Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it. |

Korean eSports/BW fans/netizens are shocked and OUTRAGED at the news, and Korean interest in BW is definitely not dwindling at all. In fact, more interest may be generated by the news happening right now. It is definitely not generally accepted that BW is going to die out soon amongst Korean eSports fans, and almost every single Korean eSports fan out there is not willing to accept it if it happens. BW is still very popular in Korea today and gets many viewers for live broadcasts on TV. If the moronic MBC execs do decide to proceed with this, the Korean govt needs to step imo. It's going to be very damaging to esports (not just BW) if the channel completely dissolves. I don't really care if the brand name "MBCGame" doesn't exist any longer, so long as the channel/team survives in some manner.
Isn't e-sport a national sport for Korea? If it still is, then the Gov will step in.

Fuck THIS
What a shitty piece of news to read right before I head to bed. Literally just punched the desk in frustration. MSL/OSL in my mind always existed as a pair, and it'll feel so weird with just one, and not the other. Bah, godamn, hopefully its not true, but if it does end up going through, its the end of a godamn era. Jesus. Its just not right.

What is going on what the hell music channel this no why TIME DOES NOT MOVE FORWARD IT MUST LOOP FOREVER. This is what it feels like to age NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The more I think about this, the less sense it makes for them to consider such a move. What was the point of fighting off Blizzard, if they only do one or two more Starleagues after that?! That whole lawsuit only makes sense if they had long-term plans...

KBSGame, how does this sound? lol

Sad day indeed. Can't say BW didn't have a good run. And it's still going on OGN so it's not over yet, but it still sucks ass.

Still doesn't make sense, the chances of them getting kpop viewers are going to be low, theyl have to match with the other fcking channels such as Mnet yeah, this doesnt even make sense...
why would they even do this kind of move, when they were a really successful channel, not even in BW but also in Tekken...

to a fucking music channel, and they have fucking no chance of getting ratings on a music channel.
err.... sorry, but in korea teenage girls watch way more tv than teenage boys in korea. they're going to get a significant ratings boost by changing to a music channel.
anyway, this isn't really about ratings, as spica said.

I know that Broodwar has to make way for Starcraft 2 eventually but it still hurts. They don't owe SC2 shit. Watch it man. I'm as disappointed and as hurt as you are. No reason to go hate on your fellow Starcraft brother, especially not right now with all this happening. The only way we can keep Broodwar alive for as long as possible is if we stick together.
Those guys aren't our Starcraft brothers, they're like the evil step brothers showing up at Granny Brood War's funeral demanding part of the inheritence. There are SC2 fans that can read and some who don't.

fuck kpop. delete it from your comp. boycott it.

it's literally not a "national sport" in the sense of a "national anthem" or "national flower" or "national animal." the govt won't care...

OK, the passion among converted followers remains high, as expected in those who understand the depth and beauty of this wonderful game. How about recruiting new followers? Are the kids still playing BW?

On July 27 2011 18:05 BLinD-RawR wrote:now the question in my mind is,will anibox take up BW? That would be WEIRD, having GSL and...ASL? on the same channel. It's certainly possible, though. I was more of an OSL guy (because nukethestars was :3) I feel like I missed out now, in a way I haven't really for BW in a long time. Can we have a "MSL memories" thread, with VODs/clips of all the best MSL moments? That's probably the best way to mark the occasion. When's the last MSL game? It should take over the site when it happens, the way the TSL3 promos did back when that was happening. Seeing as MSL beats the shit out of GSL in viewer figures, it wouldn't be much of a stretch though. Oh, of course. I'm sure Anibox would want the rights. It would just be weird. (Not as weird as GOM doing it, though, even though they've done it before). I'm pretty sure someone will take it up, though. There's still tons of money in BW. Who would the best people be to do it? I know BW fans don't like GOM a lot, but they're really good at getting foreigners to watch GSLs, and I think getting more foreigners to watch BW and support it is a fairly rich and undervalued revenue mine. The Chinese?
Sure. I was thinking more Sweden or the West Coast of the US, which have "e-sports" scenes, but not BW specifically. Fly TLBS down to Anaheim for some show matches, and hand out fliers with a website where people can watch BW games with English commentary, ad-supported.
League of Legends at Dreamhack this year got something like 200,000 viewers, just because it had good advertising (link to stream in the game client). I'm going to avoid the BW/SC2 thing because it's touchy, but I'm pretty sure BW can beat fucking LoL if the foreign BW community puts enough oomph into it, and starts proselytizing a bit more, and if the BW scene reaches out a bit more.
Yeah, it'll take a few years to pay off, but doomsayers aside, BW isn't going to up and die in the near future.

THIS IS TERRIBLE. It's like almost half of BW just up and died
It has been a great run. I hope OGN carries on the torch.
