I'm dreaming of a laaaaame xmas

xmas is so lame here. Every year my mom will preface her statement by explaining that she's not born in North America and therefore not good at buying presents (wtf #1) and then says something lame like "we raised you and paid for your shelter/food for the last 18 years that's good enough right? (wtf #2). Same shit happens for my birthday too (wtf #3), which tilts me a little because I never get anything for putting up with the shit she gives me (not physical shit, shit like yelling at me and whatever). I won't lie, I get a little jealous this year because I always see all these awesome presents everyone else gets and how thoughtful their gifts are and how thoughtful they are when buying gifts. It makes me a little sad, to be honest.

It's still not Christmas here. But it's not like any other day at my house, so whatever.

I like having blogs with more content, but I just can't pull myself to it today. As many have pointed out, Christmas is most definitely not about the presents, but the whole atmosphere of being together and happy makes be sad, because it's not the case at my house.

Upon further reflection, maybe it's because my father won't be here this Christmas. He's currently en route to Malaysia to see my sick grandmother. She is diabetic and anemic, and most recently she was diagnosed with cancer. I don't get along with my mother very well, and dealing with post-wisdom teeth has been hell for the last week or so. (She's the only one in the house apart from me.)

My sister and her boyfriend will be here in about 12 hours, so that's an upside. I haven't seen them in months, although we all live away from home in the same city.

Anyway, don't let me get you down, have a very merry Christmas!

I think you've got the meaning of Christmas and its significance a little skewed. Not to be rude, but rooting Christmas around what you receive or do not receive is very selfish. Your opening post comes across very juvenile to say the least.

Christmas is in some sense what you make of it. Maybe your waiting for the others to make it special, i suggest you to take the initiative.

I'd feel pretty bad if someone spent a bunch of money on stuff I didn't really need in this economy.

imo at an older age - presents don't matter at all, when you're older you'll appreciate coming together rather than the gifts, try to have a nice day

Same

I never really liked Christmas that much anyway to be honest. Not because I'm a Scrooge but it's just that time of year and when you're already piss poor.. the idea of spending money you don't have is kinda errrrr. Of course you don't have to spend money but if you don't you feel kinda left out of the tradition.

Christmas music fucking sucks too, hate that shit.

i even tried, bought presents for everyone and got nothing in return. it's all fake. my parents are cold.

they even congratulated on my 22 birthday via a sms message.

can't wait until it ends.

Christmas has always been about presents and food for me.
And the rest of my family.

My parents always buy me nice presents, same goes for my grandparents, and my brother and I buy a lot of nice stuff for them..

Your mom sounds like an asshole tbh, no offence.

I was told this once thanks to a case of PMS... My response was something on the likes of "If you are gonna complain about how much it takes to maintain children, why the fuck did you have them on the first place? its your choice and you have to fucking deal with it, and stop whining like a little girl." I got a slap on the face, but I also got a MacBook Pro for it.

Boo Hoo.

I had no presents at all, and I couldn't see anyone from my family (with usually strong christmas traditions). And still I am having an awesome time, spending time with my gf and eating all the food I cooked myself.

You just need to stop being a kid and learn to enjoy the moment and what have you got at hand. Its so easy to find the downside in everything

My family doesnt celebrate christmas with presents and we havent celebrated sinterklaas since I turned 8 or so. All I get for my birthday is 100 euro and a handshake, I've never complained to my parents, nor thought less of them for it, don't be a stupid brat.
