The first stage of free agency negotiations has concluded. Hyun, Go.go, Jaedong, and Midas are the four players purusing free agency and a possible move to a new team. Further information regarding the four players purusing free agency will appear in the next five to six days. Refer to this thread for information on the entire process.
Due to worsening carpal tunnel syndrome, GGPlay has decided to retire. He said "I decided to retire a few days ago, but now that I've made the announcement official, it's starting to hit me: 'I'm retired.' My wrist was in bad shape, so I had no choice but to retire. It was a form of carpal tunnel syndrome, and it would have taken 6 months for it to completely heal. I wouldn't have a chance of catching up to the other gamers after that kind of time off. Right now I can handle a single match, but not repeated games or practice."
When asked about his future plans GGPlay said "First I'll take care of my military service, and I'll think about what to do after that. I haven't gotten called up yet, but I've decided to apply."
According to an unnamed source from OZ (remember this is OZ's version), Jaedong wanted to stay with OZ, but there his parents had some disagreement with the team. The source also revealed that they would offer JD the same contract if he failed to sign with another team.
According to Jaedong's mother, Mrs. Kim Myung-Ae: "Alongside being unable to come to terms on pay, I just couldn't bear to see him to see him taking on the load (of the team) alone." In addition: "During the FA period, Jaedong himself wanted to stay on his team. But it was really hard as a parent to always have to see him so tired and overworked for the last year and a half."
Jaedong, born on January 9th, 1990, is not yet 20 years of age. According to the FA regulations, he requires the permission of his parents to sign a contract.
Mrs. Kim also said "We're very thankful to coach Cho for making Jaedong the best player. But I still want to see him play in a better environement."
OZ is said to have offered Jaedong 140,000,000 won in base salary, with bonuses up to 60,000,000 won. Jaedong's mother is said to have requested a base salary in the region of of 180,000,000 won and/or triple his previous salary.
As a player who was previous under the 50,000,000 won cap, it was expected that Calm would receive quite a bit of attention. STX retained him at a much improved salary of about 130,000,000 won a year (with various bonuses etc included). This could rise to 150,000,000 won if he earns maximum bonuses for league victories.
Kal and Hwasin are said to have re-signed for total salaries in the region of 100,000,000 won, while JulyZerg has also re-signed for an unknown sum.
Wemade FOX finished up negotiations before the beginning of Blizzcon. While specific figures were not revealed, it is said that Nada took a pay cut, and Mind received a pay raise according to their recent performances. I'm pretty sure this article is wrong, and that Mind also took a pay reduction. I'm fairly certain he was making more than 60,000,000 won already. Can someone confirm?
Fomos reports that Nada has re-signed for a salary of 110,000,000 won, with a maximum of 30,000,000 in bonuses. Mind re-signed for 60,000,000 won, with bonuses possibly reaching 100,000,000 won.
Coach Lee stated: "Both players are determined to end their careers at Woongjin and did not declare free agency. And so, we head into preparation for the 09-10 season.
As a note, MBCGame declared they would be fully disclosing the salaries of players involved in free agency period. Salaries for re-signed players are as follows:
Sea: 75,000,000 won (Down from 80,000,000 won last season). Light: 70,000,000 won Pusan: 45,000,000 won (down from 77,000,000 won) Saint: 30,000,000 won
Hyun refused an offer of 20,000,000 won (down from 24,000,000) to seek better opportunities. All of the players can earn a variety of bonuses for performances.
Magic, SangHo, Tester all agreed to new contracts with Estro. According to sources, Tester was re-signed rather easily due to the team offering him a satisfactory contract due to his important dual position as a coach and player. However, upmagic and sangho are said to have been much more difficult to sign. Both players were underneath the 50,000,000 won cap, available for other teams to sign without any repayment fees. A few teams supposedly contacted these two players before the official negotiation period (frowned upon by Kespa, but they have no specific penalties against it as of yet). Negotiations were not settled until Thursday morning, right before upmagic's WCG qualifying match.

Excpect his MSL and OSL achievements before, if we check recent results : 2nd place @ Blizzcon, 2nd place @ e-stars Seoul .... but in MSL and OSL he didn't do well... TT
I can't be sure without transparent salaries for every player, but looks like the big story of the FA period so far is "how the hell are Kal and Hwasin getting so overpaid?"
Funny how if FA was a year or two ago, Hwasin and Kal would be more payed than Calm. I guess STX recognize they can build a winning team around him rather than Kal/Hwasin.
I hope Bisu doesn't go to CJ, it would make CJ too stupid strong to retain its perpetual underdog appeal. I mean they'll have the top protoss+3rd/4th best terrans+2nd best zerg: Bisu/Iris/sKyHigh/EffOrt would be unstoppable.
No further details. Though the wording seems to suggest they are just working out details with Jaedong.
LOL at JD "...negotiations with Jaedong". I can guess how much his salaray will be with Hwaseung if he stays htere "Hey coach, I brought your team everywhere because of my imba ZvZ, give me more!"
Semi-hoping they sign go.go though. Even besides the fact that Khan needs a terran, he and FBH together ensures that there's at least some BM every match.

The difference between CJ fans and regular fans is that CJ fans actually believe they are underdogs in some way or form.
The rest of TL.net hating you does not make you underdogs ^_^

T1 / KTF probably. Well at least they are those who have invested the most thus far, but there are other teams that are owned by pretty rich corporations (although that doesn't mean they'd be willing to spend as much of course)

Yeah, CJ is huge, but Carnac said. it's who's willing to spend the most.
Not to imply something that might not be the case, but I had this thought in mind before Jaedong announced free agency.
The head of Kespa is related to SKT1, right? Not necessarily overseeing the management of the team or whatever, but he is at least somehow involved with the team, I believe.
SKT1 may not be the richest, but they're willing to spend a lot to get what they want.
Pretty much everyone here agrees that the rule of a player going to a team who offers the most is the worst rule in existence.
Do you think that the higher ups of Kespa created the rule with such a thing in mind?

On the other hand what's wrong with Jaedong trying to make as much money from his talent as he possibly can? It's not like he's going to be able to play at the highest level for many more years, no one can.
This is payback to OZ's coach for letting Anytime and fOrGG leave, giving Jaedong an awful lot of pressure and no decent practice partner. I can see SKT selling Bisu to CJ to buy Jaedong. KT [insert a lame team name here] is an underdog for Jaedong I think, as it is pretty much Flash and chumps, and I think JD is looking for more practice partners and potential aces.

Samsung?
Samsung's never been known to spend money. As said, KT and T1 are the two teams that have a history of just buying players left and right. So it's expected that they'll be throwing the most cash around.
Personally hoping Jaedong goes to KT. This way will keep the PL the most balanced.

Jaedong to KT PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSE. Omfg we would actually win something. Although.. . I would feel bad for Hoejja/815/Firefist... having to stand behind Jaedong/Lux.
I wonder if Jaedongs decision to leave Oz has as much (maybe even more) to do with the lack of backup he gets from his team as it has to do with money. He's been working himself raw lately, trying to carry his team as well as playing in the individual leagues. He's got to be thinking that if he joins a stronger team like SKT or KT, then he'd have someone to split ace duty with and his team would stand a good chance of winning ProLeague without him performing at 120% every time. This in turn would give him more time to practice for individual leagues next time around and gives him a better chance at winning more OSL/MSL gold. Just a thought.
Not really surprised at Midas seeking a new team, this was already theorized by a few people in the old thread and it does make a whole lot of sense. Too bad though, I loved him (even if he did nothing lately, he didn't even get to play -.-)

I mean seriously how epic would SKT v KT become again if JD went to KT?
Fantasy/Bisu/BeSt v Jaedong/Flash/Lux omg that would be sick. The rivalries between the players... ahhh. Both would be killing PL.. although I could see the OSL double curse hitting JD once he goes to KT -_-;;;;;
On the other hand..
If SKT gets Jaedong imba.. If Khan gets Jaedong it's pretty fair.. uhhh... I don't think anyone else would shell out for it.

I wonder if WeMade is a viable alternative - they didn't appear shy to spend money in order to boost their lineup, e.g. when signing Nada or Moon in Wc3.

Isn't WeMade considering pulling sponsorship from BW if Avalon doesn't succeed. I forgot where I heard that though...

This is really win-win for Jaedong. I'm certain Hwaseung already made a really good bid. With the way the system works (thanks Kespa for being fucking stupid) he'd normally have to renegotiate with his old team if he didn't sign with a new one, but the old team would have all the trump cards and could basically resign him for free, because otherwise he'd end up as semi-pro for the time being, lol. Now, if this offer by Hwaseung is true it gives him a pretty sound security net.

There's no way Jaedong isn't getting signed with another team at this point, I'd think. However, that's pretty cool of them, seeing as if he somehow wasn't signed, they could completely ream him contract wise.

If what he said it's true (I'm talking about the person who said the rumou abotu that), the reason can be personal. He said "parents aren't gree with some things from Hwaseung". If it's true, we can understand his reasons to sign with another team.
I hope Jaedong heads to SKT. They need a more reliable zerg in the lineup than Hyuk and Fantasy/Jaedong/Bisu would be gg to every other team in proleague.

