I always wonder how KeSPA ranking is calculated. Does anyone have any clue?
|
|
Rofl, so much zerg in the top. Flash is seemingly the only one capable of cracking the hive's shell.
Amusingly, if Jaedong doesn't win the MSL and Flash wins the OSL this month (Finals is still this month, correct?) He should pass up JD.
Lux fell 10 places? I didn't think he was doing that poorly. I'm pretty sure his MSL win is still viable, but if he doesn't start working it, once that goes away, he's a dead man.
Also -- Violet! Only below Roro because Roro gets triple the ace matches, despite losing them. Atleast Violet's ace winrate is still 100%!
Probably the best Proleague, Protoss sniper around.
|
Both Turn and Stats jump 30 ranks, Upmagic drops 7 and Lux drops 10. Ouch.
|
|
lol type-b and Yarnc are still pretty high there.

In keeping with the 'months behind' nature of these rankings, KeSPA is belatedly celebrating swarm season.

How the hell did Bisu drop 3 spots. It just doesn't make sense. He won a decent ammount of games this month and why the hell is Kwanro and Zero up when they lost alot of their games in the proleague. It just seems to me that the rankings are becoming more and more inaccurate and not based on a players skill but rather just on appearance.

Zero and Kwanro beat higher ranked players.

bisu dropped out from 2 starleague early ....

Also yeah, Jaedong gained 300 points! That's really impressive. Had he not Flash, who gained 800, would've been within 200 points. :o
It all comes down to the leagues, now. Did Flash's wins over Calm count for this or not? If not then I could see him coming even more ridiculously close after that solid 3-1.
Amusingly, Flash also misses out on a lot of points because KT almost always wins 3-0/3-1, or loses 1-3. Or they send Violet who's got as many ace appearances as Flash this season. :x
I also think it's very telling that he just recently beat the #1, #3 and the #5 in series this season. He also beat the #4 in a series in WCG. Out of all of these games, he went 9-2. FvZ, babbeh.

I don't like how there 5 zerg in the top ten. What an ugly sight.
|
Jaedong is still no.1 lol.. At least Flash is catching up..
Too bad Bisu and Lux dropped alot..
|
I hope Jaedong can maintain that no.1 spot for at least another month (he most likely has to win the MSL to do so though). That way he will equal JulyZerg's 11 month reign (he's already far surpassed Savior's 8 months). The way Flash has been playing I doubt Jaedong can retain that no.1 place though.

An era is a commonly used word for long period of time. In chronology, an era is the highest level for the organization of the measurement of time.
|
I'm just saying, 2 seasons of pure zerg winning tournaments. That's six months. That's an era.
And there's still more high level zergs than high level protoss and terran combined at this point.
|
perhaps the zergs are just playing better? top 10 has 5z, 3t, 2p top 20 has 7z, 7p and 6t, pretty even to me top 30 has 11z, 11t, 8p

either that, or the maps are favorable to zergs. either way, flash amazingly stands out, thats my point.

I actually think the KeSPA ranking are pretty good for their purpose. I haven't read exactly how it calculates, but I know its heavily based on results such as topX in a starleague.
However, it's not good if you actually want to know who is the best at this very moment, but I don't think thats the purpose of it. If you win a league or score high results you will gain points and that reward stay with you for a while.
It shows achievements rather than if you played good or not. Achievements is really what its all about in the end.

You're gonna be pretty upset when he wins OSL (given, shine and movie I mean come on) and then beats Jaedong Bo5 in MSL. (:

I expect to see you at the very top, sitting on your throne of Zerg corpses in February, Flash!

That will only happen if Jaedong loses against Stats or Kal/Hwasin. Otherwise Jaedong should earn enough points to keep his #1 till March (longer if he wins the MSL).
|
the zerg era is over now, zergs need to reinvent their zvt, like stop throwing ultras at mass tanks late game and have them all dead before they even reach the tanks

If jaedong doesn't win a title and Flash does, Flash will pass him up. Bar none. Him winning a title requires him beating a top Kespa player in a Bo5, + 500 points for winning.

Flash can have the OSL, but I'm realllly rooting for Jaedong to win the MSL. Actually, come to think of it, if Flash and Jaedong met in the MSL Finals it would be bigger than Alabama vs Texas o.O

If flash gets double SL win his gain will be hardcore, especially coupled with PL domination. I wonder what it will look like.

