- Your feelings on being the first player to qualify for the semis in both leagues two seasons in a row? ▲ I’m very happy that I was able to get to the semis for both leagues two seasons in a row. Lately I’ve been so busy that I forgot that I had gone to the finals for both leagues last season, but I will work doubly harder so that I can set the more impressive record of getting to the finals of both leagues two seasons in a row.
- Did last week's loss have an effect on you? ▲ I just thought that I lacked a lot. Last time we had a long game with battlecruisers so I prepared hard to get revenge using battlecruisers again today but I’m happy that I was able to win without the game extending that far.
- Do you think your wealth of experience with BoX matches helped? ▲ Since it was MVP’s first time in a BoX, I thought that I was at an advantage, so I purposely prepared my builds the way I did to utilize that fact, and it worked out as I planned.
- Who do you want to meet in the semis? ▲ Both free and HiyA are strong players so I believe either player would be a challenge, so I’ll just prepare very hard so that I could show really good games for the fans.
- Did you come prepared with the proxy rax builds? ▲ I did plan that. Because I was behind 0:1, I expected MVP to 14cc at least one game. Because of this I prepared a proxy rax build. In that way I think the two games worked out perfectly.
- If your proxy rax build was defended in the 2nd set, were you still planning on using it again in the 3rd set? ▲ That was my original plan. I also prepared for a management game if it lead to that so I was overflowing with confidence today.
- Then do you think the games today ended far earlier than you expected? ▲ It did end a lot sooner than I expected so I was a bit surprised, but since I have an OSL match tomorrow I think it’s a relief.
- Have you prepared a lot for your OSL match tomorrow? ▲ I prepared a LOT. Because I practiced at the expense of playing in the proleague, I believe it’s only right that I advance in both leagues to repay my team. Because I practiced so much, I’m confident I can win tomorrow as well. For now, after reaching the semis in both leagues, in order to repay my team I want to take this momentum and carry it over to my next proleague match as well..
- Do you have anything you want to say after Stork’s interview yesterday? [t/n: + Show Spoiler [Stork's interview statement] +On May 06 2010 23:35 Milkis wrote: The "controversial" Stork Line, better translated. This is a little bit more stinging.
"I learned about it watching the KT players coming into the waiting room. After seeing the player that is considered the best not playing in order to practice for individual leagues in a situation where every team is concentrating on the proleague, I wondered if he was lacking a little confidence. I'm not sure if the team purposely didn't let him play or if it was requested by himself, but I was very disappointed. Back when my schedule was full, I prepared and play for both my individual and proleague games. I wanted to play him today, so I prepared my Terran matchup, so it was a bit more disappointing for me."
"I really wanted to play against Flash today in one of my matchups. While you can only know the results after playing, I am confident that I am able to win. I watched in the SKT vs KT game fantasy being too happy. I thought he was being too happy since he only managed to beat flash once, and while everyone speaks as if Flash is some unbeatable opponent, I think otherwise. While Flash is a good player, he is not an unbeatable opponent. So that's why, if I am given a chance, I wanted to play Flash to win in order to show that Flash is indeed beatable. There are the 5th round games left, and if the chance is there, I definitely want to play against Flash and play a great match."
▲ I was just a bit surprised. My teammates told me to read his interview so I did and I was a bit taken aback. But after reading it again, I thought he must have said that because I am still lacking as a player. Next season if a situation like this arrives again, I will make sure I play in the proleague match as well. I think this was just a result of my lack as a player.
- Do you think he said that because you have such a large presence nowadays? ▲ If that was indeed the case, I think that would be better for me. However, after reading the interview, I don’t think he said that because he was jealous but rather, he was just being straightforward with his thoughts. To be honest, I was a bit hurt, but I plan on getting over it acknowledging my lack as a player. Quite frankly, I wasn’t confident I could play 3 days straight in both leagues and the proleague so I made that request to the coaching staff, and the team gave me a break from one match as well. By next season when I have attained even more confidence, I believe I will be able to play in all three leagues and win.
- Between winning the OSL your third time or winning the MSL for the first time, which are you more concerned with? ▲ I would have to say the golden mouse is on my mind more. However, I do want to win both. Becoming a league champion is something everyone desires, so to have to pick one is very difficult. I’ll prepare extremely hard for both, and though winning one of the two would be great, I definitely want to win both.
- Did your experience playing in the finals of both leagues last season help? ▲ It did. After the MSL finals last season the manager told me, “just think of it as an experience that won’t happen again”, saying “you can only go up from here”, and I think that helped a lot. I will take last season’s experience to strengthen me as I try to win both leagues this season as well.
- Is there a particular player you want to face if you get to the finals? ▲ I would have to say Jaedong hyung. Because I was so regretful after last season’s finals, I want to be able to achieve a great win this time.
- Last words you want to say? ▲ I want to thank Barracks who despite the fact that it was the team’s day off stayed behind and helped me practice. I will make sure that I do well tomorrow as well. Also, KT fans sent some Chunhaeyang and a set of fruit to our house and they were quite delicious. Thank you.

