oops, scforall still has some hole in it goddamnit all. i'll let u know when its fixed. EDIT: its fixed again, it was clean when i posted this, became infected sometime last night. sit tight nerds.
excerpt:
Artosis - When did you start thinking about going to Korea for Starcraft, and what finally made you decide to take the leap?
Ret - I’ve always wanted to be a pro gamer for Starcraft, and go to Korea. When I was younger, perhaps the more appropriate age, there were less foreigners in Korea and contacting pro teams managers was a lot harder than now. I had never expected that I would still get the chance to go to Korea, but when the opportunity arose I realized that it was still my dream and that I wanted to give it my best shot.
Artosis - What are your goals in going to Korea? How long do you intend to stay?
Ret - The immediate goal for Starcraft would be to win the courage tournament and then perhaps play a Pro League match. But we’ll have to see what happens when SC2 comes out and how that changes things. I really don’t know how long I’ll stay, but I intend to stay in pro gaming for SC2, so it could be a long time.
Artosis - Winning the courage tournament is something that only 1 foreigner has ever done before (Assem), even though NonY came very close, losing the finals 1-2 on his first try. Supposedly they have even made it a much harder tournament now. What time frame do you think you can win this event in?
Ret - I think my ZvZ will be the only problem with winning Courage. So if I can get that matchup up to par quickly, I should be a pretty strong contender. If that happens reasonably quick, I think I could possibly win it on my first try. But of course to win any tournament with a strong field of players, you’ll also need some luck.
I heard on Inka's stream quite a while ago that he was going to Korea for sure. they didn't know he was streaming when they talked about it lol. Best of luck to Ret.
He will do amazingly well. Nada isn't what he used to be but he is still used in proleague / etc.. he was taken down in a solid straight up game on a balanced ish map. Ret in the korean climate could be the foreigners first real big name over there since leg.
No disrespect to greg.. he had done great things too I just think ret ON estro with what he has can do some more glamorous things.
Wowwww I am excited. I cannot wait to see how ret does in korea. When Nony went to Korea it was so much fun to keep up with. Artosis you GOTTA post courage videos again plz! (and any videos with ret in korea).
Ret on estro should be interesting. ZvZ seems like the matchup which is going to be the easiest to improve rapidly, as long as he practices it constantly. (Considering that it's typically 1/4-1/2 as long as the other matchups). Congrats to Ret, he seems like he is genuinely going to be able to do something there.

Proud to say that I was a huge ret fan even before he started streaming and owning. Never missed one of his replays. I did TvZ because he did it, and now that he's switched to ZvZ, I've manned up and done the same; in other words, ret is my hero. Show those koreans who's boss. GO RETJE!

Wasn't it even harder thought?
ps: i didn't mean to sound like a smartass or anything
iirc, it was a 256 man tournament with 4 or 8 spots (4 i think), harder is arbitrary as we don't know who he played or how well they played vs him on that day.
Ret, seriously, if any foreigner that deserves to Korea, it's YOU. Best of luck! I know you can do it, you have been beasting it here and imagine how much better you will get during your stay in Korea. This is so exciting!

