you can take a one day trip to macau (portugese egg tarts ftw) or shenzhen while you're in hk =P
standard tourist/shopping places include TST, mongkok's langham place, time's square/causeaway bay and of course the bar/club district at Lan Kwai Fong (a bit $$ tho)Last edit: 2009-07-14 17:02:01 |

Listen to fOrQQ, he gave me awesome advice last time :D
Also, you should check out temple street at night, they have a bunch of street vendors... although I don't know how much you'd enjoy it if you don't speak Chinese (we had trouble even though we spoke Mandarin... but not nearly as bad as the white dude sitting across from us, which I eventually had to help). |

Last time I went to HK, I stayed at a hotel like 5 minutes away from the HK Intercontinental Hotel Forgot the name because it was so long ago |

i don't really recommend taxis since it can get quite expensive depending on your location and destination (ie. if you're living in the Hong Kong island side and going to Kowloon/New Territory side) due to tunnel fares and MAJOR traffic jams throughout the day.
if you're going anywhere, its really going to be by MTR (subway) or KCR (train in Kowloon/New Territory side). honestly, its damn near impossible to get lost by MTR since everything is translated into english, and the places i listed above are basically right above their respective stations in the MTR (aside from macau or shenzhen of course) |

Macau = not possible with taxi, because its an island Shenzhen = not possible with taxi, because its actually a place in china near the border of hong kong Mong kok = possible with taxi, but really depends off where you live |

Oh yea, there is a place i absolutely have to recommend you to go eat at:
Din Tai Fung (鼎泰豐) at Tsim Sha Tsui Silvercord Plaza- I'll c&p what I wrote before at some other blog- award winning restaurant that is famous for Shanghai-style dumplings and ramen. Prepare to wait 1hr+ to get a seat, esp. at peak times, but it is hands-down the best place to eat dumplings.
I have not eaten better dumplings and beef ramen in HK in my life than at that place. |

Spent a weekend in HK last month, well I mainly went for shopping....
Go to Lian Xiang Lou (蓮香樓) if you want to try some Cantonese morning tea/breakfast. It's at No.160 Wellintong St., HK Island. Get out from metro station Sheung Wan you will quickly find it. My HK friend told me it's the oldest one and hell yeah it's great and cheap! We 3 buddies ordering more than 10 dishes is like HK$200.
Get there early, it opens at 6am. If you arrive later than 8am you may have a hard time to find a seat.

PS, there is a local supermarket brand called C!ity Super in Harbor City near Tsim Sha Tsui. Good for cute/exported food purchase. |

Hey, I was there. That place is really close to the hotel where I lived.
It's a restaurant that caters to HK residents (rather than tourists) in that you really have to fight (almost literally) the other customers for the good dishes! |