Would that really be all that fun to watch? Really it would be more fun if he balanced out another goodish team.
*REPAYMENT RULES* Teams that wish to acquire free agents must A) Repay 200% of the the progamer's annual salary to their original team, or B) Repay 100% of the progamer's annual salary to the original team, and give one player to the original team (excluding six players on their protected players list). Progamers who earn less than 50,000,000 Won a year are excluded from the repayment rule.
How does the protected players list work? Does the team choose 6 players to protect? Looks like Oz will be getting a new player soon. Who in the right mind will want to pay Oz 200% of Jaedong salary as well as paying Jaedong an increased salary as well...
I think Wemade do have a good chance of picking up JD, they've shown in the past how much they're willing to pay for players they want (see; nada & moon) and their zerg lineup isn't great, though I do love shine :3
I can't believe that Jaedong would want to leave Oz, he seems to have such a great relationship with the other players and the coaching staff. Gonna be sad to see him go to one of the other soul-less progaming teams. Parental pressure would make the most sense but that still blows for Jaedong (don't pretend whatever team signs him isn't going to ride as hard as he was on Oz, maybe they'll be less dependant but he'll still be playing the same ridiculous number of games)
What's Hwaseung without Jaedong? good call by Jaedong anyways, which ever team that he gets into, i just hope its not another one that depends their performance on just a single player. That guy is over over overworked...

yup similar to what Boxer's dad said about him and IS
I think this is the best news I could have hoped for for Jaedong.
I really hope the rumour that he wanted to stay with Oz is true because you have to respect that kind of loyalty even at his own expense, but I'm so glad he's going FA.
On the one hand I kinda want him to go to SKT so he can get the best practice partners.. on the other, having an (even more) massively stacked T1 would be kinda lame.

I remember this clearly. With boxer his father was angry with the lack of good protosses for Boxer to practice with. This was following his loss to reach in the OSL finals.
Sounds like JD's mom is pimping to me; honestly Jaedong is going to be playing the same ridiculous amount of games regardless of the team (maybe a few less ace matches at skt1) and even if the team isn't entirely dependent on JD it wouldn't matter, the dudes self motivated. There's no sleep for the best player in the world, but at least on Oz he's with friends and gets tons of attention from his coach
I'm curious to see how high the bidding goes for Jaedong. I still think Oz has a good chance to retain him. After all, they only have to pay 50.0001% of what any other club has to pay to out-bid them. Given that the player has no right but go to the highest bidder, Oz has a huge advantage in negotiations.

Concerning league appearances, Hwasin is still among the very best of the STX team: Making both MSL Ro16 AND OSL Ro16 is quite good. And he has been in the MSL Ro16 for how many times in a row before? Granted, he did not make it further this time, but still he is consistently playing in Starleagues.

And tossgirl is a glorified bw spokes model...
Don't compare her to hwasin please.
Look at it this way, without Hwasin, without Kal.. STX is pretty much fucked. There aint many decent players available out there in the open market, thus STX has to cherish the decent players they have unless they want those players to jump ship.

Are they really paying sea more? Light is the most consistent performer on MBC. Whenever I see the results page it's always mbc losing 1-3 with light having the only win and hyun, jaehoon and sea losing or something like that. That's so unfair!
That's one good mom. Hwaseung could attempt to buy someone really good instead of letting this happen.
I hope Jaedong does not go to SKT. Imagine what would happen if all the obnoxious Jaedong fanboys would join the obnoxious fanboys of Bisu and SKT. I'm ok with Jaedong on any other team though.
As a fan of T1, I also hope that Jaedong doesn't land on SKT. It wouldn't be fair for them to trot out a Fantasy/Jaedong/Bisu combo every game. It just wouldn't be fair at all. Plus, it'd just get worse during the playoffs and winners league. With insane depth, PL would just be boring as hell to watch.

i'd be excited for JD if he did go to T1, for the sake of starcraft, i wonder just how good JD could get if he had that kinda coaching/practice partners..
but for the PL... boring... and no more epic JD vs fantasy or JD vs bisu outside of the starleagues... would be a loss for sure.

fantasy would poison jaedong imo chemistry on that team would suck hard core.
Negotiation with current team will take place on August 12th through 20th. Other teams excluding current team will place bids between August 21st through 25th. Re-negotiation with current team will be from August 28th through 31st.
KT - Shine SKTelecom - Midas Hwaseung - Jaedong Samsung - none MBCGame - HyuN CJ - none Hite - go.go Estro - none STX - SoO (I think? Didn't see him mentioned in the op) WeMade - none Woongjin - none
That's not a whole lot of players... Jaedong is really the only very interesting one. I personally care about Midas, because he was once really fucking good, so I hope he gets a good team and shows us a bit of a resurgence. The other players are pretty meh. Shine joined KT not too long ago actually..., looks like another failed KT transfer to me.

First one's not happening. I hope OZ picks up another zerg now that Jaedong is departing.

What makes you so sure jaedong will leave oz? Keep in mind Oz has a huge advantage when it comes to contract negotiations thanks to kespa's fucked up rules.
Look, JaeDong has been so successful in Oz that I don't see any reason for him to switch teams. If anything he would go into a slump kinda like Bisu for a while when he moved to SKT1. And theres no telling if he can comeback like Bisu. Yes, hes the only good player on Oz but I believe that motivates him to practice more. Hes probably alot more comfortable in Oz too considering hes been there for so long. Apart from that hes considered a superstar because hes the only good player on Oz. I feel that JaeDong's parents are just being stupid and ungrateful. JaeDong moving to another team is as dumb as sAviOr moving out of CJ. It just doesn't suit them. Imagine seeing JaeDong in an MBCHero uniform.(which is probably the team that is most likely to sign him considering their abysmal performance after Bisu and July left and considering they are the second richest and accomplished team in the league)
As for the rest of the teams. I feel STX is paying a good price for all their players. Some people may think that Hwasin and Kal are overpaid but if you look at their results in the proleague they are a worthy investment especially Kal who has really good at PvT. Hwasin is a good zerg sniper and they have July to destroy protoss. If all else fails they have Calm. Hwasin is also very popular amongst fangirls so maybe his pay is for the marketing stuff too.
Im suprised that NaDa is still getting paid so much. I feel that Mind should be earning some of his money considering that Mind is the ace of WeMade right now.

Jaedong searching for another team? He sure carried the whole of OZ by himself, and deserves more rest, but still, it would be hard for me to get used to seeing him in another team. He was raised in OZ, and atm he is OZ. I can understand his mother's concerns though.

Well, the bidding period extends until after OSL finals, and I'm guessing that since it's JD's parents, and not JD himself that has a problem with Hwaseung, the team will still let him prepare for OSL with them and cheer him on until then.

Does this mean for sure that Jaedong is actually going to leave, or can Hwaseung still bid for him? If they can still bid for him, it might not mean Jaedong leaving, but rather that he gets the much higher salary that he deserves (from his mother's comments, it seems like they feel that he's being underpaid by Hwaseung).

Hwaseung made an offer (which I'm sure is pretty good) and apparently promised to resign Jaedong with these exact conditions (whatever they may be) in case he doesn't reach an agreement with a different team. They didn't have to do that; if a player doesn't reach an agreement with his original team before FA negotiations with other teams and doesn't get signed by a different team the old team can pretty much force the player to accept whatever contract, because otherwise he'd end up as non-contracted semi-pro and wouldn't be able to play any professional leagues. So for Jaedong it's pretty much win-win. He will either get a new team due to some sick offer or resign with Hwaseung after the FA negotiations under conditions which I am sure are better than his current ones.
guys money isn't the big thing with jaedong and Oz. his parents want him on a team that has some A class gamers on it that can carry the team with Jaedong. Not jaedong carry Oz and jaedong get tired out TT

Jaedong goes to SKT, there is no way he will be able to shine as a star. SKT1 has such a strong Terran heritage and an S-class Protoss. In having Fantasy, you can see how much screen time the rest of the players get. The more recent line-ups has been a Canata-Fantasy-Bisu locomotive that plows through every other line-up.
Best hardly gets any screen time and who can blame SKT? Best is not playing as well as he was at his peak.
Either zerg player SKT pays is fielded because it is mandatory to have every race represented. I still seriously think Hyuk's win against Jaedong was partly a fluke (one can argue that it was a build order loss, yada, but everyone knows Jaedong's capacity to neutralise the initial advantage with his drone micro).
Jaedong needs to shine. Comes from hauling Oz through every situation. Where else can he get the arrogance to make such remarks as "Week of Jaedong" (Even I thought this was ludicrous, but I'm a Fantasy fan.)
SKT1 will not offer him as much chances to shine as Oz did. Why? Because SKT fans will root for their favourite players. Jaedong won't be a necessity, but a luxury.

Agree completely. Jaedong didn't get where he is by sharing.
With too many egos, there would be far less pressure on Jaedong to perform. Less pressure, and he will get complacent.
With absolutely no backup whatsoever, of course, he could burn out. So don't send him to, say, MBC.

SKT has shown its bias for Terran time and again because Boxer and Iloveoov are there. No doubt they will put Jaedong in the lineup and sweep all the opponents, but what's the point? Where's the drama and tension?
Would you rather hear

@ STX Too bad go.go had to go, I think the STX quarterfinalists grew really close after knocking one another out in OSL.
There may be something to entering a team packed with talent like SKT leading to laziness, but CJ is probably the worst fit of the playoff contending teams. After the re-signing of Savior, CJ has three zergs that are proleague ready. With Jaedong that would be four, and if proleague rules remained the same they could only field 2 in the initial 4 games. Any team would be better with Jaedong, but CJ probably gains the least since they have the deepest zerg lineup.