The only thing it's a sign of is that other zergs finally wisened up and started mimicking Jaedong. When the other races get someone as dominant as he is they'll improve as well.
You must know by now that most players just copy/paste. There are very few visionaries.
And imo, terran is still imba towards zerg, the top zerg players are just better than most of the top terran players at the moment

Something about each month's wins/losses being worth a certain amount, and that value dropping each month and finally disappearing after a year.

The top 20 players by peak ELO, straight from TLPD. Parenthesized number is their age when they hit their peak ELO:
Flash (17) Bisu (19) Jaedong (19) iloveoov (20) NaDa (18) sAviOr (19) EffOrt (18) fantasy (18) JangBi (19) YellOw (19) GoRush (20) BoxeR (21) Stork (19) Calm (20) July (18) BeSt (19) ChoJJa (18) XellOs (19) Midas (17) Hwasin (19)
Flash is currently at his peak, but he's 17. The only other player in the top 20 who peaked at 17 was Midas. Jaedong is currently 19, but he'll be 20 in 4 days (who's up for a party?!). The only player who wasn't on the downhill of their career during their 20th year was Boxer.
The chances that Flash doesn't continue to improve are just as low as the chances that Jaedong improves. Flash will pass Jaedong within the year, virtually guaranteed.
--oberon
EDIT: Also, anyone who cares should note that the "current age" in TLPD is off by one for Jaedong, but not everyone. Some sort of bug in there...

How do you measure imba, though? If there aren't many Terrans who can stand up to the top Zergs, how does that then translate to T>Z imbalance? Map stats probably show that there's still a slight T>Z imba among non-A+/S-class players, but I think the very top players are playing on a field that looks more like:
Z = T Z > P P > T
Hence so many Zergs, a decent number of Protoss, and almost no top Terrans (Flash and Sea are the only Ts I would call 'top players' right now, compared to like 8-9 Zergs and 7-8 Protosses).
|
What?
Number of Terrans with vZ ELO above 2100: 10 Number of Zergs with vT ELO above 2100: 7
Number of Terrans with vZ ELO above 2050: 21 Number of Zergs with vT ELO above 2050: 12

That's the most recent example.
But that was last season, and Kespa ranking a lot of zergs at the top reflects that they are in fact a season slow at updating their ranks. Right now Protoss is doing almost as well as zerg, whereas Terran is floundering so much lately that they don't even get to play vs zergs (ala 2 Terrans in OSL ro16).

Haha, I wonder what would happen if Flash lost the OSL... Plus Shine/Movie OSL finalists would be almost as sad if not worse that Kwanro in the MSL finals ... But I really think Shine deserves it, and if he won it, it would be a sight to see.

Yeah, I was talking about this seasons. KeSPA is usually 2-3 months "slow". Terrans are looking the weakest right now overall. And not because of protoss killing them (which they are) but in all MUs.

That's part of why Flash is so insane -- he's not just #1 ELO, he's #1 ELO and *young*. I wish historical ELOs were available to show how important this is. To give you an idea, Calm was Flash's current age in 2006. 2006!

I'm not sure if age is as strong of an indicator as you think it is. If you have the time, could you check when they reached their peak ELO relative to when they broke into the scene?

What are you trying to say? Same to the guy who said he only believes it's equal for S-class players. If we look at the top of each race, Flash's vZ ELO is almost 100 points higher than JD's vT ELO. So... TvZ is balanced for the guys ranked 2-4?
I'm not saying that ELO can conclusively say there is an imbalance but... yeah. It works for ZvP (Z's have higher ELO average vP) and PvT (P's have higher ELO average vT) too.

That depends on what "broke into the scene" means. Their first game in TLPD? That's probably the closest approximation I can get, and I can do that if anyone cares. I strongly suspect it won't be relevant, however -- when age correlates so strongly with peak, it doesn't matter if it's causative or not -- it's probably going to continue to correlate.

Flash surpassing Jaedong in three months is a realistic projection. Jaedong and Flash have similar performance in proleague. Although Flash knocked Jaedong out, it was at the round of 8, and Jaedong is almost guaranteed to be a MSL finalist. Even double starleague wouldn't be enough to overtake Jaedong, for now.
I project that in 2011, Flash will break 4000 Kespa and destroy starcraft because it got so imba, nobody wanna watch it anymore.
