What does "pro gear" mean?? =]

I've been searching through ads on bands looking for new members and they always say pro gear.

Does that mean as a guitarist, I must have a guitar that is worth $2000 and an amp worth $1000 and a shit load of pedals?

Anyone in here play music seriously or in a band.
What is the cut off mark for shitty gear and pro gear!!??

=) thanks

I don't think it's about money as much as it is about good tone and being loud enough. Obviously a 15 watt solid state isn't going to cut it.

This. Generally when they say pro-gear, they mean at least a mid-range priced guitar ($400+) with a 100 watt amp head (solid state, you could get away with less power if it's a tube amp of course) and 4x12 speaker cab, or something similar. Some may expect you to have at least a minimal collection of pedals, but that's debatable.

Edit: Of course, you can take my word with a grain of salt. The most I've been in was a few garage bands and a few random jam sessions, never been with a regular gigging band that required that kind of equipment. This is based purely off of what I've seen from a few local bands.

From what i have come to understand Pro-Gear are exact replica's of famous artists instruments. For example a replica of a Jimmy Page Double neck. It's not worth it, just for old dudes with money who want to mimic their idols.

Pro gear is gear which you can take to a club to perform on. Many clubs don't have amps, so you have to bring them yourself. This is what they refer to.

So when you have pro gear, you are not dependend on the gear of the club, you have your own gig-worthy gear.

Everyone here except for Navane is wrong.

Listen to Navane.

When they say that, they simply expect you to be able to perform with your own equipment.

That does entail a guitar that doesn't sound like a shit, a decent amp that doesn't sound like shit, and whatever pedals you need so you don't sound like shit.
