Liquipedia is one year old! Celebrate the birthday of our favourite encyclopedia with us!
As a means of celebration, we are issuing an article contest. The first prize is a Hwaseung Team shirt, as has been showcased in lilsusie's efforts to bring progaming swag to the community.
Rules. 1. Write or improve any one article on Liquipedia I or Liquipedia II. If you choose to improve a page, it should be a major, notable improvement that can easily be recognized as work of your doing.
This servers a dual purpose. One, we do not want two great versions of the same article that cannot be combined with each other. Two, we will give the advantage to anyone who works in public, that is, announces his project and does it bit by bit, allowing others to learn from him. Liquipedia is about working together and learning from each other, so if you work in hiding, you are acting against our principles.
Your userpage is situated at wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/User:Aesop (exchange "Aesop" with your username). If you never logged in to the wiki before: The info is the same as on teamliquid.net. You can create subpages with slashes, such as wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/User:Aesop/Bisubuild
4. Liquipedia/TL Staff is not eligible for participating.
5. The winner will be picked by a mix of Liquipedia staff and regular TL staff.
6. Working as a team is fine, the shirt will go to whoever you pick or we will throw the dice.
7. The contest starts today (6-6) and ends in three weeks (28-6) at 00.00 KST.
Great idea! Props to the liquipedia team and to lilsuzie! Any edits I do would soley be graphical because I'm really not up to snuff on things about the pro scene or advanced strategy.
Sweet prize and contest! I'm thinking of doing something to liquipedia II, not sure what yet, but with three weeks to work, it should be awesome . Happy B-day liquipedia!
Just wondering, so its ok if I do a write up on a single player. because I think its important to have profiles on who are the potential new Bisus/Boxers/Saviors. I'm thinking about writing on snow since he's been getting so much attention, But hearts say I should write about an skt player. But either way, I can do a write up on any player and that can count? (note:i'll announce the player/topic later today)

Yup, you can improve any article you like, whether it be a Korean or a foreign player, strategy or a unit page, or anything in between.
Strategy - Find a lacking strategy or create your own with reasonings, build orders and advice on how to execute the build correctly. Remember to source some replays from top players! Even in beta, good articles like 2 Hatch Hydra (vs. Protoss) can be made. Players - Found your favourite player on Liquipedia, but the information is lacking? Take a delve into their past and add their league information, statistic any stories about them, pictures and whatever else you can find! Use Jaedong as a guideline for how great these pages can be. Starleagues - Take a look at the MSL page. Pretty blank isn't it? Why don't you make it yourself? You can find all the results you need on TL, why not add your own? Make a write-up about the event round by round. Flesh out your chosen starleague with short battle reports, there's a lot you can do here! Take a look at 2009 NATE MSL for an example.
These are just a few options! There's also Spells, Abilities, 2v2 Strategies and lots of other things. There's never been a better reason to add to the Wiki!
I'm going to write about Protoss vs. Protoss in the Liquipedia II. I will be covering a whole spectrum of builds, timings, etc.
Sidenote:
do we need to be knowledgeable in like coding and stuff? Because I'm looking at this right now, I'm kind of confused. Anyone help? What I want to do is make basically a Guide, like this page for Liquipedia I:

This will get you started on making pages. If you need any help with coding just let us know (but tbh it isn't very difficult - even I can do it ^_^ )
Aight ty very much sir!
Just for contest clarifications sake, I'm doing a whole Protoss vs. Protoss guide for Liquipedia II, like I mentioned in my earlier post... Just wanted to post again to clarify, making sure I follow contest rules
Would an article on Pirates of Space be a contender? There's nothing written there about them other than under the MBC Game page where it's mentioned as a previous team name. Also how do you guys go about finding out information without fluency in Korean?
I think this is a great idea and hope I can take part!

Not gonna participate because of finals, but some suggestions: An article on the match fixing scandal and updating player's profiles might be in order. Although I'm not sure how likely that will be chosen to win.

There are absolutely no restrictions on what you could write about, and if you write an informative, well-documented article about match fixing, it might earn you the price.
Doing the early history of a proteam is a great project too. There are also many player pages that could be improved, for example the early generations of foreigners in Korea Portal:Foreign Scene.

I wouldn't approve of "an Protoss unit" >:|
Haven't you heard? the first two letters of 'Protoss' are silent, so it's completely grammatically sound!
I have a problem with this, first that I cant edit my own page, second, that hes submitting my material in a contest.
It also is a problem if the main page becomes less concise just so its differentiated enough to be KNyTTyM's material, just for this contest.
if he makes a valid improvement, then power to him, and its all good, but I'm pretty sure the page has already reached perfection.
Its not really a big deal, but I wont contribute anymore if my work's integrity is compromised.
If you want to keep editing this page I'll move it to your userspace also, in the end we can combine both your contributions in one big pile of awesome. And about work's integrity.. you have to understand that a wiki is open source, which is the beauty of it: everyone can contribute. So quite literally there are no "my" articles. As Aesop explained in the podcast though, that's not a bad thing, I hope you don't stop contributing!
i'll do the winnings page. would love to make it sexy and usefull but just can't find the time right now good thing somebody bumped this thread, i missed it when it was announced
A good idea would be to include his appearance in the show "Hyungjoon becomes a progamer". He played a big role in that show and you could describe funny/amazing/memorable moments of his.