Calm, "My mind is just focused on getting to the finals""In the semis I want to play Jaedong again"
- Your feelings on finally reaching the semis again after two seasons? ▲ I’ve reached the semis, and because I’m able to play a zerg as my opponent in the semis I’m happy. The only thing on my mind is how much I want to reach the finals.
- How were today’s games? ▲ To be honest in the first few games, I made a lot of micro mistakes. Because of this, I wasn’t able to play as I desired so I believe I advanced difficultly.
- After the 4th set, there was a pause. (t/n: there was a pause after the 4th set because great couldn’t drone drill to his back expo because he couldn’t see the geyser – january demanded a replay - apparently she raised this issue during the match but the ref didn’t do anything about it; afterwards, ref questioned why great didn’t just pause the game right then and there, to which january's rage increased even more. great’s replay showed he indeed couldn’t see the geyser, but Kespa ref ultimately announced it was a mis-micro on great’s part – they showed that with precise micro, it is possible) ▲ While battling because there are a lot of nerves involved, I believe anyone could make a mistake like that. Depending on where you are on the map, I knew that cases like that were possible. At first, I too struggled with the same issue, but after continually playing, I got used to it.
- After winning the Avalon MSL, you dropped out in the Ro32 the next season – do you feel nervous this season at all? ▲ I believe every player has a period he does well and also a period he doesn’t perform that great – I think that’s just human (laughs). I feel it’s a relief I’ve able to advance this far again, and I want to go even further.
- After losing sets 2 and 3 did you feel flustered? ▲ Because I lost so vainly in the first two sets I thought today’s match would be really difficult to win as I entered set 4, so it was a huge relief that I won. To be honest, I did feel that it would be a really hard situation for me to get out of.
- How much luck do you think was on your side? ▲ I’ve always thought advancing requires a bit of luck. The person that wins always needs some luck following them.
- Before the 5th set, there was a really long break (t/n: see above pause issue) – what were you thinking then? ▲ Honestly I’ve always thought it’s more advantageous for the winner of a game to start playing the next set right away but I tried not to think about it too much – instead I focused on the build I prepared, and the coaches also told me not to pay too much attention to it because it seemed that it was my opponent’s fault. I just kept thinking about the fifth set.
- Who do you want to play in the semis? ▲ I want to play a zvz with Jaedong in the semis again. I believe Jaedong is the top zerg player right now, and though I don’t think that fact will change even if I win, if I could beat someone of his caliber I believe it’d be a feat in itself. I want to beat him and at least catch up to his feet (laughs).
- Last words you want to say? ▲ hero, Modesty, and yCh[z-zOne] all helped me in practice. yCh[z-zOne] especially helped me practice as if it were his own league game so I want to say thank you.

