects.
The only exception to the general rule is the "spawn-undead" script, whose highest-level setting causes liches to spawn. SCS II liches are so much more powerful than vanilla ones that it is nearly suicidal to take them on at lower levels (at least without cheesy tactics), so even on the "almost-maximum difficulty" setting they don't spawn unless you have at least 1 million XP. If you really, really want a massively-hard-to-injure undead archmage dumping Pit Fiends and Horrid Wiltings on you at 8th level, install the fourth option, "maximum difficulty".
This component is rather like the "always tougher spawns" component of Tactics, but it's rather more customisable (and, since modding tools are much improved since Tactics was written, it installs in a way that's less likely to mess up other mods).
The maximum difficulty would be just the thing for you, right? (I have played it on "significantly increased difficulty" and the random encounters were SO GODDAMN HARD I got really paranoid when travelling etc... and I completely avoided walking through town at night (always rested till day). I don't want to know how it would be on almost-maximum or maximum difficulty...)Last edit: 2008-10-24 22:17:41 |

hahah seems awesome i really need to play it. It changes completly the game, now i really use my brain and i respect my opponents.
I wonder how insane it would be to solo BG2/TOB with the hardest modules of Tactics / Improved Battles / SCS 2 / Ascension / Redemption on the hardest difficulty setting. So sick. |

Try it... But really, soloing isn't really harder... some people find it easier because it's *much* easier and faster to micromanage just one character instead of multiple ones (actually that's probably the biggest reason why the RPGs where you only control 1 character are more successful nowadays and party RPG games are a dying breed)... and you get all the good stuff for yourself, you never have money problems, you can buy dream equipment very early, and you can buff up like mad from the tons of potions, scrolls etc. you find - you don't have to share... That said, enabling all the crazy options will likely make the game impossible, whether soloing or not. Or you have to reload 30+ times during some fights. Not really worthwhile...Last edit: 2008-10-24 23:29:30 |
