sorry for the somewhat low quality of the youtube vids, ran into an odd problem, ill try to figure it out for the next one. you can check out the higher quality one on scforall (link below).
the eSTRO team held a little winner's league - styled practice match (no, ret didn't play), and luckily Hwanni was there with the camera.
In this video you will see some ret, a bit of random discussion between ret and hwanni, the eSTRO practice room, and some FPViews during the games being played.
but i was wondering why they all didn't have LCD monitors. dont those big screens take up more electricity and mess the eyes up more? im guessing money is the issue. but if there profession is sc, i just thought updated equipment was... normal

I just thought of something, all the computers StarCraft teams have are going to have be replaced if they want to play SC2...that sucks, makes me think it might not even be worth it for them
CRTs are normally better for competitive gaming, but the new flat screens work fine for SC. older flat screen technology lags behind whats actually going on.

Older flatscreens had problems with a slight lag time to display so pro sc has never switched
Its an issue that still comes up today at lans occasionally when the organizer uses bad screens for the competitions (I remember it happening about 6 months ago at some CS event)
Awesome video! I'd love to see more of this kind of thing in the future, getting a behind the scenes peek at how these guys are in practice is great. Thanks a lot Artosis and Hwanni!
memories... rofl computers up against the window and in the center of the room now wowow. yeah ret i didnt understand when you were explaining where you sit cuz we didnt used to have a desk there :O

On a sidenote, aint hwanni a coach for Estro? If so why is he asking Ret for everyones name? Shouldnt he know them?
Hwanni is the manager of eSTRO.
Funnily enough, they only use real names in Korea. Very, very, very few of the actual ID's are known, pretty much only those who are on TV allllllllll the time (and thus type in their id about 1/2 of the time).

this just goes to show how insane the level of starcraft play has gotten
Yeah I know! It would probably get soul crushing after a few months, no wonder these kids get addicted to prostitutes or however the rekrul story went.
Wow, very cool video. They bet money on those games? I heard the camera-man say that there was 150$ on the line, is that from the players or did he have a bet with someone else?
That zerg, action I believe was so insanely fast. I was actually surprised watching Hyvaa's mutas. His concentration was 100% on the mutas and he almost never went anywhere else on the screen
all can hear in the background is a shitload of clicking hahaha.
when the monitors have moving bars and and the colours are messed, is that just from the camera? I would think so, but it looks like some of the monitors are just about to die lol.

Refresh rate of the CRTs?
And wow Really is a machine, hes so damn fast. Not JD fast though. Everytime I see a JD FPVOD feel like my head's gonna implode(Probably because he swaps so much).

Only reason was because he made a lot of speedlings early game so he literally had no drones so he had to go all in with his mutas. No time to go back and get a third and make drones.
Learned something while watching really's fpvod. He constactly while microing checks his rine production and without going back to his main goes 4m5m6m7m. Hits m with his thumb.

yeah cause replacing some PC's will bankrupt the teams
i remember from an old daniel lee interview that he used to sit upmagic and really beside each other, so that upmagic could learn really's mechanics and really could learn upmagic's strategy. it looks like classic's inbetween them now, getting a taste of both worlds
This was amazingly good. Especially the FPV of Really and his ridiculous mechanics.
Who ended up winning that bo3 between Really and hyvaa they bet on?
On December 10 2009 22:49 JoMal wrote: I love how really qued his marines with his thumb on m. I'll be practising that !
I actually do this, and used to be pretty good at it when I played more regularly. The funny thing is, my accuracy was extremely high even though I have the same type of thumbs as Megan Fox.
Me and and SCForAll just don't click, i've only been able to watch 50% of the last few videos. Part1 of ret going to courage was up on youtube for a short while, got taken down though. With that being said, nice video.
I couldn't help but feel ret was kinda being left out, but great vid anyways! Thanks hwanni for caring so much for the foreign community. These vids are priceless.
On another note, hyvaa's muta micro was pretty sick. Really's hands are really fast(though I did notice he spammed more than the others) and that zerg playing vs dear had super-efficient macro. No wonder progamers can micro so much. Macro is like breathing for them...
Been said ten thousand times before but Really has the most mind blowing speed I have ever seen from a starcraft player. What the fuck. This guy is in top shape.
Great video overall! I loved it!!!! And Ret watching Dexter instead of praticing makes it even more funny... Thanks!

Yeah and what about practice room comfort then, new and more effective computers make more heat than those slim and less powerful ones they have now. It´s gonna be a huge amount of heat in that small room unless they get some incredible cooling.
And should we know who is Hwanni?
E. oh sorry, yes I knew I had heard that name somewhere.

CRT's are worse for your eyes but they do have less lag time to render the image, a persons eyes wouldnt notice the difference but people like to have it. Money is not the issue, Older is better in this case, not sure why they care though it is more important in a FPS game to have less lag but if this is your living then i guess it does matter...

O.O at bet game, those guys don´t fool around.
Slimline computers are nicer than a lot of large desktops out there today and some are cheaper too. They might get whole mew compuiters depending on the v-cards those slims have or just upgrade the current ones with newer cards.

And you do realize you can´t just upgrade the GPU to get newer games work on comfortable settings and with comfortable FPS.
This is just amazing, probably the most awesome behind the scenes SC vid i have ever seen. Really, Fancy and UpMagiC's hands were probably the most interesting thing to watch.

Also, LCD monitors come in widescreen format. And there are probably preferential concerns with the curve of the monitor. I know I prefer the curve of a CRT for FPS games to give the illusion of depth. Having a 16 monitor for SC would change a lot, so I doubt they'll make the switch any time.
No, this WAS epic. So fun to get an insight in progamers day-to-day-routine. And damn, im feeling for ret being so lonely (it seems). Please cheer him up all you other english-speakers in korea!

Yeah, imo foreigners should start using the korean players real names too. It's kind of lame to call them Fancy or Dear and doesn't really help to professionalize E-sports.
I would rather just call all progamers by their ID's. Especially having gamers from all over the world, names can be hard to pronounce and might interupt the flow of a commentary if the name is stuttered. Most ID's are short and simple, and even fun to say.
I just find it easier to remember simple ID's than a long foreign name. It also helps that the ID's are often english words.