Why don't you do it? A lot of coaches are former players, so you can definitely find some stuff on them. Some coaches might be more obscure, but you only need to do one article!
My recent works in Liquipedia — the Leagues: Bigfile MSL, Korean Air Starleague 2010 Season2 (check Preliminaries! it was huge work with Groups N–Z, you know!), Proleague 09–10. And JD’s article, ofc.

I'm not a native speaker so my English skills are pretty poor. Therefore, I wouldn't even be able to scratch the line of quality I set for myself.
i could wite a couple of articles regarding the cuban scene. History, and its leagues, mainly 3, HSL htl and invitationals, also, info on its main active teams, as well as the elo rankings and the hall of fame players, the ones with most wins etc.
will that work for the contest? its a lot of articles and all of them pretty long, but maybe its of no importance to the comunity

if so then sign me in please
First of all, we are interested in community information of all sorts - so don't be hesitant to write an article about it.
Second, for the participation in this contest, you would have to pick one of those articles to be your entry.
Ok, my intention is to make the entire thing anyways, but since im on law school and on final tests im really busy (i have penal tomorrow) so i havent been able to write anything, thats a lot of times and effort, my intentions are on writing this pages, dont matter if there is contest or not, but the contest would be an incentive and DUDE A HWASEUNG SHIRT WTF?!?!?!? so now i think i will make the entry and study less, damn you teamliquid :
1-General (history of the scene, tournamntes etc) 2- Leagues: a-HSL b-HTL c-Invitational d-race tourney (i suppose each will have their own page) 3- teams (active teams, captains, achievements and some backround history) 4- Elo ranking (i guess some technical information on how it works etc) 5- ADEC (The organization behind all the events, legal status etc)
And some optional pages regarding some more info: 1- BIt (its a bulleting refering all important stuff in cuban starcraft) 2- Important players (That is, the hall of fame players, a little info on them perhaps) 3- Cuban play level/style (diferences and similarities with international styles, and cuban actual sc level) 4- Showmatches (there arent any, but im working on that so it would be a cool liquipedia page)
Thats the main idea, but what you are saying is that i have to select only one of those for the contest? i thought since all of them were on the same categories then would be counted as one.
Give me a day and i will tell you which ill use for the contest, you cant sign me in until then huh?
I will finish up the Portal:BGH but not because of the contest, but because I'm cool like that!
Seriously though, I will not partake in this contest because I'm not sure when will I finish it. PS. Sorry Pholon for still not replying to your last PM, but as soon as my exams finish, I'll get right on that (soon)!
On June 18 2010 00:31 oo_xerox wrote: Give me a day and i will tell you which ill use for the contest, you cant sign me in until then huh?
The rule is basically in place to prevent work being done twice. With your fairly "exotic" topic, it's fine if you just say you will write one of them.
holy shit working in wiki is hard and tedious, i made the page but i have no fucking idea on hot to make links to other pages work, also, im making the HSL which is the one for the contest and i dont know if i placed it in the right place, or if it should be an article or a page, dude i need some help

Feel free to PM me or any other liquipedia staff if you still need help. Or log onto our IRC channel #Liquipedia and we would be glad to give you a hand.
Pholon Cannon you aren't answering IRC. Do you guys have preference on types of articles you want work done on? Can I incorporate previous work into my entry, and take more then a single page? Ala Raven + all spells?

Incorporating previous work is of course possible, but what mainly counts for the context is newly produced material. If you were writing an article on the Raven, it would be stupid to ignore the content of the Seeker Missile page, but it would not be original content produced for the contest.
err... did he forget to post where/how he is gonna announce the winner? or will he contact the winner directly, without letting the other participants know who won? T.T
On June 21 2010 07:48 youlijp wrote: err... did he forget to post where/how he is gonna announce the winner? or will he contact the winner directly, without letting the other participants know who won? T.T
We will announce the final score in public and of course contact the winner about the shipping details.
Because KNyTTyM has not made any changes to the 2gate vs zerg, and because I was the writer of the current version of that page, I would like to submit my version into the contest.
2. You must announce in this thread, what article you will be working on. 3. Do not edit the article itself, but prepare an updated version on your user page.
So to reiterate: - You need to pick one article as the contest entry. - You need to prepare it in your userspace to make sure it's "your" article.
Only in middle-earth, there could be more than one. For us there's only one: Pioneer of Starcraft. Progamer in Korea. Founder of Teamliquid. Pioneer of Starcraft II. He's the man behind it all and he'll judge the overall quality and specifically the strategy content.
