I want to use my computer as a Video/Sound Hub

Forum index > Blogs

I don't know if Video/Sound hub is the right term. What I want to do is Connect my ps3 to my computer, then connect my computer to my monitor and have the ps3 video show up on the monitor and the sound go through the computer.

Is this possible?

If so how?

P.S. The reason I want to do this is because my monitor doesn't have speakers and I don't have any usb headsets, only headsets with audio out/in cables which the ps3 doesn't support.

I wouldn't count on it, don't get your hopes up. Just get a USB headset.

I am getting a megalodon when it comes out so I guess I just have to use subtitles for the time being.

Look at your computer for what kind of video/audio inputs are available.
Get the appropriate converters for hdmi / rca cables.

You can use a TV capture card, the kind of thing that lets you watch TV on your computer. Those usually accept different types of inputs. For example, my brother used to hook PS2 and GC (and SNES IIRC with some adapters I'm sure) to his computer through S-Video to the card. You can record video/audio of games this way.

edit: so I think modern capture cards would probably have HDMI inputs...but it seems if you didn't already get some adapters to work with your current setup, you might not be willing to buy something as expensive as a capture card.

edit2: hm, seems HDMI of course is huge data rate and generally not supported, but cards with just analog input wouldn't be too expensive

edit3: Now that I remember, I think all it might require is hooking the PS3 video out to your monitor and then the sound out to your speakers. Buy adapters as needed for that.

Yeah, it is possible, using a capture card for sound and a HDMI compatible monitor or a VGA adapter.
