From Naver Sports (Sports Q interview, where users submit questions and she answers them, mediated by a reporter), 12/24/09:
[Here are some interesting excerpts. The full interview follows.
Any celebrity you wanna spend Christmas with? - Hm... Lady GaGa? I'm a fan. Her unique personality is great, and I usually like female celebrities instead of male celebrities. She sings well too~
Favorite movie/food to eat/food to cook - Titanic? And the Lord of the Rings too. I like pizza and meat. Honestly.. I am not a good cook but I make good shrimp dishes^^ Easy to make so I made them for family sometimes.
If you can go back to the past, would you still choose being a progamer? - Possibly. I really liked games. But as I got older I've thought about missing studying. If I go back now, I would've studied. Also I was lonely a lot being the only female progamer. If I were to lead a normal life, I might have met more people.]
How's holiday going? - Just practicing. Preparing for the next year. My family plans to watch Avatar on Christmas and have dinner. It's been a while sine the last family dinner. I'm looking forward to it.
How much do you practice? With whom? - I have three four-hour practice sessions, totaling 12 hours. Sometimes I do more. I practice with the team's newcomers or people that I know online. They're not well-known, so you probably don't know them. ^^
Ever thought about changing the race? How good are you on other races? - I used to be a Protoss, so I'm good at sniping Terran with Protoss. Protoss is strong against Terran. I can use other races to fight Terran but not other races. I've played Terran for a while, so I don't plan to change. But personally, Protoss is really attractive.
Why Terran? Who's the best progamer ever, and why? - Back then there were many female progamers. To play Terran, you need to do a lot and it's a complex race. I had a fast hand, it fit my style, and I had pride in playing a race that others don't play. There're many good players, so it's hard to pick one. The end result is important for progamers, so I don't know at this point. Good progamers are the ones who are distinguished and honored when they're retired.
Any build order you like or think that it's good? Any race you're confident against? - I don't wanna reveal builds. It's a secret ^^ I have to make a living too ^^ Zerg is easy to go against. It used to be hard because there were many difficult maps. But nowadays the balance is good, and it's easy for me to do Bionic because I have a fast hand. Protoss is hard.
If you play Jaedong now, what winrate do you honestly expect? - Differences among progamers are slices of paper. The currently good ones have put a lot of effortt and luck has been good on them too. Progamers' skills have been standardized. If the build order is on my favor, I might win couple games against him because I'm a pro too.
How do you keep up with your appearance? - I don't. I don't manage my body appearance. Rather, I'm a bit weighty because I ate a lot of fast food as a kid. But thanks for thinking I look good ^^
Boyfriend? If not, ideal? - None. There're cases of successful progamers with lovers, but I have to try harder against my male progamers. A boyfriend is a luxury because I have to practice and am busy. Ideal is someone who can wait for me patiently (I don't really check my cellphone, so I don't really contact.) and understand my job as a progamer. ^^
Any progamer that fits the ideal? - They're all so young...^^ I don't see them as guys but as progamers that I have to overcome. Many younger progamers. It used to be different. ^^
Best friend in STX SouL? - Shuttle. Only person that I have the personal contact of. He's bright, so once you get to know him he's friendly. I like that kind of personality. ^^
Outside of STX? - I don't have anybody that I keep up with personally. And it's hard to befriend the Young progamers...maybe a generation gap?? ^^ I didn't really feel that kind of thing, but now I do. For example, I don't know how many members the Girls Generation has, and since I don't know those kinds of things I can't hold conversations. ^^
STX's chance of winning the ProLeague 09-10? - We'll win most definitely. We missed it by short Last season. But this season we have a good lineup on each race. We do have weaknesses, but since we're so solid I believe we can win.
When do you expect to play on ProLeague? - That's something that the coaching staff decides. I don't even practice in the team residence, so it might take a while. It's a crucial time for the team, so you can't bet on behalf of me. ^^ It's too early now. But I've been preparing hard, and though playing on ProLeague is #1 priority it's also important to focus on the individual leagues prelims.
What do you think about the Stork/Bisu/Jaedong/Flash quartet? - They got where they're now because they have put a lot of effort...it's a tough question ^^; I don't know what kind of answer you want.
Any former female progamer you're a good friend with? Who's the best progamer currently? Please don't say things like "it's hard to pick one." - JongMi. Her personality is the opposite of mine. She has really a bright personality, and our difference actually makes us fit. We weren't not friendly at first, but we have gotten closer as we played as female progamers for a long time~ hm ^^; since I'm a Terran I watch Flash's games a lot. They're often astounding, and though he lost to HyuN recently I was astonished by his play. My pick for the best progamer currently is Flash ^^
You have some history (?) with YellOw. You think you can beat him on ProLeague? - We're both pros, so I'll play thinking that I can. Whether the opponent is Young or old, nobody is easy, so I'll prepare 100%.
Any celebrity you wanna spend Christmas with? - Hm... Lady GaGa? I'm a fan. Her unique personality is great, and I usually like female celebrities instead of male celebrities. She sings well too~
