With Flash's wrist injury, there is speculation about the longevity of his career as a progamer.
I pose the following questions not to make light of the situation, but to hopefully make people realize Flash’s value in BW. Because the truth is, people very seldom appreciate something until it’s gone.
What will happen should Flash retire?
For one, we might be treated to never-ending zvz finals. Remember swarm season? Yep, that was when Flash was on a huge slump. Terrans couldn’t eliminate the Zergs, who kept on dominating Protosses. Oh well, at least this might garner more support for Bisu to finally go deep in a SL. Go Bisu!
On a side note, we’ll be getting never-ending facepalms from Terran players who have no one to cheer for other than Fantasy. In all fairness though, the guy does deliver the goods on occasion. I cheered for him like crazy on his + Show Spoiler + Jaedong would go on to win the diamond mouse. Seriously though, a more realistic scenario is for him to at least break Nada/Flash’s record of 6 SL golds. Or it could be the opposite. I think Flash is keeping Jaedong on the top of his game. The Tyrant has battled every kind of obstacle in his path that a lot of people thought would start his slow descent from his peak. Will the loss of his life-long rival finally be too much for the Dong?
Finally, ACE might actually finish the 11-12PL season above KT (this is actually pretty awesome lol).
What will you miss when Flash is gone?
I'll miss Flash's iconic twitching and his enigmatic ruler. I'll miss the Pocari sweat. NO ONE can chug it the same way as Flash. I'll miss the cyborg references. I'll miss the Domination. I'll miss the honest & outspoken interviews with the occasional dash of cockiness. I’ll miss seeing the highest possible level of Terran play on live stream.
What will you NOT miss when Flash is gone?
The hate that Flash somehow inspires.
Please post your own thoughts! It doesn't even have to be a response to the above questions. My hope is that no matter what happens to Flash’s career as a player, this thread will lessen the hate and bring more love to Lee Young Ho as a person.
Flash Fighting!
Edit: Just to further clarify, this thread was never meant to assume that Flash is going to retire any time soon. As I said, I would want TLers to post something nice about Flash regardless of what happens to his career as a player. As the title says, it's simply an appreciation thread. Someone doesn't need to be close to retiring to be appreciated.
To elborate more -- yes, I was hoping that the mere idea of him retiring would somehow make people think of what he has brought to the game and encourage them to show the guy some love and support. Other posts/threads of his injury inciting the complete opposite is frankly, quite sad.

I'll miss the last god of Starcraft if he retires.
Overall it would make me incredibly sad to see Flash retire. I looked up to him as an idol in BW, and if he retired blahh, i dont even wanna think about it

just another bump in jaedong's road
but in seriousness, it would be the end of the JvF era... and it would suck. the outcome would either be jaedong winning everything or getting knocked out in ZvZs...
for some reason bisu and jaedong never seem to meet

I would miss LeeSangRok, easily the best rivaly of modern BW and one of the best of all time, the paradigm shifts in match-ups (e.g. double armory build), the cockiness ("what? other champions?") and even the surprising upsets (every flash loss is an upset) and cry myself to sleep if Flash were to retire.

I think the treatment will be successful, he is in the best hands in that country. He may have a rocky 2 weeks or month of games ahead of him but I think he will get back to playing his normal phenomenal, wtf-nerf-Flash games after. Flash will be here for a long while winning titles...lets just hope the rest of TBLS will stand up to its hype
|
Let's just hope the treatment will work and he will own the BW scene like we have all grown used to. GOD YOUNGHO HWAITING
I would miss the last Bonjwa, the JvF era, the Ultimate Terran mean machine and above all, I would miss him for his play, his intervie3ws and him being my idol.

I would miss everything of FlaSh. His awesomeness, turtleness, the ability to somehow claw back after being in a hole the entire match... I hope FlaSh gets better and get the platinum mouse/badge. YOUNG HO HWAITING!

Can anyone recommend a good flash vod? Preferably fpvod?

