KT Rolster's manager, Lee Ji Hoon, thanked the fans who wished a healthy recovery to Violet (KT).
On the 27th, Manager Lee Ji Hoon, after alerting the media that the team's main Protoss, Woo Jung Ho (Violet), had been diagnosed with acute leukemia and was in the emergency room, wrote on the DCinside KT Rolster gallery, who was busy collecting Proofs of Blood Donation. (T/N: I haven't donated blood in Korea myself, but as far as I know, having a proof of blood donation gives you a free donation, the amount of "free" blood being up to the amount that you donated yourself. Apparently it's not binding to the actual person that donated.)
Letter from Lee Ji Hoon
Hello, this is Lee Ji Hoon from KT Rolster. First, for all those who are keeping Violet on their minds, I deeply thank you in place of KT Rolster and Violet himself.
To be honest... after the STX game, Violet was planned to be first up in the Woongjin game too. But after the STX game, his skin wasn't in the best condition, so we got his blood checked at the dermatologist.. We got signs that were suggesting leukemia so we got his bone marrow checked ASAP. Obviously, the role of the lead-off player for the Woongjin game was replaced by Stats. Even then, we and the players were thinking that it was probably a mistake.. and that if the bone marrow results came out, that everything would be okay. On the day of the actual bone marrow test, because we had a game, someone from the office and Suny went with Violet. They said the results would come out this morning, so the person from the office and I accompanied him. We really had a positive mind, thinking that nothing would be wrong.. but the result turned out to be acute leukemia. I felt my eyes going black.. How would Violet feel? There are many different types of leukemia, but for now, it seems lymph-related. The precise disease name and the method for curing it will come out in the next 3-4 days.
Right now, there aren't any hospital rooms in which he can stay in, so he is being treated in the emergency room. All the players and their parents are staying by his side so hopefully he won't be lonely ^^ Violet is always so bright and positive, so I'm sure that he will be able to handle any type of treatment, and we'll help him as much as we can by his side. I was so proud of my players... as soon as Violet was diagnosed, they all went to Kang-nam and gave blood. It really made me warm and fuzzy inside... I really feel like a lucky person to be working together with these amazing kids ^^ Violet's still fine. As usual, messing around, laughing, chatting a lot... beating up his teammates and cursing (-_-) Even though when the chemotherapy starts and he has to go through different types of treatments, I'm sure he'll suffer... On that note, the reason why we told the media immediately... is that rather than letting them know when he is having a hard time, we felt that it would be best to let everyone know when he's still doing okay and the news wouldn't hit them as hard. A lot more people than we expected are behind Violet and supporting him and worrying about him, so as his Manager, I feel infinite gratitude and I'm touched beyond expression..
Jung Ho is definitely going to be cured 100%.. and we'll have him return as KT Rolster's "Bread" Toss. (T/N: Bread = Shik Bbang = Korean for the F-word. He was caught cursing on camera after losing to M18M) We ask for your continued support. I know a lot of people are going to be curious.. so I'll let everyone know whenever we hear of any developments during the treatments. Thanks for reading this so late at night, and take care of your own health too, because it's cold outside. Thank you.

apparently violet has been diagnosed with leukemia and he just found out

Thank you very much for the translation. When I read the end in the original Korean, I felt really relieved that Violet seems just fine, especially with the "팀원들 패고 욕하고 ^^;" statement, ahahah~
I really support the KT coach's decision to let the media know immediately of this, because suddenly being hit with news of Violet suffering through chemotherapy would have definitely been worse than hearing how happy he is and laughing before undergoing treatment.
It seems that Violet will have a good chance of recovery, so I hope that he will be fully cured. This gives us all more of a motivation to stay optimistic and hope for the best for Violet. "Woo Shik Bbang" fighting! ^^

Oh wow, that must be tough for the team- I hope they don't take his loss to badly. :/
Get better soon!

Cheering for KT to win SWL now :D

The Internet can be a pretty lousy tool to communicate with others sometimes. That's why I think that the "^^"'s are fine. Emoticons/smileys are a unique way to let your feelings be shown more clearly online, and the KT coach is clearly trying to reassure everyone that everything is fine and encouraging everyone to stay optimistic, whether you're assured by the emoticons or not. Koreans tend to use emoticons heavily, so it's almost second nature for them to throw in a smiley here and there to convey their feelings. No need to get worked up about the "^^"'s.

Didn't Violet occasionally post on or read Team Liquid a while back? I think I remember him mentioning Team Liquid once, and giving us an interview or something. We should make him a "get-well-soon" card from Team Liquid!

Nobody knows how his prognosis will be several weeks/months into the treatment.

At least the Coach is staying positive! I think cancer is as much about the specific treatment as also being motivated to battle and live through it. Anyone who hasn't done so yet, check out the Get-Well card thread and leave Violet something positive!
|
It will be a long road. My friend was diagnosed with brain cancer when we were 17. We hung out at the hospital like the team are and this gave him strength I hope. He delayed university by three/four years because the chemo was so intense and he felt so tired, but he is going to graduate soon. With some luck, our Violet will be the same.