Any moment in your progaming career that you enjoyed and that you regretted or wanna take back? - I enjoyed beating male progamers at prelims. ^^ A regretful moment was when I lost to non-Korean players at ESWC. I felt good after beating Chinese players, but after losing to IdrA, I cried a lot (though I don't usually cry; maybe the national pride got me.). It felt horrible.
What do you think about disrespectful comments about you online? How do you deal with them? - I have an individualistic personality, so I don't care about them. Since I'm a woman there're disrespectful comments about my appearance and so forth. But I try not to care. I Just try to focus on comments that look inside of me.
Gain and loss as a female progamer? And besides progaming, dreams for your future as a woman? - I can carry on because of my career. Something bad is that though there're progamers whose record is as good as mine but I get spotlight because I'm a woman. Dreams as a woman are probably the usual - raising kids well, living happily with a good husband... but First I need a boyfriend to think about all that ^^; I've been a progamer since I was a teen, so I haven't really thought much about that kind of things.
When you retire, do you wanna stay around progaming? - I do, but I also wanna go back to studying. My sister regrets that my studying got interrupted. Maybe I can continue working, but I can probably Study for university. My parents want that.
January became a coach. - I lack too many things to be a coach. I haven't really thought about that. I just wanna do my best as a progamer.
How should a girl go about becoming a progamer? - She needs to prepare from her early age. You need to get the license, so you need to stop thinking that you're a girl and give your everything when facing male competitors. I have been able to carry on because I won female tournaments, but I'm concerned for people who wanna start now. But if you wanna try, I'll give my best advice ^^
How do you approach this tough path? - Belief in yourself. Belief in a human's limitless potential. Some are born with skills, but if you give 100% you can get close. I have to try hard to catch up with them.
How did you feel after beating Reach at the Heritage? - I'm an old progamer too, but I started out looking up on Reach... He was what Jaedong and Flash are for young people nowadays. So it was rather an honor than an excitement when I beat him. It felt good because I had prepared everything by myself.
Any other game beside StarCraft you play? - Back when I was 20? I played Kart Rider and I was rather good ^^ But I don't play other games nowadays.
Favorite movie/food to eat/food to cook - Titanic? And the Lord of the Rings too. I like pizza and meat. Honestly.. I am not a good cook but I make good shrimp dishes^^ Easy to make so I made them for family sometimes.
If you were to transfer, which team? - I've been with STX for a long time, so I never thought about transferring. I wanna stay with STX.
If you can go back to the past, would you still choose being a progamer? - Possibly. I really liked games. But as I got older I've thought about missing studying. If I go back now, I would've studied. Also I was lonely a lot being the Only female progamer. If I were to lead a normal life, I might have met more people.
Best player at STX? - Calm who recently won a title. I've heart that Kal is good with other races too. Everybody is good ^^
StarCraft 2? - I don't know since it hasn't been released. I'll have to think about if afterwards.
When was your prime? - I would like to think that there wasn't one...but some think that when I won female tournaments was my prime. I'll trying hard, so I hope it becomes fruitful and I hope to make the prime that I think of soon.
Your sister is an actress. Becoming one yourself? Who's prettier? - I haven't thought about it. Some have offered me stuffs and I've taken lessons, but it doesn't fit my personality. My sister is cute. All three of us are pretty^^ I have a twin sister too.
Any progamer you wanna play with? - Someone has asked me what would it be like playing against Jaedong. So, Jaedong.
Your weakness and strength? - Weakness is my normality and lack of style. It's also a problem that if I like a player I go with his style. Sometimes I push myself doing that. Strength is my psychological game during multi-gamed match. I use some unusual builds and make the opponent lose confidence.
You after 10 years? - 10 years later I probably will have been married and be a pretty wife ^^
Anything you wanna accomplish before retiring? - One reason I can't retire is that I haven't accomplished anything. I have many desires and wanna achieve many dreams...I wanna win at ProLeague and also go on at individual leagues.
You like the nickname "Empress"? Any others that you like? - I like that one. I envy those who got their nicks from their styles. I don't have such because I don't have those kinds of styles. But I like "Empress" because Only I can have it ^^
How are you wrapping up 2009? - I didn't accomplish much in 2009, but I consider it a prep for 2010. I'm trying hard, so I'll show something to fans who are waiting ^^
2010 goals? - Win at ProLeague and passing individual leagues prelims. More mature and stylish personality.
Any build order you like or think that it's good? Any race you're confident against? - I don't wanna reveal builds. It's a secret ^^ I have to make a living too ^^ LOL I bet people are just dying to figure out her build order secrets.
Empress isn't a good nickname for her =/ It would make boxer look bad -_-
Any moment in your progaming career that you enjoyed and that you regretted or wanna take back? - I enjoyed beating male progamers at prelims. ^^ A regretful moment was when I lost to non-Korean players at ESWC. I felt good after beating Chinese players, but after losing to IdrA, I cried a lot (though I don't usually cry; maybe the national pride got me.). It felt horrible.
ur bad idra, makin girls cry ;( but seriously gratz on your win ^_^ nice interview!!
lol interesting read, Kinda sad, but also kind of impressive. hella dedication, been workin hard forever with minimal rewards. gotta give props to her if nothing else.

