I was browsing through nicovideo.jp as i regularly do, when I decide to watch this:
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm5433129

I don't know why, but.. no actually I know exactly why, that video inspired me because that looked FUN.

FUN compared to sitting on my 360 which I've owned for 2 years now and barely cracking a smile while I get mediocre k:d ratios on Halo and Call of Duty after a few hours, sometimes being enraged by repetitive dying as so often happens with games of this sort.
Honestly I've never touched my 360 this past year except for those occasions where friends come over and want to play it. Most of those times I just get on the computer and do other things while they sit there on 360, eventually growing extremely bored of playing it. Any game I've bought for the 360 (I have 7 total) has lasted me maybe an average of 25 hours of actual entertainment, even the RPGs bored me after a bit.
Maybe it's just me, but I really don't think the 360 is that much fun; Xbox live is a good service, but it never really appealed to me for more than a week of my buying it. I regret buying it and wish I would have bought a Wii (it was cheaper then too TT) instead of succumbing to the masses of peers who told me Wiis were for little kids and that 360s were where the "real" entertainment lay.

Anyway,
I'm looking through and seeing loads of games that I know are fun from past experiences at a friend's house or that I know will definitely keep me entertained.
There's such a diverse array of [great] games that seem to be available for Wii, and though this generally applies to every console, games like Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Okami are the kinds of things you can only find for Wii.
Furthermore, I'm such a huge fan of Zelda games and really want to play Twilight Princess, but I heard the Gamecube version was much worse than that of the Wii. I loved Animal Crossing for GC and the City Folk seems like something that would last me, especially because now you can interact online. The original Animal Crossing lasted me a very relaxing round year, checking back every now and then even though I could only interact with computer AIs. Paper Mario for N64 was SO GREAT, possibly one of the best RPGs I've played as I remember it as a kid, and the new Super Paper Mario looks incredible.
Games like these are really swaying my motive to just buy a Wii already with some of the money I've saved, and possibly sell my 360, seeing as to how I really never play it.

Well then, I'm really interested in what you all have to say as the span of these consoles have progressed. I saw the other 2 threads on this, one showing opinions in 2006 and the other in 2007. Nearing the end of 2008, I want to know what TL thinks about these 2 consoles (PS3 too hardcore for me to have fun with).

Opinions, advice, flame, all greatly appreciated.

I'm just going to say that all the current gen systems have their merits. I personally love my ps3. My roommates have Wiis, and my other roommate had an Xbox 360. That said, the Wii really isn't above or better than those. Maybe you'll enjoy it more, I can't say for certain. Here's what I will tell you--and it should be noted that this is coming from a die-hard Nintendo/Zelda fanboy--the GCN version of Twilight Princess is every bit as good, and in some ways better (I suppose in some ways worse to... but generally better) than the Wii version. I know it's stupid, but Link is supposed to be left handed, dammit.

Anyway, don't feel like you're missing out all that much. Outside of a few really good games, the Wii can be a disappointment. If those select games keep you entertained, then go for it.

Okay, since you're asking for ALL opinions, I will give you mine of the Nintendo Wii.

Short answer: Don't get the Wii, it will just sit collecting dust like your 360.

Long answer: I do not suggest that you get a Wii. It only has a handful of decent games, the rest are shovelware trash that's trying to pick the pockets of ignorant parents. All of the people I know who have a wii say it's great for a little bit, amazing in fact. But after a while, they realize that the wii isn't really that great, and they tell me that it just sits in their room collecting dust now. The games you listed may be great games, but they're only going to provide limited entertainment. Eventually, the fun value is going to dry up. Most of the games are party games too, which means they aren't too fun by yourself =\. In all honesty, if you're 360 is just sitting around collecting dust, the Wii will be joining it after a few months.

(This is all my opinion btw, a lot of people will say the exact opposite of what I think. Oh, and Okami came out on the PS2 first and is a lot better than the Wii version >.>. Also I really liked Paper Mario 64 too :D)

Between my PC and the Wii, I'm a happy camper.

That being said, Okami is a port of a PS2 game, Mario Party has been done like 3 times on every console since the N64 (and Mario Party 8 was nothing all that special, wait for the next one that starts on the Wii from the ground up), as has Mario Kart.

Twilight Princess... eh, I don't think either version is all that much better than the other, although at times the Wii version is pretty meh (fishing, and also a few things near the end). Twilight Princess is somewhat meh all around in my opinion, although mechanically it is great.

If you feel like you want to play more Animal Crossing, from what I've seen it looks good. But I don't know how anyone could want more Animal Crossing after finally paying off that jerk Tom Nook.

Super Paper Mario... I liked it, but I think I enjoyed Paper Mario: TTYD more. It's interesting to say the least, but it is deviation from the Paper Mario norm (and also the Mario and Luigi series for the GBA/DS). And I'm not sure if it was a good one.

Super Mario Galaxy is definitely awesome and an amazing game. I just wish parts of it were harder and other parts were easier (ie, the last few stars).

Other games worth mentioning: Metroid Prime 3... good, but hard (I still haven't beaten it), and WiiFit (it's good motivation to exercise). Also Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is pretty much the best version of RE4 period.

It sounds like the Wii might be the system for you But I wouldn't be expecting a "revolution" from it. Although Wii Sports is still fun every now and then. :>

Brawl is the only decent game for Wii, and even that's overshadowed by Melee.

My roommate has a wii and the only reason I put time into playing it was Megaman 9. Mario Galaxy was sort of fun but not worth playing through, and I liked Twilight Princess' controls a lot more on gamecube. Brawl and Mario Kart are fine but I don't have a reason to play them over their earlier renditions on other systems.

I don't know anyone who has a wii who plays it with any regularity. My friends only bust theirs out if we need to kill time between a bunch of people and/or we're drunk and bored.

same, since I have a 360 the only time I use the wii is when I want to play dr. mario rx :/

if you find the 360 game library disappointing, do not go buy a wii it's a lot worse. It'll last maybe a month then it'll become a dust collector

It really depends on the type of gamer you are... I love the 360, PS3, and the Wii, but the Wii is the only one of those systems that is moving forward.

To quote Will Wright: "The only next gen system I've seen is the Wii – the PS3 and the Xbox 360 feel like better versions of the last, but pretty much the same game with incremental improvement. But the Wii feels like a major jump – not that the graphics are more powerful, but that it hits a completely different demographic."

wii is awesome for parties and stuff. For solo gaming it gets old fast but man I could play all day with friends in different games.

I find I use mine for a while hardcore then it sits for a couple months then when ppl come over again I get back into it and repeat the cycle.

I haven't touched the Wii in such a long time. I have Mario Galaxy, Zelda, Smash Bros. and Paper Mario. I've beaten them all and the only one I touch is Smash Bros. if some friends come over; but even then we usually want to play Gears of War or Call of Duty. There are so few good games coming out for it. If you haven't bought one yet, it MIGHT be time, since you can play the Mario's/ Zelda/ Smash bros. etc. After that though, there isn't ANYTHING coming out that is must play.

Long story short; I regret buying it. I consider it a gimmick console.

I've had my xbox360 for about 1½ month now. I've played through most of the games I have, some are pretty hard and requires shitloads of time to play through, but yeah some are also extremly short and not worth their value in cash.

I use my 360 for loads of other things though, I have it connected with my PC, so I can basically watch all my series / movies through the television. I can also play whatever music I like while playing my games, which is awesome ;O!

Only reason I'd ever want a Wii is to play SSMB or Mario Kart. Nothing else. The whole unique controller system isn't very appealing to me.