No i mean harder as in format.
If i remember correctly old courage was every 3 months or so, now it's everyone month right?
For a foreigner it means they have to stay longer for each run at courage. Also those pro-team licenses weren't there for teams to assign (I'm assuming they still are).
If you can tell me how it is nowadays i would appreciate it, since the new things I know i got from your videos :p
courage isn't quite every month, it has months off due to things like the rookie drafts. i think there is 9 or 10 courages a year but i never counted.
ill be doing a ton of courage coverage coming up. i heard that they recently made it about 100x harder than the one from the nony coverage video, but im unsure of the exact changes to the new format. unless courage this month overlaps with IEF, i'll make a video at it.
Ret Fighting!! If he was on par with Idra imagine what he could do with korean training! His motivation seems good also, perhaps the most important part!
Didn't estro stonewall idra? That's a red flag. If he's trying out for estro, that means neither side has made a commitment. If CJ entus is willing to have a foreigner, why not try out for a team whose number 1 zerg takes english lessons in the mornings?
I mean, ret learned from a korean who tried and failed to win courage, and apparently
Ret - I think my ZvZ will be the only problem with winning Courage.
he thinks he has surpassed him. If he learned from Oz's number 1 zerg...?
WOO! Another nerd to Korea! <3 congrats, ret, and no worries, I think like 99% of Koreans smoke so you'll be ok on that end. Cigs are like $2.50 a pack here too. Hooray lung cancer!
FUCK YES IM SO HAPPY, RET GO FUCK SOME CHOBO KOREANS UP :D, ret if theres any non koreans that can get into the a team and take a pl win its you, gl gogogo tl.net's all cheering for you
Also, I can’t wait to beat IdrA in every foreign tournament he ever participates in once I will be able to practice as much as he has (WINK).
good news. hope to see some impact. Not to belittle how hard it is, but would be lovely if you reached your goals and we saw you in a PL game eventually^^ gl
Good luck ret. I hope you can really enjoy your time in Korea. If I were you, I would try everything to get at least a few hours of Korean lessons a week. It'll make your life so much easier eventually.
Great interview as always Dan. Looking forward to hours of footage from ret's Courage and Progaming journey! Make him wear clogs.
I really hope he doesn't get too many ZvZ sets at Courage. With any luck all the best Z players have gone through off the recent zerg dominance and only the wimpy Protoss are left.
i hope IdrA gets to the A-team before ret. it just seems unfair to me if not. ret seems better and more talented, but IdrA really sacrificed a lot more.
Awesome! and GZ! and GL! and HF! and GG! It'll be very exciting to follow your new life in korea. Hopefully Artosis will update us once in a while? :o)
go crush some koreans. ^__^ If you dodge the good ZvZers youll win courage in one try . We are all cheering for you, but the sad part is no more stream anymore
This is amazing news. Ret, we're so proud of you! Can't wait to follow your progress. Make sure to keep us updated constantly. You've got many fans here who really want to see you succeed! Congratulations and have fun!
Nice, I haven't really followed ret very much, and this'll probably get lost in all the posts saying exactly the same thing. But good luck over there, have fun! =D
After seeing Ret come back to beat Nada, I really believe that with proteam training, this boy can go all the way. Ret has the right combination of slick macro, intelligence and dedication to really make an impact.
When he gets all famous, I can brag to everyone on here about how Ret once read something I wrote in his livestream chat!!!1!1
Lolz, seriously though, go kick some serious ass in Courage Ret, even if they won't let you stream any more, ALL 10 billion of us here at TL will follow your journey with avid interest. At the very least make some threads here about your tourneys and travels!

I like SCforAll, but we should all avoid it until they actually make a decent effort to fix it instead of "lawl, it's gud nao cum get sum viruz" in the name of self-promotion.

Well, since so many people are having trouble visiting the site I'll copy and paste it into here, if you have a problem with this artosis feel free to let me know.
One of everyone’s most favorite non-Korean players takes a big step as he heads to Korea to try out for the eSTRO pro team.
Artosis conducted an interview with Ret, and asked him some serious questions on why he is making this big life changing choice.
Artosis - When did you start thinking about going to Korea for Starcraft, and what finally made you decide to take the leap?
Ret - I’ve always wanted to be a pro gamer for Starcraft, and go to Korea. Artosis - Dropping out of school to move to Korea and become a professional video game player is a big change in your life. How has your family and friends reacted?
Ret - Surprisingly enough, they have been very supportive. I am about 2 years from finishing my degree and could always return to it. But my parents and friends think it’s going to be a great experience for me, and they also know that my real passion lies with pro gaming and not with business, so I can make a career out of it they are very excited for me. Everyone’s supportive and many have said they will come visit me at some point. So it’s great.
Artosis - What challenges do you think you will face upon moving to Korea and playing Starcraft all day?
Ret - Playing Starcraft all day shouldn’t be a problem, I love the game. It might be hard to give up a lot of privacy and freedom I had here in The Netherlands, sharing rooms with multiple people much younger than myself might prove difficult after time. It’s the only thing that really worries me, I need my alone time sometimes. Also I worry if I will have people I can really talk to, but I have already spoken to eSTRO manager ( Hwanni ) and his English is very good so that’s nice. And of course I’ll be able to hang out with the people already in Korea, it’s a definitely a plus there’s already a big foreign group in Korea right now so I won’t feel completely alone.
Artosis - What most excites you about this new change in your life?
Ret - Well like I said being a pro gamer has been a dream for a long time. I look forward to competing in Starcraft and trying to be the best I can be. I also look forward to experiencing Korean culture and Seoul as much as possible. And of course hanging out with the other foreigners in Korea should be a lot of fun. Also, I can’t wait to beat IdrA in every foreign tournament he ever participates in once I will be able to practice as much as he has (WINK).
Artosis - Well, you’re off to Korea on the 16th of October, and I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say GL HF~~ Any shout outs?
Ret - Shout out to all my friends, family for being supportive, all the American gamers I hang out with on vent every day, my teammates in ESC and my teammates in ToT for making SC a fun place to be, and Artosis for being a friend and helping me a lot with this ’career move.’ Cheers!
Isn't this almost as big of an offense as openly spreading malware and viruses? A ban for spreading viruses and malware wouldn't be out of order, in my opinion. Especially if you say it's safe. Artosis or not, if I was a mod you'd be banned already.