she doesn't even live with them though
So? She's still on the team. I have a lot of friends that I talk to that don't live in my house.
Idra you're a baller man. But yeah this interview made me feel pretty bad for Tossgirl. I never thought much of her before, but respect to her for persevering and dealing with all the fucked up comments made towards her.

If they talk to her, she might ask for practice games. Waste of time for the good players.

Are you and those friends pro gamers who spend all day playing starcraft for a living under contract? Its a different situation and you can't compare it to a normal life...
lmfao @ being embarrassed to the point of tears after losing to idra.
does anyone actually think that she thinks she can win a game against someone good or was she just answering questions knowing that she is just on the team for show. she doesn't actually think she has a chance at accomplishing anything significant does she?

From what i know, stx doesn't have a b-teamer house, so she's kinda like practising at home all the time... which kinda defeats the purpose of being in a pro-team no?
i'm guessing everyone is waiting aesthetically for Idra's response.

She's been watching flash playing a lot, she might just ask to play on NHBR only and get at least 1 successful bunker rush.

If she does nothing but alternate between 14CC, BBS and a normal bunker rush for 100 games, I'm pretty sure she can take games off Jaedong. It's not as unlikely as you make it sound.

Yes he did. idras a heartless son-of-a-bitch
In the wise words of Kanye West, HOW COULD YOU BE SO HEARTLESS?
Anyways cool interview, its nice to see she still believes..even though it really is an uphill battle.
On December 29 2009 07:38 MorroW[MB] wrote: i think many progamers cry after losses ^^ they put their life to this game and they die while everybody is watching them