I agree with what you just said, especially the part where Terran being the dominant force in SKT. However if JD ever comes to SKT, I'm pretty sure their line-up will be nothing else but Bisu/Fantasy/Jaedong (in no particular order). Unless Jaedong isn't in a good form, there is no way in hell SKT coach will leave him on the bench. Reasons are: 1. JD has a ridiculous winning rate. For SKT as a progaming team, I believe winning is the most important factor (hell, they even cheesed in the ace match of SPL Grand Finals .../sarcasm_off). I'm not saying Canata or Best aren't any good. They can win, sure, but JD fucking dominates! 2. If SKT ever to offer JD a contract, it'll be a huge one. Will SKT let their biggest investment (possibly) rotting on the bench? Doubt that. 3. JD has a huge fan base. 4. JD's mom will drop-kick the coach and rub his weiner on shattered glass if her son is not a regular (j/k).
I doubt even SKT are in position to get another highly paid super star. The perfect scenario for me is Bisu to ACE and JD to T1, but ofc this will never happen
If I took a wild guess and looked at every team out there, I would pick JD to end up at...
MBC?!?!?
Yeah. Look, MBC ain't that great. They've got a new star in Light, a fading one with time still left in Sea, a sometimes-decent Zerg in Saint, and a bunch of flukey Protosses. Even with all that, a little less fail from Sea after round 2 and MBC would have made the playoffs.
If they've got the money, adding Jaedong could make MBC a contender for #2 (after SKT still, probably). MBC coaching isn't Coach Cho, of course, but: Light is currently better than HiyA or Lomo - Sea and HiyA I'd put about equal right now, Lomo's still a wild card. Saint is worlds better than OZ's extra Zergs. Pusan and Jaehoon can probably shake out about equal with BackHo and the random tosses (although Perfectman?).
I'd actually say the same for WeMade, and the prospect of a team with Nada, Mind, and JD - and Baby?! - oh may. WeMade's Zergs are better than OZ's Terrans, although WeMade tosses... ugh.
Alternatively, OZ can go all-out for go.go - between HiyA, Lomo, and go.go, with Killer/ggaemo to spell JD once in a while and BackHo/??? to hold the toss line, I see a lot less pressure on JD like that.

my thoughts exactly.. considering how much another team would have to pay to get JD it doesn't even make sense to buy him. (200% to the team plus his salary on top of that)
SKT has too many large contracts, I don't think they can absorb another one. Nor am I convinced it makes sense to take on this extra cost, they are already the strongest team.
I think JD will either go to KTF or stay at Oz. I'd like to see him with Flash.

I want Jaedong on KTF... the two of them would be able to share carrying the load (seriously, both of them almost carried their respective teams, together they'd actually make the team pretty good), and it'd make both of them better; Flash has some strange issues (lack of good practice partners?) for his TvZ builds and Jaedong's worst matchup now is arguably ZvT. Perfect fit!

I don't see why combining flash's TvZ with "issues" and jaedong's "arguably worst mu ZvT" would help them. Wouldn't it be better if they did not share worst mu?
there are two teams who can afford paying big ammounts of money for a player: KT and SKT. I would be really dissapointed if he goes to KT, where are 3 players I dislike. Anyways, if he changes team (even if that is SKT) i will remove my team sign and wont replace it.

They've got some issues but Flash' issues look more like lack of polish (messed-up turret timing cost him against Kwanro, I can only speculate but it looked like his practice partners just screwed that up), and Jaedong's ZvT is his worst matchup statistically but it's still pretty dang good :p Practicing against each other would, at least theoretically, remove the lack of polish from Flash' builds and thus equate to them having to raise their levels of play against each other. After all, even though it's their statistically worst matchup it's not like they're shabby at it, they're just so freakin good at the others.
The only thing I care about right now is that at the end of this FA period Midas is on a team where he can see playing time. Midas to Woongjin! Free Jun Sang Wook!
JD should go and join KTF, then they can rename the team into "KT FlashandJaedongowningeverybody(psbisusucks)"
Seriously though JD and Flash could split Ace duties, which would be great for both of them, they're basically the two most overworked progamers in the game right now.
Still I wouldn't mind JD staying with OZ after all, I'd feel pretty bad for them if they'd lose their main player. Though I'm glad that it seems like they'll split on good terms, if they do.

JD should either go to Khan, KTF, Hite or ACE lol. CJ already has a strong Zerg, SKT1 having JD = imba, STX already has good Zergs, MBCHero/Estro/Fox will make JD carry the team for the most part, again. I also don't think SKT1 should sign JD because Fantasy probably hates JD's guts
I feel bad for the zerg lineup of whatever team gets Jaedong. They'll get completely overshadowed and fade into obscurity. Hopefully he'll go to a team with zergs nobody cares about.
Then again he could always join ACE with the other manly men

Jaedong in Samsung would be totally awesome... I know January has singled out Jaedong as the player she'd most like to coach, so hopefully they'll at least take a shot at it. That would definitely be a big boost for Samsung's Zerg lineup (read: by.great), and the team as a whole.
Jaedong at SKT1, on the other hand, would simply be obscene; they've already got Bisu, Best, and Fantasy, for cheese's sake! Just because their daddy runs KESPA doesn't mean that they should get all the cool toys...:7

Yes yes, i remember a while back when january said that.. imo, when you think about it its almost like an open invitation to JD for him to join Samsung. Although we Khan fans can only dream though, I don't remember the last time Samsung purchased a player, plus when you think how much they have to pay Stork and Jangbi, I doubt they could afford another high salary player.

yeah you are right i guess... but i dont see why Midas would switch teams.. not SKT's problem that he is playing poorly.. or maybe it is. Generally it is the player's problem. Who knows.
I hope Midas finds a decent team and plays well again. Last year he played pretty good for a while and then started crashing again, wtf. Sad to see him leave SKT though.

I think the answer has been mentioned too many times in this thread... 1. Jaedong becomes super awesome due to perfect training partners. 2 .Proleague becomes shitty.

I love Khan and its players, I really do, however I don't think it's the best place for Jaedong. Khan has a very light training schedule and the team seems to have a lack of discipline.

Why is nobody discussing this?
Because if Jaedong does in fact switch teams the only thing OZ might get is a marginal player or some young player who they think may have a lot of potential. Either way there isn't much to speculate about, as we don't know much about how coaches view other teams mid to low level players in terms of talent.
I have mixed feelings about Jaedong joining Khan. Khan is special to me because they've always managed to be the best (or near the best) without a strong zerg lineup (SKT1 syndrome). To me, any team that gets Jaedong becomes ridiculously powerful. I like the balance of proleague the way it is and I hope that Jaedong stays with OZ.
For a conversion 100 million won is 60.000 euro / 85000 dollar which is 5.000 euro a month.
A person with a master degree earns around 1500 euro a month netto when he starts working. So even if the 5.000 drops to 3500 euro netto, the progamer still makes more then dubble the amount of money.
If jaedong goes to khan or skt, they'll be unstoppable with their only weakness covered. Well khan's terran players needs to shape up a bit.
Jaedong will probably go to a team without a good zerg.
CJ is not an option with effort, kwanro, and savior. KT is also not an option with luxury, firefist, and hoejja. Hite has type-b, yarnc, and hogil. Woongjin has ggplay and zero. Wemade has shine, roro, keke. STX has calm, july, hero. SKT has thezerg, hyuk. MBC has hyun, saint. Khan has great.
These are players that appear on proleague often. The worst zerg line up is probably
1.Khan 2.MBC 3.SKT
Khan and SKT already has pretty big contract so jaedong will probably go to MBC or back to oz.

Khan's playoff run was impressive, far better than anyone expected. Super ace match was an awesome game. Progamers are human. They can't practice hard all the time and it was said that jaedong shouldn't be carrying the team by himself. If he goes to khan, he'll be leading the team with the likes of jangbi and stork. Not to mention that Stork also had an interview a while ago where he talked about his WoW addiction.
Jaedong on any team that has feasible ACE players beside him would be fine. Khan, KT and SKT are likely the only ones who could afford him, though, afaik. The most mutually beneficial would be to Khan, because he could discipline them a bit more (the whole thing in R5 was they were the ones that were practicing the least and it pissed january off and thus we saw b teamers). KT and SKT wouldn't be as great, SKT already has a 4 person lineup that's really strong (Bisu, Best, Fantasy, Canata) and would really only want Jd as a token zerg. (Although he would probably benefit the most from this in individual leagues, as long as Bisu doesn't strangle him in his sleep or something).
KT just seems to make players horrible if they were good before coming.
Not only does it not make financial sense for JD to go to SKT, but it could ruin the atmosphere there too. Its tough to play teammates in individual leagues, since its hard to practice properly. Everybody gets secretive, there are camps rooting for different players, its just not healthy. Boxer admitted as much in interviews from his time on "stacked" teams.

TBH, wherever JD ends up he will probably be the go-to ace player. That is where the workload comes from. They only team I see that would genuinely cut down on his tiredness/playtime would be SKT1, otherwise, I don't see it becoming any better. I hope he stays with Oz.

Corrected.
I'd like to see Jaedong go to Woongjin- he'd make an underperforming team into a legit contender, and Woonglin's supporting cast is a little better than BackHo/Lomo/HiYa. He'd teach ZerO to ZvZ too.
But it seems most likely that Jaedong's best fit is at KT, where he'd have a co-star in the mold of SKT1. It'd add some interesting dynamics, with three teams with two aces; SKT1/KT/Khan and three teams with a lot of depth and balance: CJ/Hite/STX.
But I do wish for more parity.

CJ would axe his playing time too- they don't send the same players for ACE. But CJ does not need a third zerg, even if it's the best zerg in the world.

Is oz really so poor that they can't pay him a decent salary compared to other top players or are they just confident no other team is willing to spend enough to buy him out (twice his salary right?)?
Stacked teams suck because you never get to see their players facing each other in PL since they're in the same team. For this reason, I hope JD won't go to SKT (Bisu, Fantasy) nor to KT (Flash).
How fucking terrible would be a PL season without any JD/Bisu or JD/Fan or JD/Flash ace match?