Quote to help put things in perspective:
On May 07 2010 10:39 MrHoon wrote: Let me clear some shit up about Stork and Fomos
Fomos (and Esports Daily at a certain extent) is known to exaggerate the shit out of interviews once in a while. Remember the Kwanro vs Stork interview? Well Kwanro and Stork had a chance to talk to each other on the show "뒷담화" (starcraft backstage-talk) and both players said that the interviews seemed very exaggerated from the original and both players had no hard feelings for each other.
To me, the previous interview is either once again manhandled by Fomos Staff or Stork was being brutally honest.
Also another thing, when I read the whole Stork interview I wasn't OMGSHOCKED or anything, this is how stork does every interview in Korea since 2006. It's just that how we looked at Stork from 2006-2008 changed dramatically from how we look at Stork 2008-Now (nobody seems to remember Stork was the most hated progamer on TL for a loooonnngggg time). Foreign people just love stork while Koreans still bash him. Some criticize Stork for being unprofessional, while we the foreign audience find all his actions 'badass' at a certain extent.
Stork is a progamer who's condition of play relies 99% on confidence. When stork is even a little unconfident everything he does is absolute shit. But if Stork starts getting on a roll he starts raping shit. This is how Stork just rolls.
FUNFACT: Do you want to know the real reason why Stork was laughing during Kwanro vs Stork when kwanro all-in'd? Was it to mock Kwanro? No! Infact here is what really happened. The week before the OSL game, Stork was practicing PvZ game on Fighting Spirit to play against Kwanro. Stork lost almost every single game. That's right, Stork's lategame PvZ wasn't up to par from his teammates. Stork raged so hard because it was the only decent map to play PvZ on. Instead Stork just practiced all-ins from Zergs because that was the only thing he had confident in. And when Kwanro all-in'd, Stork was so happy. He couldn't believe his eyes when the only thing he practiced for happened in real life. That is why Stork was laughing. (source is 뒷담화, just go to ongamenet.com and look for the KAL OSL Episode)
That said, I honestly think the journalist misinterpreted what Stork said during an interview and they decided to just spice it up because everybody wants a source of Drama. But then again if this was what Stork really said I wouldn't be a single bit surprised. He is a player who flows with the waves of confidence he earns or loses.
PS: to that guy asking about if Stork is being Flamed; the whole Khan team is being flamed by mostly Kal/Clam/Flash fans because of MSL and PL lol.
Anyway, as always, feedback appreciated and welcome!

Lol. Flash so modest to stork's comment.

That was a quite long interview, nice!
Thanks for translating!

lol stork little baby is crying, cant played flash and win when he has no time to practice.. pathetic

Wow, Flash's response to Stork's comment was awesome, but I hope he doesn't seriously start overburdening himself as a result O_O

If Stork causes Flash to burn out I'll seriously hate him for life.
Wtf, Stork never had to play in Pl and two bo5s in a row.
|
I really hope flash was just being polite. He already is the best player in PL by far, Stork should be happy if he has half of Flash's wins by the end of R5 =p Imo Stork came off as someone who wanted to play flash in a match that didn't matter (for flash) being super prepared while flash was saving strats for pure just so that he could go nanana I beat flash nanana. I really appreciate good manner but I think flash took it too far, he just should have told Stork off.

Stork's comments weren't that bad, it just seems bad because pro-SC is so ultra-hyper-mannered. Stork is one of the few with the balls to say what he feels, and even then it doesnt compare at all to the sledging in other sports.

That was pretty low of Stork to say that... but Stork probably doesn't know the burden that the Child Labor Terran has had to endure in his team

Anyway I agree that Flash probably deserved a break, but people shouldnt freak out so much over a little extremely light smack talk from Stork, it's all just a bit of fun, makes SC more interesting IMO

Stork is probably just disappointed that he didn't get to play Flash. But given that Stork is a hyung, Flash responded that it was all his fault "lacking as a player" It's funny how the best SC player in the world still thinks he is lacking. No wonder he is that good

yeah, except your counter doesn't make sense at all. Of course stork had some busy schedule, too. But the point is that he indeed missed a proleague match in this time as well. Which is exactly what he is blaming flash for. Still, don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a big deal. But your argument is just invalid.

Oh, that was the MSL finals vs Bisu, and the 3rd place match vs Flash, he also had 2 bo5s back to back in the semis vT too.
People forget that once upon a time Stork was the top PL player in 2007, and khan was a one man team, + he was raping up individual leagues, and he would end up choking in them.
Fuck I quoted myself, I wanted to click edit. Sorry

Nah i guess its just Stork's character. Anyone remembers how baller he was against kwanro? I knew his interview included some remarks about Kwanro, however Kwanro isn't as loved as Flash so at that point of time everyone was shouting Stork baller. Now he did it against Flash, everyone thinks hes whining but i think its just his character. He seems to say out his thoughts more than other progamers in the interviews

np man.
Stork might have had a tough schedule in the past. Sometimes he skipped PL and sometimes he didn't. He shouldn't have said such things about flash is my first thought, because Flash is the player whos been overworked the most over the years due to KTFlash, but I think this matter will be settled in storks next interview.
I'm glad Flash skipped PL. His performance today was awesome and I don't think pure will stand a chance.