I will miss the Terran that brought fear to the eyes of their opponents and let the Jaedong era being again :D.
|
Jaedong's strongest MU is now ZvT, JvZ doesn't seem to be so impressive anymore, doubt this will change much for him as far as going deep in SL is concerned.
ALTHOUGH, the death of Flash might allow him to change his focus a bit.

I'll miss just about everything about Flash cause I'm deeply in love with him(no gayness yo!)
The only positive side of a potential retirement would be that Flash would very probably be considered the greatest of all time period. He absolutely demolished Jaedong when it counted and matched NaDa's record at the age of 18(!!!!) amongst breaking and setting various other incredible records.
It would suck for Jaedong though. No matter how many titles he'd win people would always say "yeah, cuz Flash wasn't around anymore" and he'd basically never be able to gain the upper hand in their rivalry ever again. It's hard enough as it is with JD having a clearly "weak" matchup atm. Furthermore there's Bisu. If he gets his shit together in individual leagues he'd probably be the favorite over Jaedong in a BoX.
And now enough with the woulds and coulds. God Young Ho will recover, win many more titles and leave a trail of ash in his wake!
All hail the God Child!
+ Show Spoiler +In all seriousness, get well soon Flash! <3 <3 <3 I'm worried about you... =(

If he retires, I'll miss my life. + Show Spoiler +But he'll be fine, as well as Violet . KT Fighting!!! Lee Young Ho Fighting!!!

We will lose the greatest player to have ever graced BW with his time.
Seriously though, it wouldn't hurt the scene as much as we might initially think. There are so many other amazing players. of course we could speculate that if Flash had stayed he might have even reached loftier heights (his 2010 was near-perfect, really, but not quite so). I remember when effort first left, he was probably the top 3 player in the world although slumping just a little bit. It actually allowed Hydra his time to shine and establish his potential as another great player.
I don't think Flash will really retire, but there is a chance he will never be as good as he once was. I keep hoping this isn't the case and the treatment he's getting will eventually cure him of his problems enough that he'll be back to Ultimate Weapon mode in less than a year.

You'd have to give a particular theme (i.e. comeback, super macro, sick timing) and/or matchup preference so someone can make a good recommendation. Unfortunately, I don't think there are any Flash FPVODs available.

I will miss my will to live. Flash is my hero. He can't go this way.

Most memorable games for me
TVT: Flash v Fantasy Bigfile MSL 1 (the most insane comeback I've seen - more tense than vs FBH on Medusa)
TVP: Flash v Bisu Bacchus OSL 3
TVZ: Flash v Effort Korea Air OSL1 2 (maphax)

I don't want to speculate about flash retiring. He will either retire, or be out of the running for 6 months. After that he may or may not dominate like he used to do, time will tell.
|
I'm a big Flash fan and I think he should just retire while on top so that he doesn't aggravate his injury. You can only be successful in e-sports for so long and this is a good time to do something else (go to college, etc) while he is still young.

For one, we might be treated to never-ending zvz finals Yep. It always bothers me, that we have no real T power besides the Flash. Top 10 ELO clearly shows the lack of consistent and strong T.
Fanta can be good, but he is like anti-Bisu: good in SL and inconstant in PL. Baby - forever a promising prodigy Sea - though he is quite good overall, can't deliver in SL, Light - have tendency to die to any descent P =( Mind - can be bad, can be good, but barely can stands vs TBLS and modern Z. Leta & Really & FBH - it would be nice to have them shine again, but uhh, dreams are still only dreams.
And with current stage development we don't have many new players to light the scene: Turn - At the beginning of the season shows some interesting play, but then failed. Reality - I put my hopes on this guy, he needs a bit more experience to mature, and mb we wil the raise of the next start. Bogus - good season for him, but I just dont feel like he can push further.

I don't really pay much attention to BW but FlaSh has always been one of my favorite players. Hope he gets better and doesn't have to retire. YOUNG HO HWATING!