I think it's due to NaDa being super popular despite not doing that great now days.
I'm wondering where all the Terrans are going to go to. Sparkyz could use a new Terran with Shine leaving and GoGo now leaving since it will now just be Leta and Justin. There is only one other Terran on the team Desire who has never played a single televised match. So I can easily see Midas joining or Shine rejoining which would be nice.
Jaedong will have to transfer to a team that is already stable, middle ranks or better which probably means no Estro or Wemade even if they could afford him.
Won't Jaedong just reject all offers and then start FA. After that he can sign much better deals if he is semi-pro status right? (no restrictions about double salary to hwaseung when transfer happens etc?)
On August 21 2009 05:38 checo wrote: JD at SKT... that would be like a total repe of PL next year... Bisu, fantasy, Jaedong, best, boxer on the line ups damn
Damnit why did Khan re-sign FBH... I'd rather have Go.Go or maybe even Midas. SKT1 won't get Jaedong, if they do, proleague is over and ratings will plummet and ESPORTS will fall apart. Samsung should ante up! They're the world's largest conglomerate for gosh sakes!
JD to MBC would be the only thing I'd be truly happy with... Realistically JD on KT seems the best option. Flash and Jaedong would both have a large weight lifted off their shoulders as they can release pressure off each other. They're both young and incredibly talented, it would be great.
My prediction is that Jaedong lands at Samsung KHAN or hite SPARKYZ. Samsung lacks a top-line zerg (no KHAN fans, great is not a top Line zerg) but has a very nice lineup overall. Jaedong would put them over the top and in a position to rival SKT1 for superiority, while Stork and JangBi would take some of the "ACE match pressure" off of Jaedong. Although hite already has a top Line zerg (YellOw[ArnC]), the "ace match bonjwa" (Leta) has been faltering lately, perhaps from the same type of pressure that has affected Jaedong this season. Both Jaedong and Leta would benefit from the transfer, plus if Horang2 continues to improve, it puts hite in a very good position with a good balanced lineup and two (possibly) dominant proleague players.
Considering that Hite has been letting players go for $$(Luxury/Shine)..It's unlikely imo that they would acquire a major player like Jaedong.. More likely is probably one of the big players throwing some cash around..Should be interesting forsure

Please be trolling :'( I know he's slumping bad and probably won't come back but he's my second favorite player after Stork because he looks like a girl I had a crush on...
I really hope he does not sign with SKT, it would just be so game breaking. I selfishly want him to end up at KT, but it seems like that could create the most compelling pro league rivalry ever. It seems like there is a good chance of KT putting up some major money, just look at the effort that has been going into branding and rebranding the team.
JD's switch to SKT1 or KT would just make PL boring to watch imho, the reason PL is so entertaining and the most important stage for any player is because of the competition and the hard work players put forth every match. Having a team that onesides everyone would kill that spirit of competition. And sure, JD's overworked but he's not the one who wants the switch, its his parents. I hope he stays with Oz though.

Same here, plus I feel like Jaedong ending up at KT would be a huge boon to Flash's individual league performances since he wouldn't have to focus so much on carrying the team.
And I think it would be better than him going to SKT because KT still has to deal with a weak protoss line (unless Violet manages to avoid sinking into mediocrity, which seems unlikely tbh) whereas SKT's biggest weakness was of course their weak zerg line, and they still managed to take first place and win the grand finals.
JD Khan JD Khan JD Khan JD Khan JD Khan JD Khan PLZ... Or maybe KT JD/Flash/Violet would be so awesome, he could be the new KT Zerg! And someone know what SKT pays to Bisu? or KT to Flash? Cus JD winning 140M won its bad =(

I hope SKT1 doesn't get JD because at least one of their big 3 will get lazy and slump terribly. I'm also thinking I hope Khan doesn't get JD because Stork would never have a reason to stop over-watching anime ever again. Go-go Estro - GosI[Flying] can take some of the ace load off for the Legend Killer.

I really doubt JD's parents refused to let him sign over his protests. It's just a really convenient way of refusing to sign without looking like the bad guy.
JD has seemed really stressed out lately. Dropping those PL finals games, and a ZvZ MSL semi were such remarkable under performances for him. Then he had to go to the hospital because he was so sick from over working. If in addition to that they offered him only 140,000,000, I would be shocked if he had not already packed up his stuff.
As for JD to KT, which I fully support as a rabid fanboy. I think that would be so great for pro-starcarft, JD's PL burden would be so much lighter, and there is no one else who could do a better job of helping Flash tighten up his early game and improve his strategic play.
Lol it would be so funny if JD doesnt sign for Oz... Oz fans on teamliquid will drop to maybe 2 or 3 people. But that would be better for BackHo, maybe he becomes the OZ Ace and start to play serious =D
If SKT, Khan and KT all offered the same amount or similar amounts, I'd pick KT if I were JD
joining SKT would seem unlikely due to the crushing blow that JD recieved from SKT recently, plus I don't think the atmosphere would be too good with his rivalries against bisu and especially fantasy. All the tricks that SKT pulled off against JD in the finals are just still too fresh in JD's mind I think.
I wouldn't go to Khan either, because I don't think JD would get along with FBH after their incidents with each other, and also I don't think Stork ever got over his loss to JD in the OSL finals.
therefore, assuming that KT offers a similar amount to the above two teams, and assuming no other teams will be able to afford the (280M OR (140M + player)) + salary payment... then KT has JD.

JD doesn't get to choose, all that matters is who offers the most.
JD to MBC would be much better, without making any overpowered teams. JD, with Sea, Light, and Pusan as supporting cast sounds pretty nice, plus MBC needs to find a replacement zerg for Hyun anyway. However, MBC is a farm team, which makes me think they have money problems and can't afford him. Ah well, maybe estro has deep pockets.
Also, I can't stand the idea of olleh KT Rolster Jaedong.
If Jaedong signs with SKT, proleague will be boring due to lack of any semblance of parity between the teams. Because of that, personally, I want Jaedong to stay in Oz or move to a team that would be more preferable for a level (to an extent) playing field.

idk... I think JD seems like the type who sincerely wanted to stay with his friends and teamates, but definately did not want to disobey his parents concerned and my-best-interests-at-heart advice
when it comes to oriental cultures, parents definately hold the most respected and unassailable position in an average person's life. plus, JD seems rather conservative and traditional at heart.

well yeah, thats why i said same or similar amounts
theyre not going to force him to go to skt if skt offers 1 won more than KT
but in regards to the reality of the 3 teams actually offering the same or similar bids, i have no idea. i'm fairly certain KT and SKT can prbly outbid Khan, however SKT definately has less of a need to get JD onto their team, and i don't know how desperate Khan and KT might be. it's all just speculation here.

I doubt the players/coaches would care about small stuff like that if it meant getting the best zerg around today.
Poll: Where does Jaedong end up? (Vote): olleh KT (Vote): Samsung KHAN (Vote): SKTelecom 1 (Vote): Hwaseung Oz (Vote): Woongjin Stars (Vote): Other
Liquidbet this?
Odds: 3-1: On paper, KT is the best fit for Jaedong. With a co-ace and decent team to back him up, Jaedong's load would be substantially lessened. Moving to KT would probably give Jaedong the best chance at winning the PL, which is undoubtably his top priority in the future. Moving to KT holds the tantalyzing prospect of improving Jaedong and Flash's individual results, as both would have their loads lessened. But KT players are also notorious for not performing up to standards upon joining the team. KT shoudl already be stacked on paper with Luxury and forGG, but they still missed the playoffs. KT is an odd bird.
5:1:KHAN is another good choice for the zerg. With a top-notch.coach, and a solid supporting cast, Jaedong would also have a strong shot at the PL finals in Khan Blue. But Khan's non-toss players are not to much of an improvement over Oz, and they are also a team that underperformed last season. With a less-than stirling practice reputation, Jaedong's work-ethic might bring inspiration to Khan, or clash with it.
10:1: Moving to SKT1 would be insane, no doubt about it. But SKT1 already has enough top talent, they've just won the PL finals, and they're not run by a member of the Steinbrenner family, so why would they shell out the money for Jaedong? I'm sure if Jaedong went to SKT1, it would ruin all the fun fantoov has when devising strategies. It would ruin that rivalry, and make the PL much less interesting. Would this even be good for e-sports?
Wow, why don't people get it? It's not just having to play in a lot of games. It's the fact that you have all the weight on your shoulders, the mental pressure is huge. You know every game you lose makes the team lose, pretty much. It burns you out mentally faster than physically. And that's why Jaedong should find a better team with people who he can share his burden with.
god i REALLY hope jaedong doesn't go to SKT1, if he does there's nothing interesting to watch, who could possibly stop them at that point...nobody unless some dark horses rise up out of no where, guess it's possible but it would still be a sick lineup.
They would both get a top-class player to practice their weakest matchups against. Can you imagine Flash without (relatively, 64.4% lololo) weak TvZ, or a Jaedong that is invincible vT?
I wonder if KT can afford Jaedong, though. More importantly, I wonder if Jaedong and Flash are on good terms with eachother outside of the game.

FBH and Jaedong probably would get along better on same team cause its all just entertainment.
I think it's due to NaDa being super popular despite not doing that great now days.
People need to stop this! Ro8 in the two previous seasons of MSL (uber-close series vs best PvT in the world) and runner-up @ last year's blizzcon and this year's Heritage League IS doing great for someone who's been relevant in the progaming scene since 2002.
EDIT: Obviously I'm a fanboy but the shit he pulls off speaks for itself.