After the series with MVP, Flash seems quite back to his form. Snatching chances and advantages whenever he sees one and holds it until his opponent concedes.

if flash would have only shown up, stork probably would have played the ace for khan, and kt's "sending hoejja" strategy would have worked. it was miscalculation of the coaches to let flash stay at home, but not playing him was very okay.
therefore i also say, the staying at home is very disrespectful towards fans, enemies, pl-management and the own team.
but if he really needed those 3 hours... god knows why... i will have to back flash up anyways. whatever.

Hey Stork, if you truly want to play against flash, just get to a starleague finals. Odds are, you'll encounter him at some point.

hahahaha does Stork not remember when he sat out of weeks of matches in the 09 PL not because he was overworked, but because he was playing poorly? At least Flash has a legit reason not to appear in his team's lineup…
I understand Stork was frustrated not to be able to play Flash but I think it was really low to disparage him for deciding to focus on his individual league play. It's not as if KT is not a team worthy of the Proleague if Flash isn't in its lineup.
oh yeah, and maybe Stork should have spent more time on KHAN's bench during his individual league runs. Then perhaps he'd have a trophy case to rival Flash's. lol get out of here Stork

Well, you also have to count the ride to the stadium and back, some teams aren't really that close to the MBC stadium and OGN center. (I don't know if KT is near or not) But seriously, Flash could use all the rest he gets

OK guys check this out lololol
Stork had a ridiculous stretch of games in late 2008, needing to prepare for two OSL Bo5s, an MSL Bo5 and Bo3, and a GOM Bo3. You can find those games here.
Khan had a Proleague match in the midst of this. It was against eSTRO. It went to the ace match.
Guess who didn't appear in the lineup or the Ace match? :D :D :D

Indeed. When I was reading Stork's interview, I was thinking OK, you place PL higher then SLs, that your thing. But generaly I felt like Stork had right to say it, eventhough I totaly disagreed with him, because there is no other player who does for his team what Flash has been doing for years (only JD comes close).
But now, when it's clear that Stork did the same thing for which he criticized Flash...what a hypocrite!
It's possible he just wanted to score a win against weakened and tired Flash and was pissed that he didn't have the chance. I really don't want to believe it, but it's kind of hard given the circumstances.
Anyway, if this isn't somewhat cleared up in the future (and I really hope it will be!), Stork lost a lot of my respect. Hypocrisy is one of the most despisable thing.
|
Except Stork actually had twice as many games then as Flash now. Also, this was years ago, he could've changed his mind and play proleague today. W/e, I don't ever give a shit about this.

As far as I know, they are friends. Stork must have known that Flash is the most overworked progamer in history and that he was really depressed for a while. I would never say such things about a friend of mine. There must be some misunderstanding...

You have to give props to Flash for taking stork's comments with grace. He could have easily called stork a douche and wrote him off, using his skill or any other amount of justification to do so. However, he immediately mentions that it is his own lacking and accepts responsibility for it - That is quite impressive.

That will simply shut him up.
Forever.
He's like the only provocative speaker left in the Korean scene out of the active players. His interview has about 1200 replies to it. About 1/4th is "STORK BALLER", 1/2 going "Man I love you and all but that's a too extreme", the other 1/4th is like Flash fans.
Fixed it for ya.

Great interview by flash. Seems like all Flash needed was a bit of a break (skip one proleague) and he is on tear again
Go Flash!!!

if flash ascends to yet another level of monstrosity, we can only have stork to blame...

Wow, so Great basically got screwed by positional imbalance? (I know he was 12pool vs 12hatch but still).

thank flash should retired from sc1 after he wins both OSL/MSL and play sc2

Flash was down 0-1, I think if it was me, I would ask for a break too. Anyway he has been carrying the team so far, so I don't think it is a very... selfish reason? Ah, I forgot the word to describe..
And I think Stork can't stand every1 looking up to Flash, kkk. Maybe when he watched his replay or VODS he finds his skill level is just as good but when sum1 beat flash, so happy. When somebody beat him, amazing but not as happy.
Ah, just my thought.