Thank you for the translation.

He needs to know that the whole TL is behind him.

Good thing Koreans are so anal about their skin health so that they could find the problem
Seriously, though, this is really heavy stuff for a 22-year-old to have to go through I wish him all the best and as speedy a recovery as possible.

O_O
I sure as hell didn't expect that when I opened this thread. Get well soon Violet!
|
He's gonna be alright if they give him some God Young Ho's blood. Seriously, that was a nice letter from the coach, and I'm happy that they're optimistic about Violet's treatment. Once again, get better soon Violet !

yay, glad violet is cheerful and will be cured ^^
:3 @ all the teammates and everything giving blood and rushing to his side

3-killing is a tough job, Violet's put too much practice into his game.

It's unfortunate, but you don't recover from leukemia. Don't know where you got your info, I personally know people that have beaten it. I'm not sure if it goes completely away or just into remission, but there was a guy in my 6th grade class who had it and he's in good health now, 10 years later.

It's unfortunate, but you don't recover from leukemia. First guy who comes to mind is John Lester. Had lymphoma as a young mediocre pitcher, came back as one of the best pitchers in the league (and threw much harder than he had ever done so before).
Maybe that's a cherrypicked example, but it seems to my perception (that is, I have no truly informed idea) that a lot of forms of leukemia can be treated fairly well if caught early these days.
|
That sucks, I always liked Violet. I hope he comes back and wins a starleague, for him and for esports

korea still has problems with finding hospitals that cure certain diseases or perform surgeries? man i hope Violet gets better soon.

Just to clarify things.. bread = shik bang is not f-word for korean.
|
I'm very sad to see this happen but the support he has is great- I'm sure he'll be fine.
|
Get well get well soon!! Violet !!!!!

Everyone in KT donated blood, wow. I'm terribly afraid of needles, huge HUGE props for the ENTIRE team to do it.
Glad to see that everyone is supporting him regardless of whichever team they're supporting, and if you haven't done so yet send him a message in NeverGG's Violet thread ^^

I don't know or really think that this piece of news deserves a thread of its own, so I'll just post it here.
Lolz Sashin Toss Hwaseung OZ is organizing a plan for their team to go donate blood for the sake of Violet. They will go donate blood the day right after Lunar New Year's holidays are over. Even though Hwaseung OZ and KT are different teams, they have a deep friendship with each other and Hwaseung OZ wishes to help both Violet and KT out.
News of Violet's diagnosis has sparked a movement of all eSports fans to try to help out as much as possible, including a movement to donate blood for good cause.
Hwaseung OZ's ace player Jaedong said, "When we heard the news that Violet had acute leukemia, we were shocked. Violet hyung has always looked so healthy and happy as usual, so I wish for him to get better as soon as possible. Although donating blood is just a small action, we want to help out as much as we can."
Heartwarming news. It's good to see that all of eSports wishes to help Violet out, including us overseas fans! Who knew that something good would come out from this terrible tragedy.

Here is another piece of heartwarming news for everyone:
"KT Rolster's players donating blood for the sake of Violet"◇ KT Rolster's coach H.O.T-Forever uploaded a picture of him donating blood on his Twitter KT Rolster has voluntarily donated blood for the sake of their player Violet.
When KT Rolster's players heard the news that their fellow player Violet was diagnosed with acute lymph node leukemia on the 27th, they immediately volunteered to go donate blood for his cause. Reach, HoeJJa, Action, and Tempest visited the blood donation center on the 27th and received their proof of blood donation certificates, and on the 28th, coaches H.O.T-Forever and Hery along with the rest of the players who couldn't donate blood yesterday went to go donate blood.
Coach H.O.T-Forever said, "After confirming that Violet had acute leukemia, in order to gather the players who didn't have proof of blood donations, we found a blood donation center for them," and, "If all the fans who want Violet to recover also help out, that would be a huge help to Violet himself".

Looks like Violet got Mantoss blood. He should be fine now.
Edit: Lolz, Antoine above ninja'd me! Yes, it's great to see that everyone is trying to help Violet out, including us here on Team Liquid! Violet will be so overwhelmed to see that even his overseas fans care about him. ^^
|
Heartwarming news indeed.
Go Violet!
|
Does he have ALL or AML? I hope he has a quick recovery as well.
Also can someone thats knowledgeable tell me why exactly are they giving him blood? Leukemia = too much wbc right?
|
Hope violet stays strong and cheerful to fight his illness. Here's To wishing him a speedy recovery and joining back the kt team in no time!
|
So sad... Violet is one of my favourite players. I hope he will overcome disease and come back strong!
|
Honestly, I feel absolutely horrible for violet about this. I know his coming out as a player was in early 09 but he was really starting to play way better recently, making deep berths in tournaments and the recent 3 kills and such. He's been one of my progamer heroes ever since his cinderella story of being the worst player in pro BW to become one of the more inspired gamers I've ever seen. I eagerly await his return, KT will NOT be the same without Violet.
|
Great showing by the community to come around Violet and help. And with Reach donating blood this should be a good omen.