Well I'm not trying to bash Nada, but he isn't playing in top form recently (yeah I'm not counting heritage league). Just look at NaDa's record after his series vs Jangbi. It's not like he's Tossgirl bad, but you have to admit Nada's high pay isn't entirely because of his skill.

Wow I just found out now about GGplay. He is one of my favorite zerg players and I will always remember him when he wore the CJ uniform. terrible news for me, I will always remember him as that player who won an OSL. His last epic series were against Flash, GG indeed.
Am I correct in thinking that the free agency period is 2 weeks long? Because that would mean 2 weeks from now we will know which team bid the most on JD, and JD will enter into negotiations with them... THAT IS WAY TOO LONG TO WAIT AHHHHHHHHH.
edit: If JD goes to KT their name should be changed to the "KT Kings"
How come there's a lot of talk about where JD wants to go? I thought that he had to take the highest bidder now that he's declared a "free" agent. I guess teams are usually in talk with the players though so there is probably dealing being done on that level.
From the other thread: KESPA ADDENDUM: August 14th Amongst the bidding teams, the player is UNABLE to select their team of choice, and MUST negotiate a contract with the team that bids the highest amount.

Yes teams will bid like crazy for Jaedong...
Good luck though having a high performing player in a place he does not want to be.
Jaedong to SKT would be too much IMO. Best Protoss, best Zerg, best/second best Terran would absolutely destroy proleague. For SKT to lose, they would have to donate wins.

Problem with jaedong going to kt is that kt already has decent zerg line up. Sure kt and jaedong will benefit, but think about the cost. Flash is earning 200k+ and I'm pretty sure they're paying lux around 100k. I don't think kt will be getting their money's worth with jaedong.
Honestly, mbc would be perfect for jaedong, but because jaedong needs to be relieved every once in a while, mbc would not work because they don't have any other good ace. It'll have to be a team that has a player around jaedong's level, like flash, stork, bisu, and such. But teams like kt and skt will probably not want him because of the cost.

You obviously haven't heard of Light somehow. He's MBC's current ace, and probably a top ten Terran. (Except in Starleagues, kind of like Sea actually.)
I feel like JD will stay at OZ imo. Although maybe that's because I can't really see him moving.
Someone made a good point about him maybe mot being worth the cost to KT. Lux and Flash are probably very expensive + they already have a decent Z lineup. On the othet hand though, I really feel like JD would only benifit Hoejja/Firefist/Lux/815
Shine, gogo: Samsung, Woongjin, Hite, and STX are probably interested in these Terrans, since they only have 1 or no dominant Terran player. I'm guessing gogo will go to STX or Woongjin and Shine going to Hite.
Midas: Woongjin or Estro? Anyone looking for a Terran coach might be interested. Truthfully, Midas cannot compete with Shine and gogo. He might even go back to SKT or retire or AirForced.
Jaedong: SKT, KT, Samsung, MBC, and Woongjin need to grab this guy. However, considering Jaedong's hefty price tag or 300 million or more Won due to FA regulation, I think only SKT/KT/Samsung have what it takes to pay the price. My guess is Samsung, for the sake of balancing issue.
Hyun: He's like a Zerg version of Midas... Pretty sure he's gonna go back to MBC.

MBC can't afford a player like jaedong..get real Notice how MBC doesnt have a single star player? Its because they have no money for it. No possible way they could even begin to think about paying jaedong double his current salary. If jaedong goes to another team, it will be a team with a large corporate backing. However I think Oz will be intelligent enough to keep him.
Nada is paid a lot because hes extremely popular. Much like Nal_ra, Reach and Yellow when they were on KTF.

You obviously haven't heard of Light somehow. He's MBC's current ace, and probably a top ten Terran. (Except in Starleagues, kind of like Sea actually.)
I'm sorry. I actually like Light a lot. But he's one of the worst "aces" around. Jaedong's not going to have any less of a load playing for MBC as he did for Oz.
If Jaedong wants to take it easy, he'll join STX/CJ/Khan/T1/Hite/KT. Of those teams, STX and CJ don't really need more zergs. Hite and Khan never spends money. So I'm imagining he'll end up either Oz, KT, or SKT1.

You best respect ...
Midas is 22 (same age of Iris) and could easily have a similar revival if he was put into the right situation imo. Only two SL seasons ago he was in the OSL Ro8 and playing well in PL to boot. If he just returns to even a shadow of his former brilliance he can easily be much better than go.go/Shine. Easy low riskhigh reward move for a team (assuming he doesn't sign for > 50 mil. Won). I'd rank the Terran FA's as 1. go.go, 2. Midas, 3. Shine, with Midas being the only one of those three that has displayed the capability of playing truly exceptional SC. Honestly, what has Shine ever done except put up mediocre results in the MSL? He's an afterthought compared to go.go/Midas. /End incoherent angry Midas fanboy rant.

All this BS about how Jaedong is underpaid... I've said it before, we don't all root for teams sponsored by corporations with pockets deep enough to poach all of their players (I'm looking at you, KT and SKT1). Jaedong is 19... 19! and he's making in excess of $110,000 USD/yr. It may not be as much as other star pro-gamers, but still. That's ridiculous. How many people on TeamLiquid make that much? I've only ever made a fraction of that, and I'm a college graduate.
Think about it for a second... there's not very much of a business model here. All the money paid by the companies to fund the teams are supposed to be returned purely in the value of brand promotion. They are shelling out money to entertain us. How many of you have ever bought a ticket to an e-sport event? In other words, not all the companies can equally afford to fund this neo-sports television.
Jaedong leaving Oz would subject him to a lot of uncomfortable changes. He'd leave behind his practice partners and his proximity-based relationships with his Oz teammates would suffer. He might not fit in well at a new team, and he might not get the same kind of attention. It's not worth the risk. It could spell the end of his career. Not that he's exactly hurting for money after making so much all this time... but he is clearly a very driven person, and I know he doesn't want it to end in such a lousy way. I pretty much hope no teams bid on him, but I suspect that will not happen.

Well, he's not Flash or fantasy (although his TvZ is arguably currently better than either (no, I don't believe in fantasy's TvZ)). Right now I'd put him with Iris, Mind, and sKyHigh (although skyhigh may belong with Flash and fantasy, but I don't buy that yet) as "A+" Terrans.
There's no question he'd becomes JD's backup if JD went to MBC, rather than a partner like on KT/Samsung/SK. But as backups go, Light (and Sea, maybe Saint, Pusan if he remembers how to play again) make much better backup than Lomo/HiyA/BackHo/whoever.
I don't think I'm delusional, but vs most teams Light makes a nice ace player. Sure, if you had to pick between Jaedong and Light against SK or KT (maybe Samsung), send JD, because you know you're going to get Bisu/fantasy/Flash/(luxury if he stops sucking)/(Jangbi/Stork/FBH). But against other teams, I'd be perfectly happy sending out Light (well, maybe not against eSTRO, UpMagic's TvT is good).
although I would love for Jaedong to join KT, I don't see how they can fork out the money to pay for him AND his salary, while also paying for flash, lux and forgg.
I think what KT might do is to buy JD in exchange for lux + a large amount of money.
People need to start being more realistic about jaedong. SKT/KT are the obvious ones with funds. CJ (maybe samsung) aren't obvious, but the parent company has the funds if available. Teams like hite, woongjin, wemade etc are highly unlikely to be able to cough up enough money to not only pay Jaedong's salary (or possibly double it) and even more unlikely to finish first in a bidding war.
IMO the only likely teams are:
1. SKT (Has the money and a mercenary past and a generally shitty zerg lineup. Also lets not forget the kespa/SKT links lol. The thing that makes this less likely is the current strength of their lineup. But if you think SKT cares enough about the balance/viability of Proleague to not pick up Jaedong....Well that doesnt exactly fit their history does it.) 2. KT (Same money, same past, but probably doesnt have quite as deep pockets. This is offset by its greater need. For a team always trying to rival SKT (and honestly, usually failing) Flash/Jaedong is an exciting counter to Bisu/Fantasy and would result in pretty much a guaranteed team presence in the proleague playoffs of the future.) 3. CJ (normally would be about as likely as samsung (ie not even worth mentioning), However, not only does CJ as a company have deep pockets, there were substantial rumors of an attempt to acquire bisu. With bisu now locked up, CJ is (if the rumors are true) left with a huge amount of cash to spend and a desire to throw it at a big name player. Unfortunately CJ already has the strongest zerg lineup and bisu would have been a much better fit for the team. 4. Other teams. Your team isnt likely, stop pretending it is, go away.

they can afford to, but the team has a history of not spending a lot, and since eSTRO is among the weakest teams (despite their potential) AND Jaedong's parents have to agree to the contract, it seems to me a very dark horse.
eSTRO and samsung are the most likely of the non SKT/KT/CJ to make a big move, but CJ is a dark enough horse already.
I would believe IEG doing it just to make a splash, but I haven't heard any hype/talk about buying a big player etc from them. And again, their current lineup isnt any stronger than hwaseung's so Jaedong would again be carrying the team.