It wasn't because he was down 1 that he took the time off, it was the fact that there were 2 back to back Bo5's to prep for. He didn't play last season when prepping for his finals. Stork didn't play when his schedule was crazy either. This isn't really anything out of the ordinary.

Disappointed that Stork didn't play Flash, he mentioned he had prepared strategies specifically for such a confrontation, and an epic game could easily have been produced(Stork & Flash have a history of creating exciting games). Also I am very excited for the upcoming games between Calm and Flash, their showdowns also tend to create incredible games(see Day 9's cast of Calm vs Flash).

Flash plays Hiya or Free in the next round. The only place he can meet Calm is the finals, and Calm has to get through either Midas or Jaedong first, which I seriously doubt will happen.

I think Calm definitely has a chance in either of those games, ZvZ is one of his strong matchups, and he can beat Midas pretty easily...anyways I'm hoping that he does manage this, because that is my dream finals, moreso even than a Flash vs Jaedong finals, considering how disastrous the last one of those was...

Let me clear some shit up about Stork and Fomos

Stork's trap has been set, Everything will go, just as planned?

Stork is highlighting there a rather unspoken-of trend in the progaming scene. Something we saw with Nony vs Idra. Practise isn't fucking everything.
Starcraft skill doesn't magically disappear if you don't play an extra three hours. If you think you need those three hours, then you are probably lacking in confidence, which is exactly what Stork said.
Practise is very important for preparing builds and timings, and determining how to play those builds against the variety of possible responses. But a superior player is still going to be playing with the same brain, with the same SC habits, with the same basic level of micro to work with.
Stork wants to feel superior to flash for being more of a "winging it" player, and frankly I think that is an admirable trait.
His hypocrisy is disappointing though, given that people have pointed out that back in 08 he didn't play PL when he was busy either =(
|
lol, everyone wants to play jaedong... until it actually happens!

Love how this thread was NOT supposed to be a Flash vs Stork fanboy-off, and yet here we find just that.

It's not just practice, its just rest. Flash has a very busy schedule and hes probably exhausted from travel and practice. If he can take even a few hours to rest and not carry his team it will help him.

Saying that humbleness is a common Asian trait probably counts as stereotype or generalization, but hardly (by itself) as racism. Blindly calling any statements about cultures or ethnic groups "racist" is inflammatory and counterproductive.

When your gamestyle is as timing dependent as Flash, you need the practice. No other terran can pull of Flash's version of the fake double constantly since they always miss the timings. If he doesn't practice, Flash can actually take a break for once instead of peddling the kids bike that keeps KT chugging along.
Its likely why Stork spends half of the time losing games in the most pathetic ways because he simply doesn't prepare enough. Despite Stork being one of the best protoss players ever, I just can't take him seriously like Bisu or Reach because this interview persona (however exaggerated it might be) seems to leak into his gameplay. If he had the same drive as Flash or Jaedong, he'd probably have the golden mouse right now but instead a fifteen year old kid humiliated him in his best matchup and a guy who wasn't too great at ZvP completely walked over him.

in a usual match, flash would bash both mvp and pure without any sort of training, probably without knowing the map;-) however, we know that starleagues is the only thing flash's parents care about, and i think flash is very very very very very scared of being cheesed out, therefore he trains so much.
btw, did stork say "flash lacks as a player" or "flash lacks as a sportsman" ?

The results of the games they play against each other prove nothing about practise trends in pro scene.
Flash seemed to feel those three hours were important. Are you more informed than him on matters of Starcraft? I don't think so.

@J1: Agreed. We don't actually know if Stork is more naturally skilled than Flash or the other way around but we know that Flash is extremely committed and hard-working to fulfill his goals. I cannot deny that Flash's uncanny game sense is acquired by constant practice and study of the game.
But then again, "perfect practice makes perfect". Since there is not much difference in the time of practice for progamers, Flash must definitely have some innate ability to extract to detail the things he learned from practice to prepare for (almost) every situation and perfect his play.

Of course Stork is more naturally talented when Flash just tears up both individual leagues plus proleague. He wants to take freetime from one game and Stork actes like he is pissed off when he is actually very reliefed that he didn't have to be destroyed by Flash, even tho he practised for that one match harder than any other match he ever played.

The winner spoiler is more for theatrics - everyone should know not to click on these interview threads if they haven't watched the games.