A couple games out of 100, maybe.
I'm still cracking up that Idra made Tossgirl cry.
I like how they kept trying to get her to say who the best current progamer was and she kept dodging the question, but they kept asking her until she actually answered.
I'm good at sniping Terran with Protoss. Protoss is strong against Terran.
I feel kind of bad for her that STX is only having her practice against 'newcomers and people I know online', though.
Here's to hoping there's a female progamer who can hang at the top echelons of the game in Starcraft 2
Everytime I read an interview from Tossgirl, my respect for her increases by a lot. Just hopefully I can see her in a Proleague game and see her winning. She deserves it after so much years and effort she put in.
I admire tossgirls efforts but if she was honest in this interview she was a bit delusional. Playing against newcomers and people online... If that's her level, and seeing how she's been a progamer for quite a while, she will never be able to make it big anymore. Not even by luck. Still, she still loves the game and keeps trying so I suppose that counts for something.
I love how people in this thread are like "Tossgirl is delusional" as if she's too retarded to realize how hard it's going to be for her. Honestly though she's closer to winning a game in PL than any foreigner (except maaaaaaaybe Idra) is.
We didn't call Ret delusional for going to Korea and we wouldn't call Kolll delusional either ... also if Ret/Kolll said "if I played a lot I could take a game off Bisu" I don't think the reaction would be as negative either.
A lot of double standards here ... not really surprising but still.

I do feel bad for Tossgirl that she is unable to compete well against other male players. I have to say, I really respect her persistence and dedication to the sport.
Shame on you Idra! Pick on someone your own (cup) size! shame on you! ^^ Tossgirl you rock! Keep teaching Shuttle your mysterious tricks, it seems to help and I like the kid... or should I call him a man now?
tossgirl really needs to retire. Shes wasting her life in what can only be described as delusional ambition. Honestly, its pitiful.

How the fuck is it a double standard? People call ret and Idra delusional, first off. But secondly, Tossgirl has been doing this since like...2002? Idra's been a progamer for a year and a half. Theres a massive difference there. Tossgirl has NEVER won a kespa sanctioned game, even if we are to include prelims, matches against girls, gom etc, her win rate is still utterly pitiful. If anyones results mimicked hers we would all make fun of them and insult them. The double standard is that many are nice to tossgirl and respect her despite the fact that theres no reason to. Shes just a straight up failure that wont go away.
Lol so its not Hwasin, turns out to be shuttle. I think Idra put a bad taste in her mouth when he beat her. Maybe she couldn't stand terran players anymore so she broke up with Hwasin and went with shuttle. Either ways, Idra ur a jerk! lol
Honestly tossgirl should just join girls generation and be a backup dancer. She isn't accomplishing anything as a progamer. She has a fast hand? I didn't even know she knew how to use the keyboard.

Why are some people constantly positive? Do you not insult Juni, Hyuk, or any other random FAIL pro gamers who do shit all? Those players are infinity better than Tossgirl. Why make fun of, and shit on most progamers who suck, but defend tossgirl?
Cause you think shes hot. Pathetically base response.

She can beat you 50 out of 50 games in SC without using the keyboard... she accomplished to be the best female SC player in the world and she still takes games from progammers.. Pretty sure she earned more money than you doing what he likes the most...
She needs to just get into commentating or some other path in eSports. We all know it as well as her, I'm sure, that the progamer path is the dead end path.

Yeah, she is already mid 20's. She ain't gonna accomplish much else in terms of proleague or individual titles. Definitely another eSport path is the way to go. Pure progamer is not gonna work out.

that last picture makes her look 10 years older. and idra made her cry... haha
she said some weird things, like "First I need a boyfriend to think about all that ^^; I've been a progamer since I was a teen, so I haven't really thought much about that kind of things." Teens DO think about those things! look at savior!

They might view Tossgirl as an unworthy target.
She doesn't even play in proleague (anymore), whereas players like Juni and Hyuk are better skilled than her and actually participate in it. Sometimes they do not perform well, and people make fun of them.
I think people might see proleague as the benchmark towards what deserves their attention.
hmm good interview - maybe she should move back into the stx house? the last few years shes been practicing such long periods and not improving enough to really do much. maybe she could accomplish her goals and finally retire?