That's reasonable if you assume that he knew the site was still broken. I don't think he did, especially since I don't think the site was infected early this morning.
Why don't you guys just disable and remove all the stupid AV software? Problem solved.
Right now scforall requests a file from http://xapsearch.com/counter/, but nothing comes back. This is still somewhat shady especially since I don't think it's wanted behaviour (PMd Artosis about it) but not harmful at the moment.

No.
I had to scan twice, once in SM, then system restore because it was messing with some proxy server thing.

The site has malware, and there is other links to the exact same interview on safe sites.
Why not remove the link? Is it seriously that difficult?
I did unlink the link and added a message saying COPY AND PASTE AT YOUR OWN RISK. If you're on a machine which isn't affected by the malware or you're as confident in your own immunity to viruses as zatic is ( ) then it's your choice in my opinion. I personally recommend against it though ^^ To discuss the virus situation of scforall go to the SCForAll virus thread please !
Awesome, I always thought that Starcaft Proleague would benefit much - and be more interesting - from "globalization". (Watching Giyom when I was young was always fun.) With your skill, I think you have a great chance of beating Courage tournament.

Spam the e-mail of every Protoss player who ever beat him with DTs, of course.
Wow, this is really incredible. Congratulations and wish you all the best Ret. You can make proleague if you set your heart on it. Work hard on ZvZ and make a big splash in courage.
I really like the idea of having both IdrA/ret in Korea constantly pushing each other to perform better, it dramatically increases the chances of one of them breaking through imo.

This is great. I can't wait for Ret to become Ret....!
But, can someone explain to me exactly how this works though? ret is ON eSTRO now, yes? Does he stay with them and practice with them? What is courage, and what is the significance of winning it?
go rett!! will Oz/T1 never recruit foreigners >:0?
T1 already tried it with PJ/Lx. Probably wont try it with non-Chinese gamers.
I think it's really hard for a foreigner to make it to T1. They have some pretty ridiculous restrictions with respect to APMs. IIRC it was at least 250 for protoss and 300 for terran and zerg or something, and you don't get food if you can't reach it.
So technically Stork and Savior would die of starvation if they were on SKT1. :p

gl in korea ret, I remember a while back when you were coming back to sc from your break and I got to play a few PvZs with you, and got horribly pwned, to help you in your preparation for playing Nony I think it was.
We'll see if ret has the determination to train like a korean. I mean, training as a top foreigner is one thing but to compete in the korean scene is STILL on another level. IdrA has this determination. I think if ret can practice and does everything properly he can go very very far. A proleague appearence will be too easy of a goal! (btw ret hwaiting)

