I think he might have randomed during that pgl actually. although I'm definitely not certain, I just have this lingering memory of him saying something like that.

I know because when I bought the wingman gaming mouse with his picture on the back, I had to find out what kind of guy this was Then he was mad on blizzard for making a new patch since he had proved that sc was balanced when he won the tourney with random.

Its cool to see people still remember your name so many years after you've stopped playing. Well, just wanted to correct a few things in here, since some of it is right, and some is wrong...here goes: I did go to Korea in 1999 to compete in the Sports Seoul Tournament for first place price of $26k. Logitech paid for the trip and all expenses though. I had a blast there hanging out with the likes of: Soso, Xds~grrrr (we actually slept in the same bed together in some prostitute love motel, but thats another story and I assure you I'm not gay), Everlast, Hone (our translator from australia), and met all the big name Korean players while I was there. I didn't fair so well in the tourney, as they made us play maps we'd never seen before, and the Koreans had (I'm sure of it), so I got 6-pooled and micro'd to death by his lings while I was still out looking for his base. Finished in top 16. I didn't quit SC after a year. I played SC from its release until about 2000 competitively (roughly 2 1/2 years). Even after I drifted out of the competitive scene, I continued to play SC for fun with my bro's and close friends for another 2-3 years. My name on bnet from time to time was SSC-Paperboyee and for a brief time Bangl^Ke (when i was pretending to be korean) I did win the 1998 PGL, and got Logitech endorsement deal on their Wingman Gaming Mouse. Thats the only major big money tournament I won. I never paid Soso to train me. Soso and I were very good friends, and are still very good friends today. He is mainly a professional hold'em player these days and is finishing college. Him and I first met way back in the Warcraft 2 days, and then started playing in the same local tournaments. I was a Kali player and used to play in the NWL (national warcraft league). I was in that bnet vs kali tournament a LONG time ago. I was in the "IN Clan" for a while, which is why my email still to this day is in_gad@yahoo.com. Oh well, some things never die. I only played random, but was best known for my protoss play, which is what I felt was my best race. However, I won the final match of PGL with zerg. Later on, I think I became much better at zerg than any other race. I did program for Case's Ladder for about 5 years, and built their tourney system they still use today. I didn't serve a mormon mission, although I am mormon. The main reason I stopped playing was because I realized I could never stay comeptitive at a game where 15-18 year old kids were playing all day long, and I was working full time and going to college. Other things just became higher priorities and I realized that although there was $ in starcraft, it was not enough money to keep me interested in devoting my entire life to it. Hope everyone is still enjoying SC these days. Just in case anyone wonders what happens to SC players when they go out to pasture, I am now a software engineer and do web development for a mortgage company. I also do a lot of side projects to stay busy. I'm married and we just had our first baby a month ago! Life has been treating this old timer well! Gadianton aka D23-Gad aka SSC-Paperboyee

It's in here somewhere... http://www.livestream.com/chesscomlive/video?clipId=pla_6b6d7f60-771c-41e5-a255-32931b392179 Unfortunately I don't have enough time/motivation to play through the entire video to find where he mentions Jay's SC past. At the beginning of the video, he does discuss how Chess.com got formed, and how they met. There's also this article with pictures of him (albeit tiny ones) to compare: http://synworld.t0.or.at/level2/gaming_reader/professionalgaming/severson.htm I worked at chess.com for a small stint and got to meet him. He's a pretty quiet guy. If you're willing to watch the entire video I promise it's in there somewhere