+1 Tbh I had no idea she was properly practicing and still trying hard to get to the A-team/achieve something in the individual leagues...I thought she mainly did representative stuff etc. for esports, I´m afraid she might be a little delusional
STX should send her out once. I know how every game in every match is mega important, but it would be quite neat to see her play. Send her. Send her out. Do it. Do iiiiiiit~
as hilarious as his mention is, i also think idras inclusion in this interview is AWESOME. it has to be the first time a foreigner has been mentioned without having been brought up (or having the subject brought up) by the interviewer. seriously, i dont think theres any mention in recent memory of nonkoreans. just thought that was cool.
She puts so much effort into pro-gaming, and all she is good for is looking "pretty" with LOTS of makeup. Idra might not been that much better than she is (yet), but at least he can pwn in foreign tournaments. Tossgirl ist just losing everything -.-
I dont know if i want to respect Tossgirl or feel sorry for her. She gave up alot to be progammer. I think it is good that SC1 is coming to an end now, so she can actually get some higher education later on. Nice interview btw.

Why you think she was mentioning about getting married? Her Terran bio clock is ticking away. Looks like she's about to make a timing push for marriage.
Was that idra vs tossgirl game at the same event that tasteless was casting? Cause after one of the casts, I remember there was some loud commotion in the background and then tasteless saying something like "whoa tossgirl's angry, she just threw a sign!" or something like that. Hahaha pretty hilarious...

pretty usually means high upkeep cost. look at the amount of make-up she wears all the time... i jus feel bad for her sometimes where she is seen as more as a novelty rather than a pro.

Why does anyone even care about tossgirl? She's never been any good relative to the worst of progamers and is obviously only kept around for marketing purposes. It's like being a fan of the the ShamWow guy... just doesn't make sense.

Seo Ji-Seung and one other i forgot the name of.
Name: 서지승 / Seo Ji Seung Profession: Actress Birthdate: 1988-Oct-04 Height: 163cm Weight: 40kg Star sign: Libra Blood type: B <-- What?
I never knew that biographies had this type of detail.
For whatever reason, asian cultures talk about blood types a lot, so that's why that is on there. Blood types are believed to correspond with certain personalities, etc.

She could absolutely take a few games off of Jaedong. I mean, come on: Korean pros even lose to top foreigners in international tournies from time to time. Anybody with workable mechanics can realistically take games from players much better than themselves -- the difference is that the chances of winning games in succession are diminuitive. The fact that skill is generally rewarded in Starcraft but that the game is still dynamic enough for there to be plenty of surprises and unpredictabilities along the way is exactly what makes the game so suitable as a spectator sport. Seriously, people, no need to mock her. She knows she's not in Jaedong's league, but she also understands how the game works.
Other than that, I agree that part of the interview is very sad. What I found especially gulp-worthy was her implying she basically had no contact to anyone outside of the team, and that the rest of the team refused to play her.
The fact that she's a member of STX, which has pretty much the deepest lineup of any pro team, also isn't helping. I don't see how she can honestly expect to break into the PL lineup with Bogus, Hwasin, and CuteAngel all ahead of her. Who knows how good their other B-team Terran players are even.

The blood type? I assume Korea is the same as Japan, in that they associate certain personality types with some blood types. Kinda like star signs.
This bullshit belief came with Japan fascist era, before and during the WW2 and they never got rid of that. They were trying to get as many inneist crap which were going alongside with their racist ideology. Apparently in some Asian country, you even have to put it on your cv for things like job interview. That's pretty awfull because it means something completely random which you cannot change at all will decide what people thing about you.

That's really a sad sad sad bullshit.
Well we do treat it like a horoscope kind of way now. So its not that surprising that blood type would be something fans would want to know.
Even though she's relatively bad, I still respect her hard work and desire to succeed.
It takes an incredibly competitive soul to excel at SC, she's about as good as a girl can get at that bit. It's unfortunate that only boys get that really competitive edge that's needed to become truly great at things like this.
And to all the people who think she looks older, fuck off. She's as pretty as always.

yeah chicks like to ask guys what their blood type is to see if they "match" with each other. My Korean ex did that shit. I thought she was vampire or something until I googled it.