Haha, me and my friends always tell eachother to eat a dick, especially while playing ssbm.
Hopefully he can earn second zerg spot after hyvaa. The other zergs in estro aren't nothing special, and seems like Haran might be his only obstacle to be the teams alternative zerg.
Best of luck from the Aussies! Hope you smash it up like our famous wink toss
If you get stuck and need some small $ then give me a pm and I see if i can help. It might buy you a sweat band for the long training hours and nervous courage matches ^_________^
i can't believe it was suggested that artosis gets banned from team liquid hahaha. An enthusiastic link for foreigners to Korea, not to mention smart and helpful to the site.
Besides that, why is ret learning zvz? is tvz is gosu, is it like not legal to swich races? anyways i think ret is going to be the Grr of sc2, and white men (well non korean men/women really) will feel less doomed vs koreans while gaming with him as our morale booster.
Wow ret we all follow you, whit your stream.... Very glad for u man...focus and do your best and forget the rest....
I hate idra haters... he is also a representation of foreigner SC, if u guys think its easy why are u not our there in korea....Talk its easy, make things happen are not...
respek for the idra respect! idra's impressive in a different way, he learned so fast and plays so korean like. he just has some srs gamer rage and should maybe stop saying things "take no skill" because at the pro gamer level it should not be about being impressive it should be about winning.

once again, good luck to ret though.
To be fair, Assem was a progamer a long time ago, so you cannot just assume everyone is going to know him. If we were talking about the Korean scene, it would be the same as if he asked who is Freemura or Sync or even H.O.T-Forever. Plus, since most foreigners did not achieve much in Korea, they are even less memorable then their Korean counterparts.

Kespa vs Blizzard. In the fight for starcraft broadcasting. Kespa rules pro league, says which teams can play in osl msl Gomtv. They say no no, no go Gomtv when Blizzard becomes the main sponsor for it.

Good luck to Jos de Kroon.
you on drugs? because that makes no sense.
You can't be rational when a bw foreign player goes to Korea.
Especially if he is your favourite one and you are Z user :p

I hope the eSTRO members will be friendly towards him, I think IdrA complained about the atmosphere being hostile sometimes or something along those lines. Correct me if i'm wrong though :s

IdrA isn't entirely to blame. the team was run differently when IdrA was on it
He's got his work cut out for him, hope to see him climbing the ranks soon though. Hard to imagine a much more competitive environment than playing SC in Korea.

how about u go back to korea and show ret how it was run when u were there? we miss u bro
I really have a feeling that ret can make it to the A team. Estro's only noteworthy zerg is hyvaa, so the odd proleague appearance here and there might be possible. I sure do hope so.

Beating 1 b-teamer does not imply that he is a team material, You don't know what does, i don't, 99% of the people who post on teamliquid have any clue on what does.
(Disclaimer: i am a ret fan, and i want to see him succeed)
Well he played pretty straight up games (at least the ones i saw) and did reasonably well, a least I think that he is at B-level right now. I really think that there is a shot that we will se him in a proleague-game, especially like this comming spring when estro already is out of the final play-offs and they let many of their B-teamers go out and get a game.

eSTRO can give him a license. IdrA got his that way. My guess based on what we saw for Nony and IdrA would be that they'll let him take a few shots at Courage to see if he can get it on his own, and if he doesn't make it through one they'll give it to him.

Yeah that sounds about right. So there´s 10 courages/year (right?), and lets speculate that he has to participate in 2 of them before he gets a license from eSTRO (of if he actually wins one which i doubt due to his supposed lack of zvz-skill) - it pretty much blends down to if he will be able to participate in GOM for me or not...Which would be totally bad-ass!
Each proteam only has 2 free licences every season to give out, you really have to be worth it to give them out. And if you can't pass courage, are you really worth it? IdrA got his free 'cause he was getting traded to CJ, not 'cause they just wanted to give him a licence.

Correct... Daniel Lee was allowed to give 1 player a pro license so he gave it to IdrA then IdrA was immediately was picked up by CJ Entus. As far as we know IdrA lost all of his courages
is it only 1 player that gets a pro license? i had this idea that nearly all progamers were given that exempt status, as it is is so prohibitively difficult to win a courage tournament these days

Ah now I remember. I think the deal was he'd get the license if he went >50% winrate in the in-house tournament, which he accomplished.
Looking foward to see how ret goes under the pressure of Korea - he seems to have really taken off as a player since I last stopped following the foreigner scene. Best of luck to him.
