This. Generally when they say pro-gear, they mean at least a mid-range priced guitar ($400+) with a 100 watt amp head (solid state, you could get away with less power if it's a tube amp of course) and 4x12 speaker cab, or something similar. Some may expect you to have at least a minimal collection of pedals, but that's debatable.
Edit: Of course, you can take my word with a grain of salt. The most I've been in was a few garage bands and a few random jam sessions, never been with a regular gigging band that required that kind of equipment.