To be quite honest, these players don't make much money at all from a corporate standpoint. Top players like Jaedong and Bisu are making basically higher level manger/director level salary. Hardly bank-breaking amount by any means... even for ESTRO. Any sponsor should they choose can easily afford Jaedong lineup if they choose. So ranking company power is pretty pointless. As a Khan fan, this is painfully obvious given that Khan doesn't have the resources befitting of its sponsor.
I'm really hoping KT, but not specifically because of my, erm, questionable allegiances. I'm throwing my lot in with the people who say Bisu+Fantasy vs Jaedong+Flash would be an amazing proleague duality, and would further the already age old SKT vs KT rivalry from yore. Plus, think how much better Flash's TvZ might get. :3
It'd be an awesome proleague line up. The basic would be Flash/Jaedong/Violet(or tempest if Violet is having a hard time I suppose), and then flex Luxury/Forgg/Tempest(or Violet!!)/Hoejja depending on the opposing team's weaknesses. On top of that, Flash and Jaedong could finally get some slack in the form of each other.
Though, Bisu or Effort would probably end up raping the best of proleague awards if Jaedong and Flash ended up on the same team. :x

I'm not sure why Jaedong being 19 should make his salary lower. If he outperforms every other progamer on the scene (which he has, or at least as performed at the level of every other progamer) he deserves to make more, or as much as every other progamer. This will become apparent when the offers start coming in (some of which I expect to be in excess of $140,000).
Also, the value of practice partners and coaching is highly overrated in sports. Look at any other sport. Most players adapt well to other teams, and if they don't, they get traded. The same will happen to Jaedong if he fails to adjust. And it's not like the quality of his OZ practice partners is that high.

Yes, but CJ has a history of paying its players reasonably well (see savior's contract) and that coupled with the bisu rumors indicates they might be interested in making a splash.
Samsung has significantly deeper pockets than even SKT and SKT towers over every other team. Even STX is bigger than CJ. The reason CJ is included and Samsung/STX/all the others aren't is because of 1) their history of spending big money on players 2) their history of spending money to buy big name players 3) rumors of their activity.

BackHo and SangHo are both not that great overall, but I think SangHo's still growing, while BackHo's slipping a little. Perfectman and Flying I don't really know about, but I'm going to say for the sake of my argument that Flying's got more potential.
The critical factor: Much as I don't like hyvaa, he's actually decent. Which is more than I can say for any of OZ's non-JD Zergs.
That's the overall stats. However, Really, UpMagic, SangHo, and hyvaa all finished with winning (barely) PL records this last season, iirc. On OZ, you have HiyA... maybe Lomo?
---
Why this is a bad move for JD even though eSTRO is better than non-Jaedong OZ:
eSTRO clearly is missing something critical, probably in its coaching. UpMagic, SangHo, and hyvaa all have displayed huge potential which just doesn't show up consistently in their play. Really has also shown play (especially vs Zerg) which if he could maintain would make him a solid #2 Terran on a good team - but not reliably.
I just don't think that Jaedong, even as driven as he is, could overcome that team aura of streaky inconsistent play in the long term. Oh sure, this year he'd be awesome and eSTRO would rocket to at least a #3 seed in the playoffs - maybe a title. But in the following years... I think we'd see Jaedong falling off rather than continuing at his current level or even improving (if that's even possible).
Oh, just read rules. Can Oz not bid on JD (or is the base their 'bid', since it's unlikely he's not going to get any offers at all, possibly lower)? They should have plenty of money, who else are they paying.
1. Flash&Jaedong Two rivals coming together on the same team. both considered one of the top players and used to carrying their team now join up to reach new heights. (basically reminds me of the boston celtics getting Garnett and Allen) 2. SKT&KT Who wouldn't want to see this rivalry spark up again? Jaedong/Flash vs Bisu/Fantasy just sounds exciting.
Khan needs him! He would teach to practice to everyone on the Khan House... January will be so happy to get a player that really likes to practice! she would even cry >.<
And imagine if he somehow makes stork/jangbi better PvZ (I dont think that). He is the man for Khan and I hope that he stays on Oz or goes to Khan cus I want the epic 3way battle for most Proleague wins (Flash/Bisu/Jaedong).
I don't want SKT to buy JD. Not because I hate SKT, but because SKT won proleague with ease with the worst Zerg Line to ever exist in history of SC.
I would love for JD to come to KT, not because Flash needs a good zerg partner (Luxury is stll great in practice) but rather because Flash/JD Child Labor players need a nice little break.
But as an oldschool KT fan, I know. I know that JD has broken numerous curses and I know JD is undoubtedly the #1 player at this moment.
But the KT curse has never been broken, and even if JD has a chance to prove himself I really don't want to see him go through the process of defeating another curse. Sure he has a great chance of breaking the curse, but what if he doesn't? I love Flash/JD, but I love KTF even more, and if there is even a slim chance of the KT team destroying one of my favorite zergs I'd rather have him not come and let him go to a different team.
Sure if the KT Zerg line revived to the olden days (Chojja/Yellow -> Luxury/JD) I would be happy as a banana. But if the KT curse happens to be in effect and destroys the career of a zerg I love watching... I'd rather have JD go to MBCgame heroes or Wemade.
Bisu goes to CJ T1 still keeps majority of imba players JD goes to KT or stays in OZ. (as far as I know, KT bit be a little imbalanced with JD/Flash combo, but still we wouldn't know)

This is the best analysis I have seen so far, but I disagree with some of your points.
First of all, the depth of a company's pockets does not matter. Samsung profits a trillion dollars a year more than KT and SKT combined. Samsung has MUCH deeper pockets, but as an international company they get far less bang for their buck than strictly Korean companies.
My list looks like:
1. KT - KT and SKT are direct competitators. Until recently KT has come out on top due to their strong performance in the land line business, but land lines are a rapidly receding market and this is starting to hurt KT's bottom line. They want to start sucking up cell phone market share, and towards that end a lot of money is going into youth oriented marketing. That's where all this Olleh crap is coming from. It's also pretty clear they let loose some marketing people on their SC team (Finger Boom, stupid uniforms, Ralston... what the fuck is Ralston?). As difficult as this has been on us KT fans, it means that they see the team as an important part of their efforts. They really really really want young Koreans talking to their friends about KT's recent match, and I think they're going to put up quite a bit of cash. They are also trying to get approval for a merger, and posting losses will actually help with that. They're going to be spending money like it's going out of style for the next quarter or two.
2. CJ - I am less familiar with this company, but the rumor fusionsdf mentioned speaks for it self.
3. Hite - Hite has a 60% share in the Korean beverage market. A major company is trying to acquire the other 40%, and they seem determined to cut into Hite's business. Hite is probably going to pump up their marketing in response and it has seems like their SC team has performed well for them thus far.
4. SKT - They have many of the same motivations as KT, but they have been criticized recently for spending too much on marketing. Still, the demographic of Pro-SC fans is very important to them and they are fighting hard to reach them. On the other hand, what more do they want? Getting into a pro-league finals is probably the best possible outcome for a firm looking to get attention by funding an SC team. They might even be thinking that a good rivalry could garner even more attention for them. They shouldn't be counted out, but I think they think they'll get less return than the above companies do.
It could all come down to which company has the most convincing VP managing their team account, so it's really hard to say what will happen. The above 4 seem most likely to sign JD to me, but not by much.
I'm a KT fan, but only because of Flash. If Flash switched teams or retired, KT would become my least favorite team faster than you can say "Flash only lost that game because...". I carry a fair amount of Korean stock in my portfolio, and I think I am being relatively objective in this write up.

KT curse? A silly superstition within statistical bounds I say. Chojja tanked indeed, but he's only one case. We don't know whether he was already jaded and just looking for a paycheck, or something more devious rekrul could inform us of. Yellow actually performed rather well after his KTF move, and we could say his future decline was a personal matter rather than a result of his move. Nal_ra moved and was their invincible ace in proleague, before a later decline which could be attributed to something else? In any case, there's nothing that directly implicates a move to KTF with a decline in skill,

Jaedong is 19... 19! and he's making in excess of $110,000 USD/yr. It may not be as much as other star pro-gamers, but still. That's ridiculous. How many people on TeamLiquid make that much? I've only ever made a fraction of that, and I'm a college graduate.
Jaedong IS underpaid. Considering what he does for the team you would have to be crazy to think He is not underpaid. Competitors are paid not in accordance to what degree they have, but what they do for their teams/sponsers.
If you had as much impact in a big corporate team as Jaedong/worked as hard as him I guarantee you would make more money then him.

In any case, there's nothing that directly implicates a move to KTF with a decline in skill,
I'm just really worried because this generation's KTF buys really did suck (beside Lux... okay his Allkill -> MSL Streak)

He won the fucking MSL. Yes Jangbi sucked. But he won a major singles title, which is a big deal. In terms of going to KTF and immediately tanking as if you took the money and ran, all I can think of is ForGG. Sync and Chojja at least played at a mediocre level before they decided to play terribly. And Oops~lee was terrible before he joined, he doesn't count.

yeah it was a typo, although perhaps subconsciously...
Imo - best case scenario - he goes to Hite. They wouldn't be uber-imba like say SKT, KTF or CJ, yet they'd become a power on par with (or close to) SKT. It would be fun to watch.
One of my fav progamers retires. Health comes first, but it's still sad. Best of luck to you GGPlay and I hope after your military servise you take a shot at sc2.
For some reason I am extremely excited to see the next batch of KESPA maps and what it will change in progaming. Specially when combined with possible team switches.
JD should do this Boxer style and just make his own team. Let the stars come to him and his greatness. He could play the first few seasons by himself and still make finals. (Weve seen it)
I just did a currency conversation and 180 million won is about 145,000 US dollars. Not unreasonable at all for Jaedong to demand at LEAST that when you consider that KT is paying flash more than 200 thousand according to a fairly recent interview. If jaedong was on a richer team you know hed be making a LOT more than he does now without the need for any demands.

lol no kidding ... even he only manages to pull some half-ass B-teamers it will still be good enough, not like he's new to single-handedly lifting up the whole team anyway ...

