For 65 bucks including 2 controllers, 2 memory cards, final fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, and Final Fantasy XII from my friend Lee (who wanted to make some quick cash).
However, I was wondering if there is any way to get my new (old lol) ps2 hooked up to my 19inch lcd digital display? (My family owns a television, but it is not located in my room, and since my house is small, I'm afraid that my family would be distracted by me gaming in the living room). Various internet sources have suggested two viable options; component cables or getting a tv-tuner for your PC. Since I don't have either option and since I am hesitant into jumping into something without prior experience, I was hoping that readers who have a similar setup would be able to suggest a product that would do the trick for me. Thanks, and I can't wait to play some Final Fantasy.Last edit: 2009-02-12 09:21:03

FFX is a great game. Best one out of all the FF series imo, it has such a compelling story. X2 and XII didn't appeal too much to me however.
As for your question, if your graphics card has the RYW plugs, it could be possible, however, I know of no other way to play on a monitor without a TV card or a VGA box.
Also, you are really lucky to get all that for 65 dollars, its probably worth more than that if you trade it in to a store, you should keep it in mind. Your friend probably needs cash for street fighter 4 I bet.

Agreed. Final Fantasy X-2 had some nice features (Mainly the job change mid-battle was an interesting aspect that I would have like seen carried over to other titles as well.), but all that aside the game itself is heavily geared towards a female audience and unless you're a girl, die hard FF fan or not; be warned.
Grats on your PS2! have some fun, man. |

You should have done this 9 years ago when the ps2 came out.
Jkjk, and FFX is beast, X-2 is hard to play through if your not a hardcore FF fan(which i'm not, which is why i haven't beat it yet lol) or your not really intersted in the story. Mostly motivational things lol. |

| Be careful with the converters. They can introduce pretty annoying lag. If your display has any sort of component inputs/S-video I would definitely use them. |

Just get a CRT TV with Component input. Shouldn't be too expensive these days.
I honestly thought FFX' story sucked massive anus. The sphere grid system was really good though IMO. Also, PS2s are still great for fighting games. |

He got a PS2, Smash won't work.
However, PS2 is awesome to have because all the Rock Band / Guitar Hero games and equipment are going down in price now that PS3 is out. So if you're into those rhythm games, score!

I thought Smash worked on that? Maybe that was my friend's GameCube... Oh well.
Get Star Ocean then and get ready to devote your life to it. |

| PS2 has no good games aside from FFX that are exclusive to it. I pretty much never use my PS2 nowadays, but when I do it's only to play old PS1 RPGs. By the way, if you like old-school RPGs like Final Fantasy 1-10, get Grandia for PS1. Game is so awesome (and hilarious). >_< |

Wow, you got yourself a great deal! Now go sell everything and buy a ps3 :D! lol jk You're going to need component cables, provided your TV has plugs for them (I believe the colors are usually blue, green, and red?) or composite cables (red, yellow, white, but red isn't technically needed so it's okay if its not there). Obv, it's color to color when you plug them in. Try to find an emtpy slot such as Video 1, Video 2, or a Game channel if you have one. Most Ps2 games can't output HD, so HDMI cable isn't really worth it (does the ps2 even have an HDMI plug?) Composite cables are around $15 and component cables are like $20-30.
As for your gaming bothering your family, just don't play with the sound up too high ;] |
