So as of now I have played roughly 400 games on iCCup (cant wait in the next few months to play 1000 games so I can finally fulfill the advice that alot of people give out ) To be honest I am probably a solid D+ player right now, but I'm having this mental block where I am do not think I am ready to start playing D+ players. I can fairly easily reach D+ within 15 to 20 games on iCCup but once I do that I usually just switch back to a different account and get to D+ again. This is mainly because I can't beat a terran army once late game occurs and I have a rough time against zerg in general. I am very confident in my PvP though which is probably because it was the first match up I practiced on iCCup and have probably played 200 games of PvP out of the 400.

PvP

I was having alot of trouble when I started playing Destination since it was the MOTW. I then studied alot of Destination VODs and found that most progammers go for a fast expo when they have about 2 zealots and 3 to 5 dragoons. I just copied this opening and my PvP win rate has dramatically increased because of it. I just follow it up with observers, get a forge with +1 attack going, and then tech to Templar tech and get templar with storm ASAP. Seems to be working out great. I've also been putting four dragoons in the back of base in case of reaver harass and I place a observer/probe outside my opponents natural. That way, when I know he is moving out, I just bring the dragoons back to my main army.

I think alot of D Protoss players (probably the vast majority of D players in general) do not realize that some strategies work alot better then others on certain maps. Most protosses just do a plain reaver build or the bisu build (yes there is the PvP bisu build)and dont realize that on Destination your opponent is able to easily defend against reaver builds because of those two bridge that force dragoons to go one by one.

PvT

I have not studied his match up as much as PvP or PvZ, so I usually get crushed in the mid to late game. This is the match up I will be studying now, since I have basically gotten all my wins from the 10/15 rush. However, when I did the 10/15 build on Tau Cross it seemed to be too big of a map to use the build on. Anybody care to tell me whether I am right or wrong?

PvZ

I tried to do the speedlot archon push but it seems like my timing is always off on this build so I am going to have to practice it alot. I decided to try and use the +1 speedlot push since it is pretty suitable for my 130 apm since I can't constantly watch my DTs and corsairs without have no macro. I think out of the four to five games that I have used this build I have won all of them from either my initial push or being able to snipe the third hatchery and then run home, get alot of goons, get storm with observers and crush the zerg with my second push.

iCCup Complaint

I hate when somebody joins your game and is like:

Somenoob: hi
Somenoob go
Somenoob: ??

within the course of less then 5 seconds before they have picked their race. ITS LIKE JESUS SLOW THE FUCK DOWN YOU JUST JOINED!!!! This and people constantly asking "from?" in every single game pisses me off alot, its just so annoying. Other then that iCCup is awesome except for some of their admins being less then ideal.

Just out of curiosity has anybody done the same thing where they get to a new rank but instead of laddering at that rank switch to another account and then get that same rank again? I've probably gotten to D+ four or five times but I have not laddered on that rank at all.

i love it to see when people say they massed a lot of games, cuz then when people go through the effort to give a mass gamer tips the tip giver knows that the mass gamer will consider it and take it seriously, as opposed to someone that asks for help when they've only played 20 games this season.

And Yeah 10/15 gate does work pretty often on Tau, but thats assuming terran can't micro his rines/tanks.

I've been a victim of this for 3-4 seasons, i got C+ all the time but never played on that account cuz i was too pussy. But once you play on it ONCE, you'll gain the confidence to play on it again EVEN IF YOU DO LOSE. Its like stepping outta your comfortzone, once you get out it's all fine.

personally I cant stand when people say "gg" before the start of the game. The CORRECT phrase is good luck, not good game. The game hasn't been played yet, how do you now its good? :@

TT, I do that. I like knowing where my opponent is from and sometimes asking them a few questions about their country.

The reason I hate it is because most of the time it feels like people are just trying to dodge Koreans.

Yeah, I think I am in the same position as you here. I started my first account this season and went 15-5 getting D+ really easily. Than I thought I was not good enough so I made a new account and went 12-2 getting D+ again.

So right now I am not sure what my skill level is so I just play people around the D- / D / D+ level.

Also, I am the same as you as I am most confident in my PvP, then PvT, then PvZ.

I think I might have seen you on Iccup before as well, is your account name like flowofsoul1 or something?

i do that all the time. I feel lame for doing it but I'm simply not good enough to play at higher levels. I basically get d+, play a few d+ games, lose, then stop playing so my rank doesn't fall below d+. it doesn't foster improvement at all but i am just too afraid of losing, ha ha. i guess it's a thing we gotta fix.

I agree with that. Just let you where you from + gg/gl before the match start. During the game, don't speak. Just focus. Like pro!

do you play starcraft or only watch / follow the pro scene? (curious)

Also, for the OP. You do realize that the whole point of the iccup ladder is to have a place to practice, where players can be catagorized into different skill gaps (rank letters) to allow for the best practice. Hiding from that really makes playing iccup futile, because you are essentially giving up on practicing. As you improve you NEED to be playing players better than you. If you continue to get to D+ (very low rank btw) and then restart, you will never get anywhere beyond where you are right now.

I mean, its not like anyone is watching your account , ready to bash on you the minute you lose. Losing is more common in SC than winning is, unless you are Flash or Jaedong. Bolstering a 50/50 record is something to be proud of. At D+ you only need to win 40%of your games to advance. So if you go 4-10 you are still gaining points. With that said, I highly suggest you get over your phobias (of a video game lol) and start practicing against the next tier of players, otherwise forever be stuck seeing red. Goodluck!

Yes, everyone suffers from this. As YangPang said, it's a comfort zone thing, and the only way you're going to improve is if you find better opponents and see what they play like. Fix your rating-oriented mindset and avoid picking fights with someone with 2051 points named noobie2003. Don't dodge the people with 2500 (or a multiple of 10) or 2999 points, or whose names are rkdehrud or LeeJaeDong. Play with the mindset that even if you fall out of D+, you'll be able to win it back with ease, and don't wait in op irc checking people's profiles until you find a 8-13 1400 player and message him for a friendly game. Above all, resist the urge to make a new account and play on it. Sure, you're going to get back to your target rank with a nearly 100% win ratio, but it's only solidifying your versus-newbie-playstyle. And, at the end of the day, when you're 43-62 2773 D+, you'll finally be able to say "I'm a solid D+, and not D+ max." Hell you'll even be able to extrapolate to C- max, which you'll probably hit anyways with a good streak.

EDIT: Oh, and congratulations.