140,000 Base salary for the Dong, how much of an insult that is from Hwaseung? Jaedong's a good kid, we can pretty much tell that he's attached to all of his team mates in the house, but seriously if he had stayed in that team, he would've regretted it in his latter years.
140,000,000 won really is an insult and trust me, it's not only us thinking so. Korean netizens are fucking shocked and in disbelief too. If anything, MINIMUM should at least be 180 if not 200+. IMO, I think that man at least deserves 250+, but that's just how I think and I ain't the one to judge how much he will receive. :p

140,000,000 Won is equivalent to about 115,000 Dollars (base salary a year). Majority of the Korean netizens are saying he deserves at least 180,000,000+ Won which is about 145,000+ Dollars. I say, he deserves at least 200k a year. Nada in his prime made 300,000,000 won so why shouldn't Jaedong deserve similar pay or lil less than that? We'll have to wait and see who the highest bidder is and how much they're going to pay him. $$$

, not only does a player MUST negotiate with the team that bids the highest amount (this was already discussed), the player has to negotiate with the team that bids the highest TOTAL amount over X amount of years.
This means that if Team A offers Player A 100 Million Won for one year, and Team B offers 110 Million Won for over two years (55M each year), Player A must negotiate with team B even though he would only earn 55 Million per year.
That means the player is losing 45 Million Won in the first year he could have earned by negotiating with team A.
Tell me what you would choose. 100 Million in one year or 110 Million in two years.
It can get worse, maybe a team offering 110 Million for three years vs 100 Million in one year. The first team would still get the player, even though their pay is a lot worse.

, not only does a player MUST negotiate with the team that bids the highest amount (this was already discussed), the player has to negotiate with the team that bids the highest TOTAL amount over X amount of years.
I read no Korean, but this absolutely makes no sense. It might be that he has to rather negotiate with a team that bids 100 mil / year over 4 years than with a team that bids 100 mil /year over 3 years, but the other version is totally unbelievable.

Who thinks this stuff up? Fire imo. Someone is going to offer Jaedong 200mil over the course of 10 years or something.
WoW im going to do my own SC Pro Korean team with Jaedong as frontman... I will offer him 100.000.000.000 Won but over 2000years ... he cant reject my offer =D Now I only need Shine, Midas and me =D
Well, coming to think about this, maybe it isn't all that bad. This encourages the teams to offer 3-5 year contracts with a decent salary. So while the regulations sound bad, the competition might resolve it.

Wow, that's a great point. Though it's still pretty stupid. I think if there was a plan to this, it must've been to prevent one-year contracts. If they didn't do this players could go FA every year to see who's willing to pay the most that year.

, not only does a player MUST negotiate with the team that bids the highest amount (this was already discussed), the player has to negotiate with the team that bids the highest TOTAL amount over X amount of years.
The first team would still get the player, even though their pay is a lot worse.
keyword: negotiate which means they can change conditions of the contract
In the above example, if the companies are smart and actually want Jaedong, they would do
Company 1 offers 150M for 3 years Company 2 offers 120M for 3 years Company 3 offers 90M for 3 years.
Then if Company 3 really wants Jaedong and screw the FA system, they might do
Company 3 offers 200M for 10 years.
But then Company 1, 2 will be smart and just up their year count:
Company 1 offers 300M for 6 years Company 2 offers 240M for 6 years Company 3 offers 200M for 10 years
In the end, it ends up being pretty logical, and actually, if companies are devious enough to try to game the system, they just end up having to give the player a lifetime contract (not bad imo).

They have to negotiate, not have to accept they can sign back on with the original teams if they don't get a satisfactory offer but they will likely get a big pay cut. Hwasung could do something underhanded and bribes a team that doesn't have the money to pick Jaedong up to make a ridicules offer forcing Jaedong to stay where he is.

Teams can use that clause to prevent other teams from acquiring Jaedong.. Like SKT ends up being the highest bidder, but say Samsung wanted to prevent that and and adds some years and money to their bids to win. Samsung doesn't even need to contract Jaedong, as long as it completes it's hypothetical goal, preventing Jaedong to SKT, they are happy. An interesting notion, to say the least..

Wait, is the bidding system closed ballot or is it more like an auction; i.e are you sending a bid and hoping it's the highest or do you get a chance to see what everyone else bid and adjust?

Yea, possibly. If the system is a closed ballot system though, with no option to update bids, it's a pretty stupid system.

this is completely invalidated by the fact that Hwaseung has already announced the terms of the offer that they will make to Jaedong if he comes back from the FA period without a contract. In other words, they have politely already promised not to game the system and give him a pay cut.

Analyzing hite Sparkyz I totally understand the move of go.go. Compared to the ability he's been displaying recently he hasn't gotten enough playtime in Sparkyz. If hite Sparkyz wants to keep their captain Justin active, they cannot afford to field go.go too often either. Therefore, he's kind of a mismatch. Arnac is good enough to handle any terran, Horang2 a PvP specialist, while Leta is stable in all of his matchups.
Conclusion: Sparkys needs a good ZvP and PvZ.
PvZ: There aren't any good PvZs out on the market. Well, there arent any good PvZs at all atm (except for Bisu) and I do think hite has a PvZ is on the way in the form of Tazza.
ZvP: The perfect match would be July for obvious reasons, unfortunately he's not available. Who then, if not...
olleh KT (Fingerboom) The obvious team is KTs with their history of buying players. Flash is also being overworked since Luxury hasn't been pulling his weight. Another so far unmentioned reason is their new name. With a new name comes an opportunity to start anew and build a stronger, better KT. A player of Jaedongs caliber would give KT a much needed boost.
2. I hope you haven't forgotten a recent namechange!? + Show Spoiler +
hite Sparkyz The naming rights being sold to the Korean 'Hite' Beer company should result in better economy for the team. The beer company also has a history of sponsoring sporting-events and players. This means Hite Beer and isn't likely to play a passive role in the teams future. Using the capital injection to acquire new players is a feasible option.
SK Telecom T1 SKT1s lacks a top level zerg player and isn't afraid of bribing anyone into joining their ranks. That being said, I think it would be a mistake trying to recruit Jaedong, bad for both the team and general proleague play. Having one dominant team equals less competion for the players and boring season. This will in turn lead to a smaller audience watching the wonderful game of starcraft.
No way in hell KT will buy Jaedong. Lux is already a star zerg player...underpreforming one...but sense they kept him they obviously arent going to invest in a player like jaedong. Flash is their Ace. They don't need 2 really expensive Ace's. And Hite can't afford Jaedong. Remember they'd have to double his currect salary to get him.

When you look at jaedong's results/salary compared to other players it's very obvious he's being underpaid. How have "meddling parents" brought more harm and help before? Provide an example?

Yes, if you think about it, he's guaranteed at least 140 mil plus 60 mil+ bonus salary every year by Hwaseung. So I don't think the other Company would be stupid enough to bid high but with stupidly high x amount of years. However, something like this for example, can be a tough offer for Jaedong:
Hwaseung guarantees: 140,000,000 for 1 year Let's say that SKT T1 offers: 380,000,000 for 3 years (which is 126 mil a year)
Then Jaedong has to decide which would be the better offer. It would be just like a gamble. SKT T1's offer is more steady but say Jaedong continues to do well, he can possibly receive a better and higher contract next year or so. And if he performs poor then it'll be the opposite.
I dont know if anyone has mentioned this, but how Jaedong does tonight might have a big impact on the bidding. If he totally fails, teams are probably not going to bid as much on him, so a lesser team could pick him up.
But this could be just me wanting to see Jaedong on Estro.

Even if Jaedong gets 3-0'd, he's still the most valuable player around.

But his salary would be 30,000 less or something like that, and teams could lower the cost by double the amount his salary gets reduced.
Looking at the money listed, it's pretty clear that FA hasn't helped players a single bit in terms of salaries. There's basically no competition unless the team doesn't really care if you come back(go.go) or if the team low balls you tremendously(Jaedong).
I'm still surprised Oz made such an insulting offer to Jaedong. I mean, we're only talking about a 25% bump up from Calm's new contract.

Woot, good teams to go to imo without breaking PL balance. Zero/JD in the same team using gosu Zerg strats would be WIN. and with JD to practice with Zero will fix his ZvZ. They just need to pick up another T like gogo and theyll be kissing bottom 6 goodbye and will be kissing PL trophy. STX must have a crapload of money to afford JD though.

Seems to me going to Wemade is pretty much the same as staying at Oz, in terms of talent level of teammates. STX already has by.hero and Calm. So Jaedong seems like a waste of money for them.
Jaedong joining Woongjin, however, would be awesome.

As I understand it, it's not the pay, it's the team.
Anytime is with the Air Force. fOrGG is with KT. HiyA is a Protoss wrecking machine, but unreliable for anything else. BackHo has moments of brilliance, but is unreliable for anything. Lomo is good for nothing on the whole except annoying Zergs with wraiths and stealing the occasional TvT. (Okay, I'm being too hard on Lomo here, but I don't like him.) OZ's junior Zergs suck.
Jaedong literally has no one on the team to practice with any more.
IMO, OZ's decision to let KT buy fOrGG off of them just bit them in the ass (well, actually it would have done that in PL playoffs when Lomo had to do his, "I'm a competent Terran, really," impression except that BeSt kind of threw that game away... anyway, getting off topic here).

Woongjin would be amazing, especially if they pick up Midas as well. Zero/Free could help with JD's weaker matchups and issues with unorthodox play. Plus, we'd probably see queens everywhere.
Free has been gradually declining these last few months so JD could gradually fill in his role as Stars' ace (Which Zero really hasn't been able to do). Jd/Zero/Free/Guemchi is a really strong, unfortunately terran-less lineup.

Woongjin would be amazing, especially if they pick up Midas as well. Zero/Free could help with JD's weaker matchups and issues with unorthodox play. Plus, we'd probably see queens everywhere.

I agree though that the Zero/JD combo has interesting possibilities for queen strategies and such... but I mean Jaedong isn't exactly shaky in any matchup besides ZvT recently and shaky is a bit of an exaggeration.

If Jaedong has a weak MU, its ZvT. Which woongjin wouldn't really be able to help him with.

Is that true about Samsung/kt/skt? STX seems like the last place he would go. They just handed out a ton of money to hwasin/calm, and they already have a ton of zergs.
Eh Piano, MVP, and even Ganzi stepped it up alot this year...The problem for woonjin was that free and zero decided to play badly at the same time late in the season. Jaedong on woonjin would be very very strong team. Just Imagine Free, Zero, Piano, JD, with atleast 2 playing well, all match ups are covered pretty strongly as well. JD to Wemade would be pretty nice, the team wouldnt be overpowered, but very strong.
And Piano's TvZ is very good. And Ganzi looked pretty nice in his matches vs JD.
I wonder what teams are looking for Midas? And its a shame shine cant find a team, he was doing pretty well in the individuals this year and had a lot of great wins over people like Best, Yarnc, Stork.

If that happened...I don't know what I'd do. Certainly not something silly (row of cocks, etc) that people promise here from time to time, but something.
Jesus christ dammit you've got me all excited now and I'm going to be really upset when he goes to wemade or something

Weaker is an adjective to state that his zvp and zvt are weaker than his zvz, not that his zvp and zvt are weak - him and Zero have very different ZvP styles, and Zero isn't much worse in that MU (10% or so lower). Basically they have very different styles and both styles are effective.
10% or so is an incredible amount, fyi. Zero's vP is terribly inconsistent whereas Jaedong boasts a 71%+ winning percentage since his first osl win.
Hite seems like a decent fit for jaedong, despite his terrific record against the team. Leta and him are good friends, at least from what I could surmise in his interviews. If that doesn't happen, I'm hoping KT will offer well.

Hum interesting! Jaedong in WeMade seems about right to me, hopefully it transpires!

Hoho that's interesting.
So it seems quite likely that Jaedong will remain in Oz

It's a good thing that the good teams can't afford him. Jaedong on Kt, Sktt1 or khan would imbalance progaming so badly.
Why would JD to Stars be so bad? Apart from making the Stars relevant and OZ suck, it really wouldn't change anything significant. IMO Stars on paper would still be weaker than at least SK and KHAN. Of course, that's why we play the games.

Zeros ZvP is pretty solid, even though inconsistent is a word to describe zero himself saying his ZvP is terribly inconsistent is a ridiculous overstatement.

If Jaedong were to transfer to Stars it wouldn't be that different from staying on Oz. Stars has Free, Zero, Piano but Oz has Hiya, Backho, Lomo. Maybe Stars is stronger than an Oz without JD, but the difference doesn't seem to that much and wasn't the whole reason JD's mom wanted him out of Oz was because he was carrying the team?
He would probably just end up carrying Stars instead of Oz.
Wemade? Wemade was at the bottom of the ranks so unlikely to be mom approved.
STX would make sense if they could afford him given the strength of the STX line.
I dont know how you compare in good conscience, FREE, ZERO, and piano to lomo, hiya and backho, LoL stars dont need to be carried by anyone else, When it comes to down the ACE match Free has the Terrans and the Zergs, Zero has the Terrans and the Protoss. OZ just has Jaedong. This isnt even a comparison.

Stars also have Guemchi, who is probably at least slightly better than Lomo.

This really isn't true at all, though. Hiya was nothing more than a sniper before his WL fame, and he dropped back off the radar afterward. He was 7-13 to finish off the PL season - part of the reason why Hwaesung fell out of first place after they amassed quite a lead during WL. Lomo has never been very impressive either. Backho has shown some really solid play at times, and I think he will continue to do so, but he hasn't been able to be consistent due to various factors (not all his fault). All three players have sub 50% win rates.
I don't see how you can compare them to free and ZerO, honestly. Even PianO shows more promise than the Oz players IMO.

Wait, what? By "on paper" I mean assuming the players play to potential.
Assuming JD to Stars:
SK vs Woongjin: Jaedong/Bisu is a toss-up, even with JD going all golden mouse on us. fantasy >>>>> free, Canata and Zero I put about equal - Zero's got more up side but Canata's looking better now. BeSt - good BeSt - beats Piano - even good Piano - hollow, despite the vs Z thing.
SK's weakness is the Zerg line, but Bisu/fantasy/Canata or BeSt/some Zerg will take 4 of 10 matches outright and 8 out of 10 to ace if necessary. JD/free/Zero/Piano I'd say only take 2 or 3 of 10 matches in four games and only 7 or so go to ace.
KHAN vs Woongjin: Jaedong > KHAN, but apart from that Stork > free (except against Z), Jangbi > free (ditto), fbh > Piano (except against P, probably). Zero is much better potentially but way streakier than great.
This is a lot closer, but I think that where KHAN has Stork/Jangbi/fbh favored to win (assuming good play) most of the time, hypothetical Stars only have JD/one of free and Zero. Which is good enough to take games to ace, but not good enough to close it out all the time. IIRC, OZ played about 15 ace matches, or 4 per round, while KHAN was more like 3 per round. (Of course, KHAN lost more too...)
Of course, the wild card in all this is that hypothetical Stars looks better than current OZ, suggesting that they really would >> SK and KHAN.
I dunno - but I really just think this would substitute Stars for OZ in the standings.
I think Oz should really consider buying some new flesh to share the Jaedong's PL burden ... Or else, if next season is gonna be another version of this one, Lee Jaedong is gonna die at the age of 30, no kidding.

Assuming that JD will stay, of course.
well if they won't pay jaedong more than stx pays Calm why would they hire someone else for dirt cheap?
On August 24 2009 04:03 Nevuk wrote: People are ignoring Guemchi when considering stars' lineup for some reason (he's much more impressive than piano/mvp/ganzi).
Him being more impressive isn't too relevant since Stars would have to play a Terran, they couldn't go JD/Zero/Free/GuemChi.

Which is why they can't afford it. SKT has the payroll on Bisu Best and Fantasy, factor in star power wages on Oov and Boxer and they've already got a massive budget foregoing their back up team.
KT is similar. While they don't have as much actual performing talent, Flash/Forgg/Luxury can't be cheap, and they might have to end up raising Violet's wages if he doesn't begin failing as bad as he used to.
The only way I could see them spending cash on Jaedong is because they've both dropped a player. If you devote old money from either Shine or Midas, and beg your company for some more, they might be able to splurge on Jaedong. But at this point, both teams are probably feeling comfortable on their next year proleague chances, so they don't NEED Jaedong to bring the hype for their team, and thus pro bono advertisement. Woongjin, mbc, et al do need the boost to get them to the playoffs, so it might not be an unwise investment.
This is still a business. The only reason to really break bank to get Jaedong is to get into the PL finals. If you're confident your current team can do that, why lose money on something you aren't sure is gonna return it?

Well ... this is a business. From a cynical/realistic standpoint, I think the "only" reason to break bank is to make more bank in return. Perhaps major Korean corporations feel that it's necessary to sponsor an SC team because it's kind of a "we are a big player" statement, but don't care TOO much about the results as long as the team is not a laughingstock (and maybe not even then...).
PL finals is nice but maybe market research (or lack thereof) has shown that it doesn't really make a huge difference on the bottom line. I suppose the key is to get more fans because fans might be more likely to prefer a product - getting to the finals must help with that so there is some potential correlation.
Ironically, having said all that, I do fully believe Jaedong is worth a MEGA contract. I think if SC were a more developed business like a pro sport in America, teams would be looking at the JD free agency the same way NBA teams look at LeBron, or MLB teams looked at ARod back in 2001. Like LeBron and ARod, Jaedong is a superduper mega talent who at the time of his free agency has a great chance of going down as the greatest player of all time (just like ARod looked like he would break the HR record ... this was pre-roids of course, and LeBron currently still looks like he fits the part). In fact, JD actually wins championships so in that sense he's even better, haha. If it weren't for SC2, I would put his chances of winning a 4th OSL at over 50%, but even now I give him a good chance to get one of the next two (the last two that I think will come out before SC2). Not saying that SC2 kills BW, but it's hard to speculate beyond that as to what will happen.
It's times like this that, even though I'm a CJ fan, I wish KT wasn't so retarded. For a team that has been wasting arguably the greatest natural talent in SC (Flash's age 15 run may well never be topped) and has been notorious for coming up short, breaking the bank for JD is the highest probability move to change years and years of built up association between KTF Starcraft and failure. All jokes about KT ruining players aside, isn't KT automatically a top 2 team in SC? I would argue they're the safe bet for #1 in the regular season, as both JD and Flash are monsters on every given day whereas Fantasy hasn't proven that he can do that. Also I'll put my money on ForGG/Lux/Violet over Best/Canata/some Zerg any day of the week. Also, doesn't the likelihood of multiple KT players rolling through the individual leagues go up a ton?
The baller play by KT would be to make a move for JD and reinvent themselves as a true challenger to the premier SC franchise (which is undoubtedly SKT1). But I'm guessing management there isn't paid well to take chances, but rather to come up with awful names. Oh well.
@darktreb. Nada and Calm got the same amount of money. I think it's safe to say that "star quality" is much more important than actual performance. As I'm not Korean, I can only guess that perhaps Jaedong just doesn't attract enough fanboys and fangirls to warrant the mega-bucks like 200 million won. Which is what players like Savior and Nada easily made during their heydays.
